At first I installed it for the puzzles. When I first opened the game, I couldn't stop myself from whistling along to the intro music. And then it was only better.
The atmosphere of the game is admirable. The music and sounds are nice and not distracting, graphics are nice to watch. The world is wide and there's plenty to do - you can sail on different kinds of voyages, run a workshop, take care of your house. Things are generally cutomizable, starting at your clothes and ending at your ship, when you earn enough for one. The variety of puzzels is wide enough not to get bored. Your character is constantly developing and you can see the progress as your reputation and trophy board grow. And last but not least, people. There are gamers of all ages and from all corners of the world, so for kid's sake there are some manners enforced, but not to the point where it could destroy the "piratness" of the atmosphere. Players are generally helpful, newbies can ask any question and get a solid answer.
The only minus are doubloons. In game you earn Pieces of Eight which are used to buy things. Problem is that you also have to pay a fee in doubloons, which is usually 3-4 times higher than the prize of an item itself. You can exchange PoE for them, but the course is really high - about 3000:1, when on an average pillying you earn a bit less than that. Or... you can buy them for green cash. So if you decide to start the game, be prepared that either you'll pay, or spend the first week of playing on earning for a decent bed. Despite that, you can still play quite freely if you're just there for the puzzels and sailing.
