The terrible tragedy of cheery naval combat knees-up Leviathan Warships was that it presented a wonderful scenario it failed to deliver on. That scenario was jazz and honeyed narration in a memetastic trailer, only for such things to be entirely absent from the game proper. This terrible oversight has now been corrected – a new patch for Paradox’s game adds Jazz Mode for reals. (more…)

The world of gaming moves so fast that writing about Leviathan: Warships feels like an act of retro-archaeology. It came out almost a month ago, which makes it positively ancient in the grand scheme of things, but I’ve been so busy swabbing the poop deck that I’ve only just found time to gather my thoughts.>

Leviathan: Warships 1.1 Changelog
We have been working on a new patch for Leviathan: Warships and this is the change log. We are currently planning on releasing the patch at the end of next week (around May 30-31). Here are the changes:

1. Added Jazz Mode featuring Jazzy Boatman!
-More details coming soon!

2. The user interface now scales to properly support high-resolution screens. This should fix the issues Nexus 10 and Mac retina displays have with a tiny GUI.

3. UI
3.1. In-game typing sound effect removed
3.2. Ships are now re-selected after targeting orders have been placed

4. Post effects (PC/MAC only)
4.1. Anti-Aliasing added
4.2. Bloom effect added

5. Gameplay
5.1.Ship prices balance pass
5.1.1. Cost raised on Shortfin, Stingray & Spearhead
5.1.2. Cost lowered on Buzzer, Destroyer, Bullycruiser, Overlord, Atlas & Dreadnought
5.2 Existing player accounts might receive invalid fleet sizes on existing fleets because of this. New Accounts will not be affected by these changes.
5.3.1 Beam guns can now destroy mines
5.3.2 Artillery and Rocket splash damage fixed
5.3.3 Artillery and Rockets balanced
5.3.4 Railgun autofire removed from campaign ships

6. Added the ability to reorder the ships in the shipyard
7. Winner/Loser status in the battle bar removed during replays. Why ruin all the excitement?
8. Matchmaking now saves the latest setup
9. More symbols allowed in passwords
10. Leviathan 1 & Leviathan 2 servers now available for tablet versions
11. Increased server stability
12. Fixed so Campaign planning timer does not reset to default value between missions
13. Improved shipyard zoom scroll on tablets

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Because of all the changes done to the gameplay existing replays may no longer work with the next patch. We recommend that you archive your existing replays using tools like Fraps if you want to watch them again.

If only all games were so easily summarized.

Not a nu-jazz trailer, though, thankfully. I don’t think the world’s ready for that. But are you, dear, patient reader, ready for more absolutely dire (aka wonderful) boat puns? Delivered in a soulful yet nonchalant vocal style that will make you rethink your choice of Morgan Freeman or Brian Blessed at the next god election? Of course you are. Is that even an actual question? And so, the best trailer in recent gaming memory has unfurled the sails on a follow-up. Oh, and also I guess Paradox’s Leviathan: Warships is out now, if that sort of thing floats your boat. Ugh, apologies for that one. What is it up here? Amateur hour? I can’t even look at myself right now. See a real> professional in action after the break.
