Shacknews - Alice O'Connor

Toki Tori has bounced around from platform to platform following its release on Game Boy Color in 2001, hitting WiiWare, PC, Mac, iThings, Android, and Windows Mobile, and coming soon to PlayStation Network. Now, a decade later, creator Two Tribes has announced that it's finally getting a sequel.

Toki Tori 2 will be "a completely new adventure, developed from the ground up for today's players and technology," Two Tribes said in the announcement.

One change coming in with the fresh start is that there will be no weapons or items. Creative director Collin Ginkel explained that, in the original, items lead to certain puzzles which could only be solved with "a unique combination of items to be used in exact orders at the exact positions the designers wanted." With the sequel and without items, he said, puzzles will have more "possibilities."

Toki Tori will initially be released for PC via Steam and Mac in Spring 2012. After that, Two Tribes plans to bring it to "downloadable stores from Apple, Nintendo and more."

If you fancy snagging one of 200 invites to get early access and offer feedback, e-mail Two Tribes. Or you can always follow Toki Tori 2's progress on the development blog.

A sequel to eccentric Game Boy Color/WiiWare/PC platformer Toki Tori launches on Mac and PC in Spring 2012, Dutch developer Two Tribes has announced.

Releases on "downloadable stores from Apple, Nintendo and more" will follow some time thereafter, according to the announcement.

There's not much more to go on right now, other than a development blog and a few bit of concept art which you can check out below.

Capcom published the original on the Game Boy Color way back in 2002, which picked up an 8/10 from a nascent Eurogamer (see our Toki Tori review for details). It was then overhauled for WiiWare and PC in 2008.

Adorable puzzle/platformer Toki Tori is making the trek to PlayStation 3, Playlogic Games and Two Tribes announced today. The revamped version is getting updated visuals to support HD and stereoscopic 3D, a new game mode with newly designed stages, and PlayStation Move support. It's due this holiday season.

Curiously, the press release only mentions the European PlayStation Network, and the site only shows icons for the European PEGI rating system. Shacknews has contacted Playlogic to clarify whether it will come to North America as well. In the game, you play as a chick called Toki Tori, using his arsenal of weapons to collect eggs and solve the puzzle stages.

"Toki Tori will be the first of many quality titles we will release via PlayStation Network and other digital distribution platforms," said Playlogic CEO Rogier Smit in the press release. "We are absolutely thrilled to be able to work with this successful IP and experienced developer. We believe that Toki Tori on PSN is the ultimate version of the game and are proud that we are finally able to introduce Toki Tori game to PlayStation 3 owners across Europe."

This weekend is the last chance to pre-purchase Portal 2. Get your copy now, save 10% and be ready to play the moment it is released.

Help release Portal 2 early: From now until release, play any or all of games in The Potato Sack to expedite the launch of Portal 2. Your efforts will be tracked on the official GLaDOS@home page.

Each game in The Potato Sack has received a massive Portal-themed update, making a collection of 13 hit indie games even better. So why not get a taste of Portal 2 now while you help launch it?

PC Gamer

When we took an overview of the remarkable happenings in the potato sack ARG yesterday, the trail was going cold, and it looked as though things were winding down. For a few hours at least, they were, then it all kicked off again. New updates have added Portal 2 themed levels to many of the games in the potato sack sale. The voice of Glados has started appearing in menu screens and secret messages, and to top it all, Bit.Trip Beat creators, Gaijin, dropped a heavy hint that completing the ARG could cause Portal 2 to be released early.

Adding fuel to that theory, today Portal 2 became available to pre-load through Steam. We've collected videos and screenshots of the new Portal 2 themed levels from potato sack sale below.

The Ball

The Ball gets a good extra hour of free Portal 2 levels, including one devoted to bowling over Aperture Science turrets. The team have done a great job of recreating Portal 2's assets in the Unreal 3 engine.

Audiosurf

The Portal 2 update in Audiosurf replaces your ship with a portal gun, and adds companion cube blocks to the courses. The best update is the addition of new Portal 2 songs like the one in the video above. After a couple of listens, it really gets stuck in the brain.

Bit.Trip Beat

Glados has well and truly invaded Bit.Trip Beat with this difficult new level. Gaijin hinted in their latest blog post that more ARG clues will be revealed to those who achieve perfect completions of the new levels.

AaAaAA!!! - A Reckless Disregard for Gravity

Glados has a lot to say about falling off tall objects after the latest Portal 2 update to A Reckless Disregard for Gravity. Creators Dejobaan also created a brilliant overview of the progress of the ARG so far, ending with Glados' invasion of the potato sack games.

RUSH

What better way to combine Portal 2 with Rush than to add companion cubes? It's almost as cute as the Portal 2 level in Toki Tori below.

Toki Tori

Toki Tori's levels provided plenty of useful clues during the ARG. Their silhouettes formed decipherable codes that helped to unlock the passwords for the Aperture Science login screens. The new level has Glados hanging in the background, watching your every move.

Killing Floor

The new Killing Floor map has you fending off waves of zombies in a massive new Aperture Science map. The familiar human vendors have been replaced by a robot that looks just like one of Glados' personality spheres. It looks great, too, with its overgrown test chambers and giant buttons. You'll find their official screens of the new map below.

The potato sack sale is still going, offering 13 great indie titles at 75% off. You can buy each one individually for 50% off while the offer lasts. Head over to Steam to take advantage of the deal

Rock, Paper, Shotgun - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (John Walker)

Portal 2, which appears next Tuesday (how did that sneak up on us so fast?!), continues sneaking its way into other games. I imagine using portals. There must have been a more imaginative way of my phrasing that. Almost every member of the Potato Sack has gained content relating to the cryptic influence of GlaDOS, including Killing Floor, The Ball, RUSH, Super Meat Boy, Toki Tori and even Amnesia: The Dark Descent, which has got some new, free and somewhat cryptic DLC.
