Shacknews - Ozzie Mejia
Cellar Door Games is close to releasing the Mac and Linux versions of their chivalrous roguelike, Rogue Legacy. The studio has told Shacknews that it is splitting their upcoming patch into two pieces to help expedite the process. In addition to bringing the game to new platforms, the first patch will also add save slots, which will allow multiple friends to forge their family tree on a single computer.

Major Changes:
- Implemented some non-trivial optimizations to increase game performance.
(Smarter sprite batching)
(Merged several spritesheets to reduce texture swapping)

- Forced flushing to OS stream for backup files to (hopefully) reduce the chances of a backup save corrupting.

Rogue Legacy is a genealogical rogue-"LITE" where anyone can be a hero.

Each time you die, your child will succeed you. Every child is unique. One child might be colorblind, another might have tourettes-- they could even be a dwarf.

That's OK, because no one is perfect, and you don't have to be perfect to win this game. But you do have to be pretty darn good because this game is HARD. Fortunately, every time you die all the gold you've collected can be used to upgrade you manor, giving your next child a step up in life and another chance at vanquishing evil.

My Rogue Legacy ends in defeat. I’m close to discovering all of the castle’s secrets and I’ve slain fearsome bosses, each taking me one step closer to victory, but my much-pruned family tree has been reduced to kindling. As I peeled my eyes from the window in which so many generations had perished, I vowed to remember my last and most valiant relation – a giant lich queen with a vampiric sword and a fear of chickens.>
