Sniper: Ghost Warrior has sold two million copies, Polish game company City Interactive has announced.

The first-person shooter went on sale in June 2010 on PC and Xbox 360. A PlayStation 3 version launched a year later.

"We are all very happy that we have reached the two million units milestone," City Interactive boss Marek Tymiński said.

"This builds a strong belief we can do even better with the sequel and other upcoming releases."

Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2, built using Crytek's game engine CryEngine 3, is due out in 2012.

City Interactive announced Sniper had sold one million copies in February 2011 - seven months after it launched.

When the democratic government of Isla Trueno is overthrown, an aggressive and hostile military command rises to power. A highly trained special ops unit is sent in to help the rebels accomplish objectives that only a sniper can handle. In addition to intense sniper missions, players will also take part in a variety of assault scenarios where their prowess with weapons will be a huge help to the undermanned rebels.

Total War totally on sale
What's this, every Total War title except Shogun and Shogun 2, with all accompanying DLC for just £8.74 / $12.49? What are you doing to us, Steam sale? I was planning to eat, and perhaps sleep this weekend but NO, you have to throw hundreds of hours of world class strategy gaming at me for a price that my buying finger can't not click on.

Wait, there's more? Gravity mangling platformer VVVVVV, for just 99p / $1.24? That's less than I paid for my cup of coffee this morning. The slick shouting-at-people-until-they-crack simulator LA Noire, which has only been out for two minutes, is half price. And Fallout: New Vegas and all its DLC packs are available at prices that make the upcoming Ultimate Edition seem a little redundant.

Also on sale today:

Red Orchestra series
Operation Flashpoint franchise
RIFT
Sniper: Ghost Warrior
The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition
Roller Coaster Tycoon 3: Platinum
Two Worlds franchise

The deals will change around again in six hours time, so keep an eye on the Steam front page. The Autumn sale will wrap up on Sunday, giving us some time to play everything we've bought before the big Christmas sale kicks off.

The Latest Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 Screens Have Nowhere to Hide Don't look at me, I'm just as bewildered as many of you are that Sniper: Ghost Warrior did well enough to score a sequel. Perhaps it had something to do with the sexy scenery City Interactive is showing off in the sequel's screenshots.

While I'm a huge proponent for sniping early and often, I just couldn't get into the original Sniper: Ghost Warrior. I generally prefer a game where I get the odd chance to show off my long-range projectile firing skills. Maybe the game was just too much of a good thing?

Either way, even more of a good thing is coming to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC in early 2012.

Become the bane of enemy soldiers who can't quite take cover properly in Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2. City Interactive will bring their CryEngine 3 powered sniper sim to PC next March. It'll hit Europe on March 16, and the US on March 20. The in-game footage above is taken from Sniper's Gamescom showing, and feels a lot like Call of Duty 4's Chernobyl level, in which you spend a lot of time dressed as a bush, being told what to do by another man dressed as a bush. But imitating greenery is the second most exciting thing about being a sniper. The first is the feeling of god-like power as you hover your sights over a distant, unaware foe. Expect plenty of that come March 2012.

Sniper: Ghost Warrior launches on iPhone and iPad early 2012, City Interactive has announced.

Polish developer Vivid Games has created a bespoke version of the shooter for Apple's mobile devices.

It uses Epic's Unreal Engine 3, and features touchscreen controls.

Sniper iOS will compliment Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2, due out on console and PC early next year.

"Sniping is poetry in slow motion, up until you pull the trigger," Remigiusz Koscielny, president of Vivid Games, enthused.

"The trigger for upcoming iOS game based on well known Sniper: Ghost Warrior franchise has been pulled by a two great Polish companies that teamed up to create premium quality sniping game. We're proud and excited about this project, and we will use our best effort and knowledge to deliver very best, elite military experience on mobile market up to date."

Shooter sequel Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 will run on Crytek's fancy new CryEngine 3.

Developer City Interactive has released the first image from the game, showing an intricately detailed exterior of what appears to be a Tibetan monastery. Himalayan mountains rise in the background. The player, naturally, holds a scoped rifle in hand.

CryEngine 3 debuted in Crytek's own FPS Crysis 2. The engine allows for advanced lighting and extraordinarily detailed environments.

The original Sniper, launched on PC and Xbox 360 last year, took a critical bullet to the head. Eurogamer awarded 2/10. That bullet wasn't fatal, however, as sturdy sales prompted a revised PS3 port to be released last month.

City Interactive has its sights set on a 2012 release for Sniper 2.
