And Yet It Moves

The Humble Indie Bundle Gets Bigger, Better, and Therefore Less HumbleThe new Humble Indie Bundle is terrific. For a price of your own choosing, you can get indie gems Super Meat Boy, Bit. Trip Runner, Jamestown, Shank and Nightsky, as well as Cave Story + and Gratuitous Space Battles for paying more than the average selling price.

Today, the folks behind the bundle announced that they've added a new batch of games for anyone who pays more than the average price, which is currently at a mere $5.16. So in addition to those seven games, you'll get Crayon Physics Deluxe, Cogs, VVVVVV, Hammerfight, and And Yet It Moves. So, a bunch of games from the last Humble Bundle tacked on to an already killer lineup.

Need more incentive to pick this up? (Seriously? You do? Wow. You are demanding.) Okay then, you'll also get the soundtracks for every game thrown in for free.

I'm not sure what could make this deal more appealing. Maybe if they like… deliver you a pie, to your door. And give you a back massage while you eat it. Before dusting and re-threading the cables behind your TV.

And Yet It Moves

And Yet it Moves and Four More Indie Games go Cheap for CharityAnd Yet It Moves, Crayon Physics Deluxe, Cogs, Hammerfight and VVVVVV just went on sale...for however much you feel like paying.

Wolfire's Humble Indie Bundle is back with five more critically acclaimed indie games to draw out your inner philanthropist. Crayon Physics Deluxe, Hammerfight and VVVVVV will all be making their Mac and Linux debuts and Cogs will be showing up on Linux for the first time.

Head over to HumbleBundle.com and name your own price, then split up the donation as you see fit between Child's Play, the Electronic Frontier Foundation or the developers. Previous Humble Indie Bundles have raised over $1 million for charity.

The games seperately would cost around $50, making the current average donation of $9.68 a steal, but why not donate a little more if you can? Just whatever you do, please don't pirate it.

And Yet It Moves

More demos of WiiWare games are coming — finally. But they're still only going to be offered for a limited time and won't be for all titles.

Nintendo Getting Better With Its WiiWare Demos, But Not Nailing It YetFor several years, Nintendo has been selling some terrific downloadable games in its WiiWare store: World of Goo, Thru-Space, Swords & Soldiers, Art Style: Light Trax, and plenty more for around $5 or $10. But buyers have had to beware, because Nintendo has offered few free demos of these games, a striking contrast to Microsoft, which offers free demos of every one of its downloadable Xbox Live Arcade games.

In a press release today, Nintendo took its biggest step yet to improve its WiiWare store by saying that it will offer a new round of WiiWare demos — the first time it has done so in many months — next week, on Nov. 22. The starting line-up includes And Yet It Moves, Jett Rocket, Bit.Trip.Fate and ThruSpace. (I haven't played Jett Rocket, but I can vouch for the other three as being well worth a try.)

All's not perfect here. The good/bad news from Nintendo is that "dditional demos will be added on Mondays and each will remain available on the Wii Shop Channel for a limited time."

Why not demos for all games? And why not keep them available forever?

At least it's an improvement. Enjoy those demos.

And Yet It Moves

If you only download one WiiWare title in your Wii-owning lifetime, this week's release of indie PC game And Yet It Moves from developer Broken Rules would be a damn fine choice.

Released last year on the PC, And Yet It Moves is a puzzle platformer in which the player navigates a world made of torn paper that can be rotated 360 degrees, with physics adjusting appropriately with each move. Say you're standing on a cliff with a sheer wall next to you. Jump, rotate the world, and suddenly that cliff becomes a floor.

The Wii version of the game features four new levels and several Wii remote-centric methods of rotating the world, all for 1,000 Wii points, which is a complete steal.

There are other games this week, as you can see below, but if you've not yet played And Yet It Moves, you should ignore those until you do.

And Yet It Moves

And Yet It Moves Makes Sense On WiiThere I am playing Wii games, the games I'm writing about all day today, and a Nintendo rep asks me if I want to play a WiiWare game. Sure, I love the weird stuff.

WiiWare, folks, is all about the weird stuff. Games about giving vegetables haircuts. Games about throwing pairs of people onto cubes. Games about lines that race other lines.

On a Monday in August we will get the somewhat less weird Wii version of And Yet It Moves. The 2D platformer is already available for purchase on PC ($10).

It's got a trailer too:

But let me describe the Wii version for you a little. You want to run the man to a goal. (Hold the Wii Remote a its short ends and use the d-pad) You can make him jump. (Use the 2 button). This is key: You can freeze the world and rotate it (Hold down the 1 button and tilt the Wii Remote).

Let's just say you were walking to a wall. Not in the game. In real life. Imagine jogging toward that wall, actually, and leaping at it. Then imagine the world pausing and rotating under your feet so that the wall was now below you, the former floor now a wall behind you. Unpause. You land on the new floor, the former wall toward which you leaped. But what if there had been a boulder leaning on the former floor behind you.... when the world rotated it would now be above you, falling toward your head. Maybe the world should be rotated again?

That, as far as I could tell, is the essence of And Yet It Moves. I'd missed it on PC. I like how it controls on the Wii. Look for it as a WiiWare download in August.

Next up in today's series... Kong.
