Gratuitous Space Battles - Complete Pack

Show posts for all products, not just Gratuitous Space Battles - Complete Pack
Product Update - Valve
An update for Gratuitous Space Battles has been released. The update will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The major changes include:

  • Major rewrite of tons of areas to reduce memory usage and squash lots of small memory leaks.
  • Tractor beam turrets are no longer drawn when a ship should appear cloaked.
  • Limpet launchers and Plasmas are now fired from the correct position when placed in multiple-hardpoint slots.
  • Fixed a few minor miscalculations that meant ship damage looked (purely visually) like it was being repaired faster than it actually was, especially when cloaked.
  • When you leave the ship design screen, any open module stat comparison windows are now closed.
  • Some playbalance tweaks
  • Imperial fighters with tiny engine glows (also a nomad fighter) now no longer get drawn when the parent ship is docked at a carrier.
  • Added post-battle stats summary popup dialog.

Gratuitous Space Battles: The Nomads is now available on Steam!

Defend your homeworld from The Nomads in the latest expansion pack for Gratuitous Space Battles!

Gratuitous Space Battles and it's DLC - The Tribe, The Order, The Swarm and The Nomads - are now available on the Mac!

Shacknews - Alice O'Connor
If you wish the indie space fleet combat sim Gratuitous Space Battles had a little more structure, point your peepers at the new $6.99 downloadable expansion Galactic Conquest.

Galactic Conquest adds a single-player campaign that'll have you, well, conquering the galaxy. To do that, you'll need to design a fleet to take on all threats then repair and replenish it between engagements. GSB will fill the 52-planet galaxy with enemy fleets designed by other players, while uploading yours to stymie others. Pre-ordering now will net you instant access to the beta version.

Developer Positech Games has yet to reveal when Galactic Conquest will officially launch, though the beta build will probably do you nicely for now, won't it?

Hurrah! Cliffski‘s announced that the Galactic Conquest expansion for Gratuitous Space Battles is now available for purchase, although the expansion isn’t actually out yet and technically the £5 you’re dropping is a pre-order that gets you access to the beta, which may have a bug or three.

Galactic Conquest is a big ol’ update, adding a brand new campaign mode where you battle for planets and gradually build up fleets using captured shipyards and academies. As Jim pointed out, a campaign mode surely makes all those space battles much less gratuitous. Less Gratuitous: Space Battles, that’s what Cliffski should have called it. Full, lengthy features list and video after the jump. (more…)

If there was a significant problem with fleet-management game Gratuitous Space Battles, it was that it was almost too> gratuitous. There were a lot of space battles, with nothing to link or contextualise them. To fix this black hole in the space-time of his creation, Cliff “Positech” Harris has been constructing some DLC, a “massively single-player” non-linear campaign, which is now nearing completion. I had a quick chat with him about this development, which you can read below. (more…)

Wherever I lay my enormous space battleship, is my home.

Cliffski really does have a knack at this. He’s just released his latest bit of Gratuitous Space Battles DLC, introducing the Nomads, a whole new race with ships, weapons and similar. Oldest race in the galaxy, according to the GSB fiction. But the trick is the spin he’s given to this. There’s two editions of the DLC you can buy. One is $5.99, the other is $2.99. There’s no difference between ‘em. It’s simply an experiment, to try and cater for the people who say they can’t afford that amount of money. Look at your life, decide what you can afford, then pay it. He’s also keeping a running tally of the results. Currently, 28 $5.99 editions and 10 $2.99 editions. And if you’ve never played GSB, you can try the demo. Oh – the new trailer follows. (more…)

Product Update - Valve
An update for Gratuitous Space Battles has been released. The update will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The major changes include:

Version 1.47
  • Usability: The battle sounds now work much better in cases where they overload from playing too many identical sounds at once.
  • Usability: Added a new tutorial hint to point out the range overlay in the battle screen.
  • Bug Fix: The supply limits window on the choose battle screen now sizes to show all limits correctly.
  • Bug Fix: When creating a custom challenge, the 'challenge' button is not correctly disabled until some ships have been deployed.
  • Bug Fix: Improved code to prevent 'stacking' of ships on the deployment screen (works more reliably now).
  • Usability: New feature, there are now short strips under each icon on the deployment screen to show the name of the ship to aid selection.
  • Mod Support: Added new 'num_submunitions' (limit 6) and 'flaresize' (default 16) to missile data for modders.
  • Mod Support: Found the bug that prevented modded ships from being larger than 256. No known limit now.
  • Usability: The game now checks that any challenge you are about to fight has not been removed from the database, so you are prevented from running corrupt and deleted challenges.
  • Usability: The buttons that filter ships by size on the deployment screen now remember their settings.
  • Bug Fix: Limpet launchers now record shots fired and hit like other weapons.
  • Bug Fix: Usernames that are too long to display now get sensibly cropped in challenge list.

It's not a 4X game, more of a kind of stratego-tactical web of space-eminence, say experts. There was a problem with the rather clever space-battle fleet manager game Gratuitous Space Battles. It was this: there was no campaign mode. I’ve no idea how you would fix a problem like that, but fortunately one man development army Cliffski has plenty of ideas. One of them is relevant: he’s going to add a campaign mode>. He explains: “The GSB campaign is a singleplayer ‘conquer-the-galaxy’ style game, where you build up vast space fleets and kick interstellar ass. Rather than set, pre-determined fleets to battle against, the game utilises the fleets designed by other GSB players to provide an endless variety of opponent, so you will be pitted against real carbon-based intelligence on every step of your path to galactic dominance.” Read more about this extraordinary move here. It will be paid DLC, price TBC.

Product Update - Valve
Updates to Gratuitous Space Battles have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The major changes include:

version 1.46
  • Bug Fix: Fixed crash bug where assigning fighters to escort fighters, then trying to edit the range on the invalid order caused a crash.
  • Bug Fix: Unlocking now works if you beat the previous mission on hard or expert, you don't specifically have to beat it on normal.
  • Usability: Game now lets you toggle between old and new stats screens after each battle
  • Bug Fix: It's now impossible to put an apostrophe in your username, which was breaking challenges.
  • Bug Fix: It's now not an option to fight your own challenge and rate it yourself.

Who needs backstory? Who needs resource-gathering? Diplomacy is so last year. Take advantage of this Gratuitous Weekend Deal and save 75% off Gratuitous Space Battles and all the Gratuitous DLC.

Gratuitous Space Battles cuts right to the chase of sci-fi strategy games, and deals with large, completely unjustified space battles between huge opposing space fleets.
