The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing was an action RPG which prompted John to use such breathless superlatives as “pleasant” and “absorbing”, so I assume you’re all pre-ordering its sequel immediately. Said sequel is out next month, and while it broadly looks like another sup from the same clicky-deathfest-with-tower-defence-bits cup, it promises more character classes, weapons and whatnot, as well as the slightly discomfiting claim to have “even more humour” and “MOAR easter eggs.” … [visit site to read more]

Dear Friends,

the time has finally come to open our second pre-order season. Some of you might already know the drill, some of you might be new, so let me give you a taste of what is ahead of us: last May marked the release of our first Action RPG, The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing, the first of three planned games, a steampunk trilogy set in a gothic-noir universe.

We never would have made it this far without you, at least not as an indie company.

Now the adventure finally continues and we are ready to announce the release date for the second installment in the Van Helsing trilogy, as well as open the pre-order for various supporter packages in various price ranges. There is still tremendous work ahead of us, but we are positive that the game will be released on April 17th with a plenty of amazing features!

And now we ask you once again to show your generous support. It's quite easy, actually: purchase one of the special packs, and in return we will provide you with pack-exclusive materials as a token of our appreciation. Updates to The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client (in on-line mode) is restarted.

The Incredible Adventures Of Van Helsing v1.2.73

Fixed bugs:

  • Katarina's Chillwave now affects cast speed too.
  • Katarina's basic ranged attack is now homing to guarantee a hit.
  • Parry now works on ranged attacks, if the enemy is close enough.
  • After defeating the final boss, now all the enemies on the map die immediatly, as they should.
  • Swirling Void no longer sticks to the selected enemy if it's no longer selected.
  • The game now correctly plays videos again.
  • Traps are now working correctly again.
  • You can now disable controller by starting the game with "nocontroller" (without quotes) command line argument.

Multiplayer:

  • Fixed a bug where the final boss did not change attack state on the client side.
  • Fixed a bug where the final boss did not play charge sound during charging on the client side.
  • In some special cases the cooldown could go to infinite cooldown. This bug has been fixed.

Major changes include:


Balance changes

- Defense, Parry and Dodge are now working even if you are being held by a spell.
- Mines placed by enemies were nerfed.
- Cooldown for Ghastly Shape is reduced for the Hunter class but not for the Thaumaturge.

Fixed bugs

- Enemy in Tunnels quest no longer gets stuck if you complete the Lair Siege before accepting it.
- The Dark Alchemist quest no longer gets stuck if you talked with the NPC before killing the ghouls.
- There were some errors in the Active Quest text space calculation.
- Masteries of Clearshot, Aura of Counterbalance and Barrier have been fixed.
- Rampage aura no longer appears twice, if the mastery is active and the first mastery now affects the second mastery.
- You can no longer write [] characters in chat (it would break the formatting).
- Fixed the chat coloring bug.
- You can now start neverending story if you are level 30 even if you haven't finished the story mode.
- Infinite glory level bug is now fixed.
- Critical damage multiplier is now fixed to 400% (instead of 500%)
- Fixed a bug with the glory leveling. Sometimes you got reward twice for one level up.
- FixQuest 17 for those who can't complete the Ritual quest for Saffi.
- The character no longer moves if you press an unassigned action key.
- Mines no longer explodes when destroyed before activating.
- From now on, you get magic item find bonus for playing Nerverending Story.
- From now on, you get Glory XP for every 50 XP you would normally get from quest rewards. (E.g. for a 400 XP quest, you get 8 Glory point.)
- Difficulty, NG+, Player count bonuses now applies to summoned allies too.
- NG+ modifiers now applies to sigils, and other objects.
- Harpies in the Scarecrow bossfight no longer spawn inside the Scarecrow.
- Fixed some Damage Over Time skills' damage.
- Fixed the Hunters Rejuvenation aura, and the tooltip.
- Enemy objects (sigils, mines, etc.) now have a higher priority than monsters when selecting a target.
- Fixed a bug where HP potions restored mana too.
- Your character no longer loses the targetted enemy if you cast an instantly castable spell (e.g. Arcane Healing).
- Fixed a potential crash on map change.

Thaumaturge

- Monsters now properly attack other monsters under the effect of the Control spell.
- Mind Blast now works properly.
- When using the Control spell, the controlled monster's max hp usually changed for the duration of the spell. This issue has been fixed.

Multiplayer

- Fixed the Dodge, Defense and Resist effects in PVP
- Fixed the effects of the shrines on the Pocket Realm Battle Royale map
- The name of the server can now be only 80 characters long (too long names crashed the game).
- There is now an assist system in the Battle Royale. If you didn't make the final blow, but damaged the target within 10 secs, you get half of the score.
- In PVP, you can now get the killing score, even if a neutral monster done the killing blow, if you hit the target within 10 secs.
- Fixed a bug where Auto Drink Potion function ignored the potion cooldown in Battle Royale.
- Being invited or joining a friend no longer bypasses the normal limitations to joining a game like level limits or Hardcore incompatibility.
- Hardcore characters no longer die permanently in PVP mode.
- Fixed some errors that could prevent updating of HP in some special cases.
- Fixed a bug where the critical damage animation didn't play correctly in some cases
- Lobby window no longer remains visible after you have been disconnected.
- Quiting and returning to the lobby will now clear previous messages.
- Kick/Ban/Steam Profile now works in the lobby
- Self-Winding for the Pocket Mechanoid now works correctly on the client side too.
- The effect of Pocket Mechanoid should now properly appear on the client side.

Mac

- "Old town" and "Abandoned Research Laboratory" map related crashes fixed.
- Sound related artifacts and crashes fixed.
- Memory related crashes fixed.

Balance Changes:

Hunter: The Deep Cuts powerup of Flowing Combo now deals 10% damage each second.

Fixed bugs:
-Fixed an issue with Lady Katarina's ability point reset.
-Optimized the loading time
-Your character now stops moving if you try to cast a spell that can't be casted instead of just moving to the previous target position.
-Katarina no longer uses the shooting skill when attacking with melee.
-Fixed a bug with Katarina's skill dodge feature.
-Fulmigati's Shield value no longer sticks on the info bar after the shield has delepelted.
-The active quests now correctly calculates the required space on smaller resolutions.
-Fixed some text alignment errors.
-The Ink in the Well no longer closes after completing the quest. If it has already closed for you, use the FixQuest 15
-Control spell no longer selects the controlled monster in some cases.
-Fixed an issue with Critical Damage calculation.
-You can no longer get a Mysterious Gemstone in the Dreadworks scenario.
-The Blue Blood DLC aura and trick no longer counts toward Jack of All Trades.
-Fixed several inconsistencies with Mana Costs and Damage for DOT effects.
-The cooldown cap is 60%, not 40%.
-Fixed the Kill Fulmigati's General quest.
-Powerups activated didn't properly reset for skills on buttons (ie. not on mouse clicks) when used. This should be fixed.
-Stat stacking bug should be fixed as well.

Thaumaturge:
-You can no longer crit yourself with Boiling Blood.
-Arcane Meditation (a mastery of the Arcane Flux aura) increases your Mana Regeneration by 30% of your Max Mana. The tooltip was updated to reflect that.

Arcane Mechanic:
-Fixed an issue causing mechanical spiders to get stuck when using the Self-Winding Mechanism powerup.

Multiplayer:

-"Friends only" games now properly show on the game list, if one of your friends has joined.
-Fixed a major issue with the final boss, causing clients to get stuck in the cutscene before that battle.
-Fixed a lot of errors with the final boss.
-Energy bolt's passive should now properely work on the client's side too.
-You can now inspect or trade by right clicking on the icon of the player instead of clicking -on the character.
-You should no longer enter a map twice if there was a lag during the load
-Fixed a bug where not all the hidden enchantments got unlocked on the client side.
-The trade now correctly calculates the empty space by removing the traded items.
-There is a feedback sound now if trade cannot be accepted because there is no room for the received items.
-You can now kick/ban other users through the scoreboard in PvP

Fixed bugs:

  • New command: /FixQuest 14 - for those who could not complete the "Roaming Abominations" quest.
  • Some of the effects of the Sphere of Timelessness didn't apply for the client (no regeneration for example).
  • "Destroy all enemy guard posts" no longer reappears on the map after completing the quest.
  • Fixed some targetting issues.
  • Display resolution and "no graphics" issues are all resolved. Resolution settings now all work as they should.
  • Fixed a crash on game startup.
  • Some stability issues fixed on PC.

Multiplayer:

  • Fixed an issue where the monsters what killed while the client was on loading screen was stuck in the death animation.
  • Spell cooldown no longer flickers for the client.
  • Steam Invite should now work correctly.
  • Fixed a bug where the new game+ games wasn't recognised as New Game+ game, so people with NG+ characters could not join.

Mac:

  • Fixed some memory leaks.
  • Grass flickering is now fixed.

Balance changes:

  • Willpower will now give both a fixed and a percentage based bonus to
  • Resistances for Lady Katarina.

Fixed bugs:

  • The "Enemy in the tunnels" quest no longer gets stuck if you complete the Protect the Lair quest before accepting it.
  • New command: /FixQuest 13 - for those who have the Enemy in tunnels quest already stuck.
  • Fixed an issue with Monster Respawn, where quests like Ancinent Inkgate got stuck.
  • If you had problem with the 'Ancient Inkgate' quest (bosses are not targetable, and they won't move), FixQuest 12 now will start the bossfight instead of just skipping it. For new characters, this issue has been fixed altogether, so they don't have to use the command.
  • Fixed a crash with the map loading.
  • Fixed a bug with the "Find the Engineer" quest.
  • Some of the elevators did not work in the Dreadworks scenario, making it impossible to complete the challenge. This has been fixed.

New features:

  • Lady Katarina has her own Drink Potion button in the upper left corner.
  • You can now edit the in-game resolutions via the config files located in \SteamApps\common\The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing\Cfg\Resolutions .

Major changes include:

Balance changes:

  • Greater Capacitive Essence can no longer be enhanced.

Fixed bugs:

  • Players can now reach the Industrial Port.
  • Fresh characters can now battle the bosses guarding the Inkgate to the mines, and proceed through the inkgate.
  • Physical Damage bonus from Glory no longer affects other damage types.
  • Fixed an issue causing certain unique items to respawn.
  • Fixed the minimaps for the DLC quest locations.
  • Removed the invisible mining cart from the Dreadworks.
  • The Gambler icon on the minimap confused many people because it had a question mark similar to the one used for quests. The icon now resembles a rolling die.
  • In windowed mode, clicking outside the window should no longer minimize the window.
  • The Assistant quest should no longer get stuck if you buy the generator plan before accepting the quest.

Thaumaturge

  • Casting firewall while moving no longer causes the character to stutter.

Mac

  • "Affect GUI Resolution" now works on Mac as well.

Multiplayer

  • The game now tries direct connection first, and only if it fails, tries to connect through backend servers. Opening port 6329 should fasten the procedure.
  • Improved the NAT Punchthrough procedure, should be faster and more reliable.

New features:

  • If "Affect GUI Resolution" is turned on, you can select any available resolutions (lower than your Desktop resolution). This also applies on Mac.
