For those of you who have joined us via the RO 2 (Free forever promotion from last Wednesday, the 23rd) or just from the Rising Storm free weekend (which ended last night), thanks!
A few notes (as we have noticed confusion on the subject):
1) If you got Red Orchestra 2 for Free, you still have full access to it (keep it forever). However the Rising Storm content (Pacific theater, Japanese vs United States) you will only have limited access to until you purchase Rising Storm (it is still on sale for another hour). http://store.steampowered.com/app/234510/
2) For those who picked up Rising Storm for the free weekend, you missed the promotion period for RO 2 for Free, and you will need to pick up Rising Storm to continue playing the game (once again still on sale for another hour). Rising Storm comes with the full RS and RO 2 multiplayer environment. http://store.steampowered.com/app/234510/
And a general note:
The game you want to install is the "Rising Storm/Red Orchestra 2 Multiplayer" application. The two beta applications are used to test future updates with the community.
We hope everybody had a great weekend! (And don't forget to grab an extra copy or 2 of RS to give to your friends!)
It will be free as in, grab it now, pay no money, and it is yours to keep forever FOR FREE!
To claim your Red Orchestra 2 gift, all you need to do is install it. If you dont install, it goes back to its regular price and you miss out!
Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad focuses on the Battle of Stalingrad and the surrounding operations, both German and Russian, from July 1942 to February 1943. The game allows the player to experience one of the most brutal battles in all of human history. Delivering unrivalled accuracy and attention to detail, along with gritty, vicious combat in multiplayer and single-player modes the game will feature everything from quick, brutal firefights to more intricate and challenging tactical modes.
Steam has a peculiar history with the word "free", thanks to its regular Free Weekends. Through them, you can get a free trial of the entirety of a game across a limited two-day period. Red Orchestra 2 will soon have one of these weekends, and an overall discount to go along with it. Even freer, though, is a deal that will go live for the multiplayer shooter later today. For a 24-hour period, you'll be able to download (and keep) the game forever, for free.
"Yes, Free!" confirms the enthusiastic Jared Creasy, Tripwire's community manager. "By navigating to http://store.steampowered.com/app/35450/ and downloading the game tomorrow after the promotion starts and before it ends (the promotion will last 24 hours), the game will be free to keep forever!"
It's not entirely clear when the deal will go live, but I suspect it'll be at the start of the new Steam-day around 10am PDT, or 6pm BST.
While it is a great deal, it's worth remembering that through Red Orchestra 2 you only get limited "rifle only" access to the Pacific-set follow up, Rising Storm. Owners of Rising Storm which recently updated with a free Game of the Year edition get full access to RO2's multiplayer.

Following this, we will be rolling into a free weekend for Rising Storm (free for a limited time) as well as a discount! If you've been trying to convince a friend to play Red Orchestra 2 with you, there will be no better time than tomorrow!
We will have a server build available in the near future. Those who are on the Tripwire Admins mailing list will get a message when the build is ready. Roughly an hour after that we will push the update live for all clients.
