Warhammer 40,000: Armageddon

There have been 40,000 Warhammer 40,000 video games, but none I'm aware of revolve around the Adeptus Mechanicus.

The Adeptus Mechanicus are a group of humans who really, really love steel, technology and machines. They live on Mars building the Imperium's tech, while maintaining an army of their own. Basically, if Digital Foundry was a Warhammer 40,000 race, it would be The Adeptus Mechanicus.

So we come to Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus, a new game published by Kasedo Games (Rise of Industry) and developed by little-known French studio Bulwark (Crowntakers). There's not much to go on right now, but we do know Mechanicus is a turn-based tactical game set for release on PC, Mac and Linux later this year. I'm hoping for an XCOM-style game, basically. Here are some pre-alpha screenshots:

It seems like there is no shortage of digital PC game deals this week, as Fanatical has launched its 'BundleFest' promotion, offering up brand new bundles each and every day.

At the time of writing, you can pick up bundles of PC games themed around the Batman: Arkham games (though, it is notably lacking Arkham Knight), Indie Legends including GoNNER, Deadlight, Kingdom Rush Frontiers, and even a Starter Bundle full of games put together by Fanatical itself.

Online three-way realm-war game Camelot Unchained finally has a beta date: 4th July. This is the crowdfunded MMO helmed by one of the people - Mark Jacobs - responsible for Dark Age of Camelot, and is very much a spiritual successor to it.

The beta, referred to as Beta 1, will be a closed beta, Jacobs told me. You will either need relevant backer privileges to play, or to buy the game first. However, this is not to be considered an early access release. "That would be abusing what Early Access on Steam is meant to be," he said.

Beta 1 will test a lot of the game's core mechanics - including building, crafting, character and world persistence, and unique classes and racial bonuses - across a variety of events. There will be the more closed arena Saturday Night Sieges as well as the more open-world Contested Islands. There will be small fights and big fights - big being what Camelot Unchained is really going for, with hundreds and possibly thousands of people fighting, and smoothly, at the same time.

Like the Comeback Kid of charity-based digital distributors, Humble is back once again with a brand new bundle full of video games. This time, the bundle in question features a collection of classic game franchises that have risen from the dead.

The genre-spanning Humble 'Classics Return' Bundle features the Kickstarted latest entry in the Broken Sword franchise, the Kickstarted Tex Murphy adventure Tesla Effect, and the, uh, Kickstarted sequel to classic top-down RPG Wasteland 2, among others. It's safe to say a lot of franchises would have stayed long dead if it hadn't have been for crowdfunding, for better or worse.

Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box

Burnout Paradise Remastered does not feature any in-game microtransactions, EA has reassured - despite the game's official store listing saying the opposite.

Fans noticed the phrase "in-game game purchases optional" in Paradise's new store listing last night and feared the worst.

While the Remastered edition features all major DLC, EA made a point of mentioning the game's Time Saver packs were not part of the offering. It is these which fans suspected would be sold as extras.

I'm going to kick this review off with a quick word of warning. Do not, whatever you do, play Sprint Vector right after an all you can eat carvery. Because I played Sprint Vector for the first time after an all you can eat carvery, and it made me feel wonky for the rest of the night.

That's why, before I even get into how the game works, it's well worth pointing out that Sprint Vector is one of the most intensely physical PSVR games I've played to date. If you're not a fan of titles that require you to stand up and get sweaty then it's safe to say this is not the game for you.

The same can also be said to those of you out there with limited VR playspace. Although the setup blurb suggests you can play the game seated, Sprint Vector relies on full upper-body movement in order to work properly. That's all well and good in theory but when I tried to play it in a seated position the controls were so unresponsive it made the game unplayable.

Sonic Mania

Sega's upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie now has a release date: 15th November 2019.

It's a year later than expected - a vague "2018" date was whispered when the Paramount project originally got greenlit, back in February 2016.

But work on the film is now underway, Hollywood Reporter writes. There's a director and writer (no one you'll have heard of), while Deadpool director Tim Miller is executive producing.

Creative Assembly has announced that Total War: Rome 2 will receive a Desert Kingdoms Culture Pack on March 8th, bringing with it four new playable factions. A free Female Leaders update will be made available to all players on the same day.

The Desert Kingdoms expansion follows on from November's Empire Divided DLC - the first major expansion for Total War: Rome 2 since 2014. Desert Kingdoms' headline feature is, of course, it's four new factions: the Kingdoms of Kush, Saba, Nabatea, and Masaesyli - all native to the deserts of Africa and Arabia.

"While culturally similar, each faction boasts unique new unit rosters which offer different military strengths", says Creative Assembly. Each faction features new building chains and technology trees, and comes with its own unique Faction Traits.

Rocket League®

Rocket League will be getting an official DC Super Heroes DLC pack on March 5th, developer Psyonix has announced. It includes two premium Batman-themed Battle-Cars, and a variety of cosmetics inspired by DC Super Heroes.

It's Batmobile all the way as far as the Battle-Cars goes, with the new DLC pack containing two versions of Batman's iconic ride. There's the Dark Knight Rises Tumbler variant, as well as the classic 1989 Batmobile from the Jack Nicholson-starring movie. You can see them both whizzing about the place in the trailer below.

Additionally, the DC Super Heroes DLC pack features 21 super-hero-themed items, which look a little something like this:
