Three years after the initial release of the Sword of the Stars: The Pit, Kerberos Productions is celebrating with a sixth and final Pit DLC, Medic!
In Medic, you will brave the perils of the Pit as Astryd Jemison - the 12th player character in the series - a SolForce Medic racing against time to save the people of Arbuda IV from a raging epidemic. Trained as both a medical doctor and an armed combatant, she has come to the Feldspar Mountains looking for the source of the deadly Xombie Plague.
Sword of the Stars: The Pit is a fun, fast, light-hearted action RPG, made in the tradition of Rogue and other old school dungeon-diving games. Set in the popular Sword of the Stars universe, it delivers a rich backdrop and modern gameplay.
“We are humbled and continually amazed by the fans of the series.” Martin Cirulis, Kerberos CEO and designer of The Pit. “As ever, we are happy to show that The Pit always has new challenges to offer players.”
“As our first Indie title, we are quite proud of The Pit and the place its earned in the Roguelike genre. We could not have done it without our fans and everyone that supported the game.” Said Kerberos COO Christopher Stewart. “The release of the Medic DLC on The Pit’s 3rd anniversary is the perfect place to wrap things up for this incarnation of the game and start looking to the future of the series.”
Besides the new playable character class, Medic includes new enemies, new items, new weapons and armor, as well as new recipes and achievements!
The Necromancer DLC for The Pit is out and players are going head to head with the most unique character class since the Liir addition in the MindGames expansion. As well, we updated the rest of the series to feature a few undead enemy creatures!

Yes, it's the most wonderful time of the year, even on Arbuda IV.
The Zuul captured some very incautious carolers, psionically devoured their yuletide cheer, and as a result even the inhabitants of the Pit have gotten into the spirit of the season. This has compelled the Zuul to leave wrapped presents under brightly decorated trees - the foolish slave-apes' holiday rituals were easily mastered by the Bloodweaver's favored children!
But something has stolen all the gifts they'd left - if you can find them, maybe you can score some sweet loot, including new Christmas-related recipes and achievements. But only for a limited time, so load up The Pit today!
Everything in the Pit still wants you dead. Happy Holidays!
No really. The Pit is filled with Turkeys. Well, the area just outside The Pit. But there are a lot of them. And they are delicious. If you've ever worried about food as you dive down into The Pit, this long weekend (starting today) is a good day to jump in, fill your pack with poultry, and give it your best shot.
"Hey, turkey's are dangerous, I remember them from last year!"
Don't worry, these wild turkey's haven't had to survive in The Pit. They can't hurt you. In fact, they may want to be eaten.
Also, some other boring minor tweaks were made, but really, this is the best part and the only part you need to know about.
Good hunting and good luck! Have a great weekend everyone!
The Pit gets a treat filled Halloween update as part of Steam's Halloween Sale!
Besides being able to pick up The Pit Gold (which contains the base game and the first two DLC expansions) for 75% off (upgrade to Gold at 50% off), The Pit has been updated with some Halloween treats, including two new achievements;
Pumpkin King - Carve a Fear Lantern
Army of Darkness - Kill 100 Zuul Ghouls!
Haven't found the recipe for crafting a Fear Lantern? It's been out since last Halloween, but if you want to get down to carving instead of hacking consoles, here's the recipe;
pumpkin + sparker + scent gland + razorteeth
And for one week, the upper layers of The Pit will give you ample Ghoul targets - don't panic, stay calm, conserve your ammo, aim for the head. The achievements will remain, so don't worry if you don't manage to get this this week.
The Pit: Juggernaut introduces Pit fans to a new playable character, the Tarka mercenary, Tor. The Juggernaut DLC adds new weapons and weapon variants, new items, new monsters, and over 50 new craft recipes, including ammo conversion recipes! Found lots of ammo, but for the wrong gun? There’s a recipe for that. The addition of Tor brings the number of player characters in the series to 11!
“After all the other characters we tossed into The Pit”, Said producer Christopher Stewart. “Fans were keen to play as a Tarkas changed male, one of the largest and most powerful characters in the SotSverse, and our loremaster Arinn Dembo was more than happy to oblige.”
Note: The Juggernaut DLC requires The Pit: Gold to play. It does not require The Pilgrim DLC.
Mac and Linux depots builds will be available Friday, September 26th.
Filling out the alien character types found in the Sword of the Stars universe comes The Pit: Juggernaut - take control of a massive, changed Tarka male,Tor Makari, a clanless mercenary, born on the Tarka Freehold of Kor Daia. Summoned to Arbuda by the promise of a huge reward, he is here to rescue a kidnapped Human from a high-security alien facility and pull down the biggest bounty of his career. As a changed male, Tor is big, bad, and do not let his lumbering manner fool you - he is no dummy. He is a force to be reckoned with, nigh unstoppable. He is a... JUGGERNAUT!
Yesterday we formally announced that Sword of the Stars: The Pit was a full Steamplay title. The Mac version had been out for awhile, and the Linux version was available the last few weeks, but we wanted to knock some bugs out before telling the world. Which we did, formally, yesterday.
We then went on to say that the Pilgrim DLC, the content addition to the game that followed the Gold edition, would be available soon.
Turns out that "soon" meant "tomorrow". But who's complaining, right?
So, if you own a copy of the Pilgrim DLC, you can now apply it to your Mac and Linux, as well as PC version of the game!
Good luck! Try not to get killed before floor ten!
With its initial release as a Steam PC title, Kerberos made it clear they would be porting Sword of the Stars: The Pit to Mac and Linux as scheduling allowed.
While the Mac version was added earlier in the Summer, Linux is now included, making The Pit: Gold a Steamplay title!
Those who have previously purchased The Pit will find they now have the option of installing the two additional formats on their Mac and Linux machines.
"We appreciate the patience of our fans as we worked towards including the Mac and Linux platforms. We've used this opportunity to improve our development, by keeping Mac and Linux in mind from the start, which is why Ground Pounders launched as a Steamplay title." said Kerberos Producer Christopher Stewart. "We look forward to all our titles being Steamplay titles."
