Castle Story - Box
The long awaited refactoring patch for Castle Story is here!

So, first off, you’ll notice that all the old save games are gone now. This is completely normal, and unfortunately there simply wasn’t anyway we could support older saves in the latest version of the game. But, just in case you wanted to keep playing on those saves, we’ve opened up a beta-branch of Steam called Legacy, which is the pre-refactoring version of the game. This will let you download the latest version of the game that still supports those saves.

To gain access to that branch, simply right-click on Castle Story in your Steam Library, go to ‘properties’, then click on the beta tab and select the Legacy branch, then hit OK. After a short download, you’ll have the pre-refactored version of the game re-installed. You can switch back and forth between them as often as you like.

Beyond all that, what’s changed?

Well, a lot of things actually. We’re still working on the full comprehensive changelog for all of you that want the nitty-gritty details, since it needs to all be translated to just English instead of English and French, and cryptic changes need to be decryptified, but we’ll have that put together soon.

However, let’s go ahead and cover the bigger changes, beyond about a billion lines of refactored code:

  • The game is way more stable overall, no more sudden inexplicable crashes
  • Stockpiles that accept orange crystal (up to 100 bits)
  • Tutorial to help you learn the basics of the game
  • A login system that will link your Castle Story account to your Steam Account
  • A tweak for the AI to make bricktrons fill the fullest stockpile instead of the closest one
  • Multiplayer is much more stable and playable
  • Some game analytics for us developers to assist in debugging the game
