In anticipation of the event that will bring a substantial amount of attention to the Insurgency franchise, NWI has released a new free DLC for the grit shooter. Titled Hunt, the content update features the thrilling new Hunt cooperative game mode, where players stealthily conduct night raids on Insurgent hideouts.

“We see Insurgency as a constant work in progress. Our utilization of ‘early access’ and our subsequent commitment to releasing free DLC demonstrates this. Since release, we have added five new maps to the game and several new weapons and optics,” recalls Jeremy Blum, Founder and Game Director at NWI.

“In conjunction with these substantial content additions we have worked very closely with our community to refine gameplay mechanics and address legitimate concerns. We are excited to release our stats framework today, which is now collecting data. We will soon unleash our ranking and tier systems to our community, which is something they have been requesting for quite a long time. It is currently in the final stages of testing before release.”

Insurgency uses a rank system that allows players to level up as they gain points in the game, which can be earned most effectively by playing the objective and working with your team. In addition to receiving a rank, players will also get put into one of three different tiers depending on their percentile amongst all Insurgency players around the globe. The top 33% of players are in the ‘Warlord’ (Gold) tier, the middle 33% in the ‘Veteran’ (Silver) tier, and the lower 33% in the ‘Grunt’ (Bronze) tier.

“The addition of stats and ranking will be the first step in bolstering our support for the community over the longer term. We know how much potential we have as a competitive game and are solidifying that foundation one step at a time,” explained Andrew Spearin, Insurgency’s Creative Director.

“Although the game may be considered a ‘finished’ product, we are constantly evolving our vision and looking forward to growing in the years to come. We have ‘next-gen’ and console ambitions. Whether or not we stay on the same engine, we will see, but one thing we know is this is just the beginning,” Blum disclosed.

The Hunt content update released today also includes two new multiplayer maps, six new cooperative maps, updated existing maps, underbarrel grenade & smoke launchers, a new weapon optic, gameplay improvements, server optimizations and much more.

Overview of Hunt content update features:
  • New Hunt game mode (cooperative) where you must eliminate all enemies and caches in the area. This game mode requires extreme stealth and coordination as you only have one life.
  • New statistic tracking framework.
  • New Main Menu with Development News and Steam Friends List.
  • New multiplayer maps: Panj and Uprising
  • New cooperative maps: District (Hunt), Heights (Hunt), Ministry (Hunt), Panj (Hunt), Uprising (Hunt) and Contact (Hunt).
  • Updated multiplayer map: Market.
  • Added underbarrel grenade and smoke launchers: M-203 for Security and GP-25 for Insurgents.
  • Added non-zoom red dot optic for Security team.

Insurgency - Argyll

The most significant update to Insurgency since “Molotov Spring” is now available for all players. “Hunt” sees the return of the cooperative game mode of the same name - a challenging one-life mode where you will need to eliminate all enemy while locating and destroying a weapons cache. Supported maps include District, Ministry, and Heights, all with darker lighting and atmosphere to heighten the suspense.

A brand new map - Panj - is also introduced to the game. Inspired by the rural southern provinces of Afghanistan, this map is designed from the ground up to support a balanced and open layout for Skirmish, Firefight, Occupy, and Push modes.

Our most popular game mode Push also has a new twist. If the attackers successfully secure Objective Charlie, they have an opportunity to continue their momentum and destroy the enemy weapons cache. The defenders must make a very intense last stand with only one life.

A new grenade launcher is also implemented for both teams. Demolitions class for Security have access to an M203 with the M16, while Insurgent Striker and Sapper classes have the GP25 for the AKMS. Both high explosive and smoke rounds are available for these weapons that introduce a new threat and dynamic to the game. Additional classes have access to the grenade launchers for using smoke only.

Other weapon changes include: the addition of a 1x Aimpoint sight for Security; M14 EBR has a bipod upgrade; a weight limit that players can’t exceed when choosing supply; and balancing of supply point cost for some kit items.

We’ve also provided various tweaks, bug fixes, and performance optimizations. Today’s release is phase one of the update, and another update will be released in two days with even more content and features.

  • Fixed a bug with the 4x scope on the M1A1 not shooting on target.
  • Fixed a bug with Ministry where you were forced to jump into the entrance instead of simply being able to walk in.
  • Updated the physic model on the rocks in Peak to reduce instances of getting stuck and getting inside of rocks.

  • Optimized particle effects for molotov cocktails and incendiary grenades for improved client-side performance.
