An image detected in an advert for the Video Game Awards has sparked speculation of a Left 4 Dead-related reveal.

The image, which you can see below, contains the message: "Infected? Report it!" In the bottom right hand corner sits "1 of 3" (as noticed by Joystiq).

Clearly, the game it refers to is zombie-related, but what is it?

Reports suggest it's anything from a PlayStation 3 port of Left 4 Dead and/or Left 4 Dead 2, to a Left 4 Dead 3 reveal.

At E3 2010 in June Left 4 Dead developer Valve announced Portal 2 would arrive on PS3 as well as PC and Xbox 360 when it's released next year.

"I've been pretty outspoken in my comments about next gen consoles," boss man Gabe Newell joked during Sony's E3 conference, "so I'd like to thank Sony for their gracious hospitality and not repeatedly punching me in the face."

But, given every game these days has zombies, "Infected" could releate to anything.

Gib Fest and…, You are Glowing, Do you compete?

Gib Fest

M60s and buckets of blood.

For our coop mutation this week we return to everyone’s favorite Gib Fest. Simple, go play.

Realism Versus

We are also “featuring” Realism Versus. This week we added quicker spawns for the infected. If you haven’t played recently, you are missing out on one of the most intense Left 4 Dead 2 competitive experiences. It is like regular Versus but no health kits in the world, no glows on fellow survivors, harder to kill commons and now faster Special Infected spawns (coming soon to the 360).
Give it a try this week, it's what all the cool kids will be playing.

You are glowing

You liked the idea of changing the Survivor’s glow. The breakdown was roughly 50% for, 30% against, 20% no opinion but I just like to vote. So this week we are changing the glow and also incorporating a suggestion from the forums. The glow color will now correspond to the run speed of the Survivors. This should help tanks know who they can catch.

While we were at it, we added a glow to the Witch for the Infected team.
Sometimes poll results can be incorporated quickly into the game, sometimes they take a bit longer – just a warning for past and future polls. Just because we don’t make a change that week doesn’t mean the results are being ignored. Xbox 360 users will see these changes in future title update.

Do you compete?

Have you ever played in an L4D1 or L4D2 tournament? Let us know in this week's in-game poll.

title="Permanent Link to Fan made Left 4 Dead map lets you fight the battle of Helm’s Deep">

A Left 4 Dead mapper has painstakingly recreated the fortress of Helm's Deep from Lord of the Rings in the form of a huge Left 4 Dead survival map, which means you can create Gimli and Legolas' competition to slay the most enemies over the course of the battle, only this time using assault rifles instead of a bow and an axe. If you don't have the Zombie Genocidest achievement for killing 53,595 zombies yet, this map might be a good way to get it.

The three walls of Helm's Deep have been faithfully recreated, meaning you'll have to fall back deeper and deeper into the fortress as the zombies press, much like the defending forces were forced to in Lord of the Rings. The Left 4 Dead Survivors do get a few advantages over their Tolkien counterparts, though, like four mounted machine guns on the outer wall of the fortress. On the other hand: no Gandalf, so they're probably even. You can download the level from Left 4 Dead maps. Here's a video of the new map.
