Expansion 29 Preview

This week's preview is going to be a little different. Ahead of Planar Disturbances' release we are posting the expansion's story along with today's rune art preview because as you will see the two are very much connected.

The First Disturbance



Zeventrech lowered himself down the last part of the cliff face, and stood on the thin strip of sandy beach. The ocean reached far to the horizon, sighing along with him. Lenet, his Jakei escort, and Korin had stayed in the outskirts of Ironfist to handle the new Valdeci problem, so Zeventrech was alone. He was used to it.

The great Sea of Separation spread out before him, and Zeventrech was struck with a rare sense of nostalgia, for the land that he knew lay somewhere out there, beyond sight, which had once been half his home. Long dead... long dead. He turned down to the water at his feet. As expected, there was wreckage in the surf. He had heard reports in J’Thir, passed on up from the Forglar coast, concerned, but uncertain, idle reports. Here it was, though, along the Peaks coast as well, were Zeventrech had worried it would be.

With slow, laborious breathes Zeventrech dropped to one knee. He prodded a small piece of metal -- shipping hull of some kind -- with his staff, and then picked it up. It now made sense why the Salaman investigators were confused. If Gekaal had seen it, there was a chance he would have recognized it, but even that was unlikely. The metal shard hummed deeply with nora, but it was an empty hum, like the sound an instrument makes when touched by a buzzing tuning fork. The nora in the wreckage was inherited and accidental.

Zeventrech had never before encountered this kind of resonance. But he had heard of it. This nora pattern also bore a striking similarity to that which had destroyed the old Empire: the nora of the Separation. But what did it mean for these shards to wash up on Pox’s southern shores?

“It couldn’t be another Separation.” Zeventrech muttered. “The traces appeared after the fact. We had no warning.”

Zeventrech was about to look at the fragment itself, when he heard growling off to the left. With some effort, he stood up, and held his staff at the ready. Zeventrech wasn’t eager for a fight at the best of times, but was a willing and able sorcerer when the need arose. Recently, however, with the Arroyo breaking through and this new disturbance in the nora weave, he was leery of casting any magic at all. Had his personal inspection of the shoreline wreckage not demanded speed, he would have even forgone his teleportation spell. This handicap on his mind, Zeventrech squinted along the surf.

A pack of four beasts, wolflike and on all fours, loped along the water’s edge, alternately smelling nora exuding from the detritus, and eating carrion that had washed in. Spotting the cyclops, they eyed him warily. They were obviously hungry. The front two of the pack approached, testing Zeventrech for a flinch, or weakness. He knew this game.

He took a deep breath. Zeventrech grasped his staff at both ends and raised it high over his head. Then he let out a great roar -- a slight risk, that he would attract something worse, but worth the chance. It had the desired effect. Over a dozen feet tall, robe billowing out and staff splitting the sunlight, with his red glowing eye as though bloodshot and backlit, Zeventrech was a fearsome representative of his race. The mongrels, in due form, fled back the direction they had come.

After a few moments, Zeventrech brought his staff back to his side and coughed. The brutish, barbaric nature of his present-day kin disgusted him, but he could ape it well enough when the need arose. Better to let his enemies think he could crush them with a giant stick, than have to walk over and try.

Zeventrech knelt back down to examine the discarded metal. He turned it over twice in his hand, rubbed it between his fingers, and then tossed it aside to examine another piece in like fashion.

“Fishing boat? Seems unlikely.” He mumbled to himself. “Nora like this doesn’t show up on a fishing boat. A trade vessel, perhaps? The Salaman and the Draksar are trading -- maybe something exploded on a ship? But then, there are pieces of two ships here… hrm.”

Zeventrech tossed the fragments away and collapsed into a sitting position. He looked off to the horizon, as though searching for the source.

“Multiple ships … a battle? Did someone renege on the treaty? But we would have heard about it. And the Salaman would have reported something that took out multiple vessels. Hm. So those were Wrath ships out there, Draksar ships almost certainly. In secret. But what those old sons of Valdec would want with this kind of magic on the open ocean I have no id--- “

Zeventrech felt a chill. A deep tingling ran through his skin, something different from the harsh ice of the Tundra, something different from the chilly breeze which wafted off the waves. He was uncertain, but also very, very afraid. Hastily, he pushed himself standing, as though it would help. His breathing had thickened without him noticing.

He steadied himself. Zeventrech had not become agitated in many years, certainly not since Sarinda returned him to life.

Zeventech closed his eye, channeled nora, and teleported away. Speed was paramount. He would need every moment possible if there was to be any chance of preventing the horror to come.

We have a new piece of rune art to preview today for Expansion 29. Before getting to the rune art, there is another piece of information we want to share with all of you, the expansion's name. The official name of Pox Nora's 29th expansion is, Planar Disturbances. Is this foreboding things to come in future expansions or the impact of previous events? All of you can start speculating as to what this all means as details continue to unfold.

Rune Art Preview
How are Kings made? Is it divine right? Being an excellent commander? Or, are they the shadow puppet of some political bureaucrat? Behold the Kingmaker!



Ponder about the role the Kingmaker plays within the the lands and if he is a force for good or has some hidden agenda. Discuss what his ability Gift: Kingmaker might do and how it will turn the tides of battle.

But that isn't all, there are two other runes featured in this illustration. See if you can pick them out and determine what they will do.

Mechanic Changes
  • Change the Knockback mechanic so if a champion with no AP, when they would be knockbacked into a chasm, they take 5 DMG per Knockback square instead. It now functions like being knocked into an object.
Bug Fixes
  • Fixed various game crashes.
  • Fixed an issue when the ability Eternal Life triggers where it was giving the champion created the default upgrades instead of selected upgrades.
  • Fixed an issue where the ability Dragon Form was not properly granting the ability Flamestrike.
  • Fixed an issue where the ability Dispel would work on champions with Impenetrable,
  • Fixed an exploit that allowed untradeable champions to be traded by using the increase bid option.
  • Fixed an issue with the condition Locus Swarmed where it would presist if the affected champion was in the AOE when effect ended.
  • Fixed an issue where the equipment Akakios's Blade is not giving Flamestrike when it is equipped on Draksars.
  • Fixed an issue where the ability Stasis would trigger if it was given to an already deployed champion. It should now trigger only when a champion comes into play.
  • Runes that were for the use in Single Player campaigns that some players were able to get through exploits can no longer be used in Ranked Play.
  • Fixed an issue with the ability Still Life's stealthed condition would go into negative numbers and would not properly refresh when the champion did not move.
  • Fixed an issue when Damage Over Time Immunity abilities when triggered would create a new ability.
  • Fixed an issue where the ability Avatar was not preventing them from being targeted by the Bloodseeker ability.
  • Fixed an issue with the ability Preparation were it was only resetting when the attack is successful.

We are happy to announce the Spirits Beyond Midterm will be released on May 11th!



The time sure flies, but this means you won't be waiting long before eight all new Legendary runes are added to Pox Nora. All of you can also look forward to a Ratings reset for this Midterm. League progression will remain, but with a Ratings reset all of you will be able to battle again for the top position on the Leaderboard.

Weekend Tournament
This weekend's tournament is now available. It is a standard 4 person tournament, using Ranked Maps, with a total turn time limit per player per match of 30 minutes. This tournament will be available from May 6th through May 8th.

Rewards:
  • 1st place: 1 Gold Champion Point Token and a 3 Day Double Gold Bonus Token
  • 2nd place: 1 Silver Champion Point Token and a 1 Day Double Gold Bonus Token

We have a patch for all of you to address some of the feedback and observations that have come up since the release of Spirits Beyond.

Changes
  • Fixed several issues that would result in error messages in a match.
  • Fixed an issue where the Flying description on abilities that give this effect was out of date.
  • Fixed a typo in the Visions of Amareth story.
  • The status effects for Enraged will now properly show the amount damage was increased.
  • Fixed an issue where the equipment Special Prize would not give the condition Defenseless after 4 attacks and would sometimes duplicate the equipment to a friendly champion.
  • Fixed an issue where the spell Forced Reconstruction would not deploy the Misshapen Boghopper on lava.
  • Fixed an issue on the website where sometimes a players name would appear twice in Search for Player.
  • Fixed an issue on the website where not all of the non-standard leagues were being shown on the rankings pages.
  • Fixed an issue where the ability Irresponsible Essence Imbibment was not causing the champion to gain HP.
  • Fixed an issue with the ability Mind Lock where if the target had no non-basic attack activated abilities the ability would still go on cooldown.
  • Fixed an issue with the ranked map rotation where the wrong versions of Tundra Lake and Lost City were being used.
  • The effects of the spell Warchief Inauguration can no properly be dispelled.
  • Fixed an issue the prevented the spell Glimpse of Death from being deployed from Rune Dock.
  • Fixed an issue where the ability Prismatic Sigil was giving the melee Frost Attack, Fire Attack, and Magical Attack instead of the range specific versions.
  • Fixed an issue where the ability Dragon Form was not giving the ability Flamestrike when the champion is transformed.
  • Fixed an issue with the relic Long Fuse Bomb that was causing it not to work.

Spirits Beyond is here, and with it comes new runes, a campaign, balance changes, and more! Now you can see everything that was brought up in the Preview Video as you play.



General
  • 51 New runes have been added to Pox Nora. Three of these new runes are Limited Edition.
  • The League Rewards have been updated to award Spirits Beyond runes.
  • The all new challenging Hand of Death campaign has been added to Pox Nora, and is available for purchase on the Marketplace. Completing this brand new campaign on Legendary difficulty will award the Glimpse of Death limited edition rune!
  • Spirits Beyond Pack has been added to the Marketplace. This pack comes with: 6 common, 3 uncommon, and 1 rare rune. Each rare slot has a 10% chance of becoming an exotic. Each pack comes with 1 FREE Platinum Token..
  • Spirits Beyond has been added to the Marketplace. This box comes with 10 Spirits Beyond packs. Get 9 packs and the 10th is FREE. The first pack is guaranteed to contain an Exotic and 500 FREE Shards.
  • Spirits Beyond Megabox has been added to the Marketplace for a limited time. This mega box comes with three Spirits Beyond boxes, one of 2 LEs (Valdaci Emerald or Valdaci Shield) and an additional 5 FREE Platinum tokens.
  • The rewards for Heroic Achievements no longer count against the daily gold limit.
  • Made some more improvements on the back end to the Heroic Achievement system.
  • The Rune Forge limit on crafting Exotic and Legendary runes has been increased to 20 per week from 6 per week.
  • Now available, an all new Spirits Beyond Story Chapter.
  • The Visions of Amareth expansion has been added to the Rune Forge.
  • Due to player feedback we have given the Mountain Slag champion new art. The old art has been repurposed into a new Armored Fesh for Spirits Beyond.
  • Website is now fully using the new League icons.
  • Website rankings will now include all non-Standard Leagues.
  • Range champions have been adjusted to be more balanced in relation to melee.

  • Relics can now be Eviscerated
Visions of Amareth Final Days Event
The Visions of Amareth Final Days Event has concluded. Packs have been awarded to players based on fulfilling the reward criteria of 1 Visions of Amareth pack for every 10 Ranked matches played lasting 10 minutes or longer. To redeem the packs once they have been rewarded, you will need to go to the Marketplace and click on the link that says Entitlements at the top of the screen.

The winner of Grand Prize for the Visions of Amareth Final Days Event can be found on full Patch Notes.

Drums of War and Player Ranks
All players who played a minimum of 50 ranked matches and their primary faction was the Drums of War Winning Faction, Forsaken Wastes, have been awarded 2000 Gold along with 5 Three Day Gold Bonus Tokens.

Drums of War and Player Ranks have been reset. The Players who were the highest contributors to their faction and highest ranked player from each faction have been awarded 15000 Gold. To find out who were the top players be sure to checkout the full Patch Notes.

Fixes
  • Fixed several issues that would result in error messages in a match.
  • Fixed an issue that was resulting in enemy champions being deployed at the Player's Shrine on the Wrath Walkthrough Campaigns.
  • Fixed an issue where the condition from the spell Escape Magic couldn't be dispelled.
  • Fixed an issue that was causing the spell Mirrorhold to instantly destroy champions with the Titan ability.
  • Fixed an issue where the ability Divine Regeneration was cleansing the Sundered Lands Avatar.
  • Fixed an issue where the equipment Soul Reaver continually defile in AE3 while it was equipped.
  • Fixed an issue with the ability Blindfire where the minimum range of the ability wasn't reflecting the min range of the champion.
  • Fixed an issue where the ability Planar Bound would not prevent relocation from the spells Undertow and Swap.
  • Fixed an issue where the ability Teleport: Blood Ball would use AP and go on cooldown when targeting a Blood Ball that is on inaccessible terrain.
  • Fixed an issue where the condition Incorporeal was calculating Damage before Defense not after, which resulted in higher than intended damage reduction.
  • Fixed an issue with the spell Pride of Sarnghaver where it would not last the full duration and could not be dispelled when it should.
  • Fixed an issue where the ability Soulsift would not trigger if the champion is killed by the ability Short Lived.
  • Fixed an issue where the ability Feint was using the champion's MIN RNG instead of Range 1-5.
  • Fixed an issue where the ability Heart Strike would affect relics.
  • Fixed an issue where the spell Lay Bridge was not converting affected Chasm spaces into Stone.
  • Fixed an issue where the ability Bile Explosion would not give condition Scoured.
  • The condition from the spell Repurpose can now properly be dispelled.
  • Fixed an issue with the spell Arise that would prevent Stitched champions from being deployed if the Stitched Remains were on certain terrain types.
  • Fixed an issue where the ability Charged Blast was not targeting 2x2 champions under certain conditions.
  • Fixed an issue where the ability Warding would persist if the ability Warchief: Stone Clan was removed form the champion in-match.
  • The ability Mindflayer Jumper will now properly equip the closest friendly unequipped champion with Mindflayer.
  • Fixed an issue where the ability Ice Block was missing an icon.
  • Fixed an issue where the spell Ferocity of Kain Taris could not be cleansed.
  • Fixed two issues with the ability Locust Swarm where the debuff would incorrectly affect friendly units and would not affect Stealthed units.
  • Fixed an issue with the ability Seism where it triggers again if the ability returned after being remove from effects like confused
  • Removed the preview range for the ability Dimension Door on the Dimension Door relic.
  • Fixed an issue where the ability Burning Sandspout was not giving the Charred and Inhibited conditions if the target had the condition Sandblasted and was not on sand.
  • Fixed an issue where the ability Quest: Complete Training was only increasing the max HP instead of current and max.
  • The condition from the spell Escape Magic can now be dispelled.
  • Fixed an issue where the ability Ooze Tap was affecting champions with alternate forms of flight like Arctic Flight.
  • Fixed an issue with the spell Mimic that was causing it to not appropriately copy the adjacent enemy champion's upgrade abilities.
  • Fixed an issue where the relic Artillery Marker would not trigger if the movement was not "normal movement" such as movement from Wandering or Manic.
  • Fixed an issue with the spell Blink not returning champion if terrain effect was activated on that champions redeployment space.
