When your game is already about killing mutated monstrosities, you really need to push the boat out for Halloween. Killing Floor has always handled events with gusto and this year is no different, with zombie hillbillies after your blood and delicious brains in a new map. The Hillbilly Horror update also adds four new weapons, and the game and its DLC are on sale t'boot.
The Halloween fun takes place on a redneck homestead by a lake of glowing ooze, which has the unfortunate side-effect of turning the local population into brain-hungry fiends. Luckily, you're now armed with a nail gun, World War 2 trench shotgun firing incendiary rounds, vintage MKb42(h) assault rifle, and a medic grenade which heals chums while poisoning monsters.
Completing new achievements can unlock a playable grim reaper skin, too.
If you need even more firepower, a pack of four community-made weapons selected from Steam Workshop submissions is out now, packing a scythe, Tommy gun, flare-firing revolver, and buzzsaw-launching crossbow. It'll regularly cost $7.99, with money going to the creators, but is currently only $3.99 in the sale.
Hillbilly Horror and the sale run until November 6. Hit the event page for more information.
Roll up, roll up, for the carnival of carnage that is Killing Floor's Summer Sideshow. The eviscerating event has returned until July 23 with five new weapons, a new fairground map 'Hellride,' and, of course, more murderous carnival freaks. Steam will automatically download the free update.
Once again, Killing Floor has been overrun with twisted sword-swallowers, chainsaw-wielding monkeys, vomit-spewing clowns, Siamese twins, and other mutated monstrosities. Fortunately, you have guns and swords. More guns now, in fact, now that the five weapons from the community-made IJC Pack are now officially part of the game, having been rebalanced a little.
The 16 Sideshow Steam achievements are back, unlocking the Steampunk Mr. Foster character if you get them all, along with 9 new achievements. Tripwire has also released four new characters in the Urban Nightmare DLC pack. If you have more money than sense, you can also pay $5 for the money-spewing Harold Lott, based on 80s comedy character Loadsamoney.
Hit Tripwire's Summer Sideshow page for more information. Look, a monkey!
While you may very well have more games than you'll ever finish thanks to the explosion of 'pay what you want' indie bundles, you can always do with more, yes? If you're not all bundled-out, have a gander at the Be Mine Indie Game Bundle, which packs The Ball, Beep, Wasteland Angel, Sideway: New York, Xotic, and Nikopol: Secrets of the Immortals, plus a little music.
The bundle's being sold through Groupees. All games offer Steam activation keys, and several are available as direct downloads too.
Extra 'Incentives' are unlocked as the sales hit milestones, with Xotic DLC packs and Nikopol itself already reached. Others include game soundtracks, more music, and an aquatic screensaver.
20% of the bundle's sales go to gaming charity Child's Play.
Tripwire Interactive announced that Killing Floor has crossed a million sales.
In addition, almost 2 million downloadable content packs have been sold, and players have clocked 45 million hours in the game. Players have taken down 440 million zeds, including roughly 250K Christmas Santas. The zed massacre is still ongoing, being killed at a rate of roughly 20,000 per hour.
"As a truly independent outfit who have funded ourselves all the way, we are particularly proud of the achievement," the company wrote in a statement. "Our thanks go to all the developers of the Killing Floor mod and everyone on the team here at Tripwire Interactive, who's continued support has made the game such a huge success. We would also like to thank all the members of the community who have made maps and other add-ons for the game, with the Killing Floor SDK. And, most importantly, we offer our thanks to all of the fans and everyone who has bought the game over the past two years and helped make Killing Floor the cultural phenomenon that it is today."
To celebrate, and no doubt to sell even more copies, Tripwire is offering the game for a whopping 85% off through Steam as the digital retailer's "Midweek Madness" sale. That brings it down to $2.99 through February 16. The Killing Floor bundle, which includes various character packs, is down to $4.78 through the same period.
When the name of your game is Killing Floor and the premise is "kill everything that isn't you," a certain amount of holiday cheer is expected. Developer Tripwire Interactive has announced the return of its Twisted Christmas holiday event, which will add a new level, music, weapons, and achievements to the game for a limited time.
The content is free to all owners of the game will be available from December 7 through January 4. Killing Floor will also be free to play via Steam this weekend, beginning December 8 through December 11.
But, that's not all: "Returning from last year's event we have Christmas themed specimens replacing all of the regular baddies, Santaâs Evil Lair, Christmas themed achievements and the chance for those who missed unlocking the special Baddest Santa character last year to grab him this time around."
This year's event adds the level Ice Cave as well as seven brand new weapons. Another character DLC character pack is also in the works, entitled Steampunk 2, helping users "complete the set" of Steampunk-style characters introduced in previous DLC.
For more information on the content, check out the game's official blog.
Killing Floor is available on Steam, Direct2Drive, and other digital distribution services.
With the scariest holiday on the calendar creeping near, a Hellish handful of vicious video ghouls (games) are hosting Halloween festivities. If you can't find the fishnet stockings needed to complete your Sexy Parking Meter costume, and will be staying, here's a few unspeakable ideas on how to amuse yourself this wicked weekend.
You can seek the Bombinomicon in Team Fortress 2, fight Dracula and dress as Commander Chicken in Killing Floor, escape a zombie nightmare in Train Simulator 2012, and join in plenty of other spooky thrills.
Once again, Team Fortress 2 is running the scariest show in town, with the Third Annual Scream Fortress Very Scary Halloween Special. After reading the fabulous new comic revealing the terrifying truth behind the Demonman's missing eye, you'll be ready to hunt the accursed orb.
The map Viaduct has become the haunted Eyeaduct, where you'll face the twisted creature the Demoman's eye became, the Monoculus. Defeating it will grant rewards, while you can also find new and fantastic Hallowe'en costumes, buy chilling new Mann Store items, or get a cauldron of goodies just for playing.
Survival shooter Killing Floor is running the Halloween Sideshow, bringing back and spookifying the cast of the Summer Sideshow. The Abusement Park has relocated to the asylum map of Bedlam, where you'll find goblins, were-bunnies, pumpkins, and Dracula baying for your blood.
If you collect all seven new Killing Floor Halloween achievements, you'll unlock a Commander Chicken outfit to wear. Yes, it is a chicken suit.
Rock of Ages has rolled out a Jack-o'-lantern boulder skin for you to pummel your foes with, along with a spooky new title screen.
Railworks 3: Train Simulator 2012 is celebrating Halloween with perhaps the single oddest piece of downloadable content ever created, Trains vs Zombies.
Zombies have invaded the Oxford-Paddington route, so you'll need to drive a group of survivors, including a mysterious man known as The Professor, to a secret bunker beneath Paddington Station, switching trains and dodging the dastardly undead along the way. Yes. $4.99 will get you four scenarios with zombies, witches, and flying trains.
And, of course, there are heaps o' Halloween sales going on, but we'll have more on that in our weekend digital deals roundup later today.
A special 'Steam Digital Deluxe Edition' of Tripwire's PC WW2 shooter sim Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad has been unveiled, packing bonuses including beta access, new playable characters for Tripwire's Killing Floor, and new Team Fortress 2 hats. Pre-orders are now open for both the standard and special Steam editions, with a nifty discount.
The Steam Digital Deluxe Edition, naturally available only through Steam, costs $10 more than the regular game. It will grant you access to the last stage of the pre-release beta test, along with day-1 unlocks of two elite assault weapons and a pair of semi-auto sniper weapons when the game launches. And then there's the bonuses for other games.
In TF2, you'll get a German helmet and Russian "Pilotka" hat to wear. And while the Killing Floor playable characters you also get appear to be anachronistic Russian and German soldiers, they are, in fact, WW2 re-enactors. Well played, Tripwire.
The regular and Steam Digital Deluxe editions can now be pre-ordered from Steam with a 10% discount. This brings it to $35.99 for the plain-o version and $44.99 for the fancy one.
What's more, if you own the original Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45 on Steam, the pre-order discount is bumped up to 20% off. You'll also score wearable Russian Guards and German Close Combat badges, and instant unlocks of the Kar98 and Mosin rifle bayonets.
Red Orchestra 2 is deploying to PC on August 30.
Having already made winter terrifying with the Twisted Christmas update,Tripwire's PC co-op survival shooter Killing Floor is turning its attention to another season. The ghoulish 'Summer Sidehow' event will begin on June 30 and run until July 22.
The Summer Sideshow will bring free new content including a macabre map set in a funfair, the Abusement Park. You'll find it populated by freakish versions of the classic Killing Floor enemies, such as the Two-Headed Girl, the Bearded Lady, the Incredible Monkey Man, and the Fleshclown.
There'll also be special Steampunk player skins, so you can join in the Victorian weirdo fun yourself. Steampunk Mr Foster will be unlocked as a reward for collecting ten of the update's thirteen new achievements. If you want to give Tripwire money for its splendid ongoing support of Killing Floor, there'll be a new steampunk DLC character pack; previous packs have cost $2.
A new map, Santa's Evil Lair, will overflow with special yuletide versions of Killing Floor's genetic monstrosities, from gingerbread men and elves to Jack Frost and Big S himself. There'll also be also new achievements and an unlockable 'Baddest Santa' player skin.
On top of all that, players who also own Team Fortress 2 will be able to play as the Pyro in Killing Floor and score a 'Mr Fosters Gasmask and Tie' item to wear back in TF2.
The Twisted Christmas event will kick off on December 14, running until January 4.
