Those are the most disturbing gaming boobies I've seen in a while.

Why can’t we all just learn to get along? With MMO TERA finally having a release date set for May this year, and the pre-release hype building up, NCsoft have leapt in and thrown a court at the proceedings. As MMO Culture reports, a dispute over the ownership of software and artwork means that the release could be scuppered as it sinks in the mire of a legal bog. I’ve taken a look at the legal filing, and explained the details of the claims.

I’ve been playing the oddly quietly-released latest third person action’n’ urban psychopathy game from Running With Scissors, Postal III. Needless to say, I wish I hadn’t. >

I have a large tumbler full of Scotch (I know, I know, you’re supposed to use a tulip-shaped glass for the full effect, but the only Scottish person currently writing for RPS is Craig and he says “it offends me” of whisky, so I think I’m safe). I have a vaguely misanthropic attitude towards life, the universe and everything. I have a deep distrust of conventional employment. I have a low attention span. Oh look, there’s a magpie outside. It’s all black and white and… oh yes. And I have a copy of Postal III installed on my personal computer. I AM READY.

*INEVITABLE COMPARISON TO PORTAL*

Now that’s out of the way, let’s all drool over Kim Swift’s upcoming Quantum Conundrum, which looks like what a computer game would look like if Pixar made computer games. That’s just a fact rather than a wild, hastily decided upon and ill-conceived opinion based on eight minutes of footage shown at CES 2012 and narrated by Kim. Now that I mention it, I did just watch just such a video and decided that anyone who didn’t have a massive grin on their face for at least half of it was probably a pod person. Now, smile. I expect to see the rictus grin of a terrified corpse when I observe you all through my periscope momentarily.

Indie platformer A Walk In The Dark has a cat rescuing a lost little girl in a dark, fantasy world; the quarter of Dexter that John owns once lost a fight with his own feet (my bit was obviously the winner there). I see now why they had to place the game in a gothic forest: as a cat owner of four years, I wouldn’t believe the skills he shows off in the trailer below. (more…)

Shiny colours!

Blimey, it’s been a while since we saw anything of Warface. The last time we posted about Crytek’s free-to-play online shooter was in December 2010 when they released some footage. In fact, it’s been so long that some sites have only just noticed it exists. What has instead happened is Crytek have added three new screenshots to their site, although goodness knows when, and as you might imagine, they look very pretty.

I once met a man who claimed to be a mercenary, but he was about 87 years old, very drunk and may actually have been pleading to any god who would listen for clemency.

When it was revealed that Jagged Alliance: Back In Action would use a ‘plan & go’ pausable action system rather than the turn-based trappings of yore, I expected the outcry to be loud and shrill. Mine was, until I played the game at which point I was forced to acknowledge that actual hands-on experience is more useful than spurious supposition. Who would have thought? I found something new to whine about when I saw the necessarily clear evidence that the game contains no fog of war. Then I thought it might be added for release. I was wrong, buried beneath crossed wires. Some people seem as unconcerned about the missing fog as they were about the missing turns, so perhaps this gameplay video will help everyone> to have contrary thoughts.

I’m so tired this morning that if horseman Death came charged toward me, I’d limply reach out a hand to touch his scythe and embrace the sweet, sweet sleep that awaits. But fortunately he’s fictional, and I’ll wake up soon. He is, however, to feature in Darksiders II, and if you needed more proof than my word, there are screenshots of said game below. They’re new, and they’ve got big, cross monsters in them.

Some shitty joke about being in the twilight of its life.

Terraria, the absolutely superb Minecraft-meets-side-scrolling-platformer, is to get a retail release. For, er, £20. The digital version costs £6 at most, regularly dropping to amazing bargain prices during various sales, and is unquestionably amazing value. But £20 for an “Exclusive Collectors Edition” when it’s a year old, in a box, in a shop? That seems a little strange.

Load the release cannon and fire vaguely in that direction!

Hello! I bring good news. The release date aiming cone for Bohemia Interactive’s sci-fi action strategy game Carrier Command: Gaea Mission has narrowed. The bad news is it’s only as specific as Q2 2012. Now I’ve been doing this job since 2000, and not once have I ever looked up what release date quarters mean. This chart did not help. So instead of explaining it further, I’ll have to distract you with some new screenshots of the game below.
