A sequel to Activision's Transformers: War for Cybertron is set for release in 2012.

Confirmation comes from Hasbro, the company that makes the Transformers toys that take up all the space in ASDA.

Hasbro was well chuffed with War for Cybertron, which Eurogamer awarded a solid 6/10.

"This is the most highly-rated, critical success of any game that's had the Hasbro brand yet and we're looking forward to a sequel in 2012," Mark Blecher, SVP and General Manager of Digital Media & Gaming, said (as reported by IGN).

IGN reckons High Moon Studios, creator of the first game, is at the helm. It's a good guess: in June High Moon revealed it was in talks with Activision to produce further games in the Transformers series.

Deeveloper Aaron Archer said at the time he'd like to see a Transformers racing game in the Twisted Metal style. "My job is to listen to fans, Hasbro, gamers about what people want," he said. "I filter by what's achievable and what makes sense for story. I can't say yes or no but as we move forward, we will put what's right for the game in the game."

There's also a Transformers game designed to tie-in with next year's Transformers 3 movie in the works.

It's called Dark of the Moon, and has nothing to do with Pink Floyd.

Completing the Transformers triumvirate is the NetDragon developed Transformers MMO, which will launch in the West at some point in the near future.
