Warning: NO LONGER MULTIPLAYER.....
Or so that's how it feels till end game.

Use to be a great game.
It really was.
But that was a while ago..
Don't get me wrong, i played a LOOOOT on a non-steam account.

F2P till like rank 6-7.
No end game content.

You need a grinding stone fetish to get anything quality in this game now.

The game has officially died somewhere in 2014.
That was like 3 years ago.

It's on steam for a reason.
"Revival".

It didn't work.

Hope this was easily enlightening.

Alot of my friends seem to be getting back into this curiously, so I'm going to make a review of what I think.

Spiral Knights is an MMORPG.. Thing. If you're like me, that means people with too much money watching anime and buying "Sooper instant upgrayd DLC STARTER PACK!!!11!!"

And you're right. SK has that, too. But to a much lesser extent.

You'll see these dudes running around in full dragon armor with flying dragon pets and think, "Holy ballsacks, this dude just blew $250 on this game, yeah?" But no, you can get those easily and pretty early in the game. This game rewards skilled players in a way I personally love. It's so satisfying to see a person who paid to get all his ♥♥♥♥ and being bored out of his mind and then seeing yourself PLAYING the game and HAVING FUN.

This game is %500 better with friends. You get 3 friends and start rushing these rooms, you're gonna have a blast.

You can either use guns or swords in this game, or use both, whatever floats your boat. It makes for fun varying play styles.

All in all, this game is a blast with friends, it's good to play it in waves because it can get kinda stale running room after room, but it's always fun to come back to.

Plus I mean, cmon, it's a free game where you can fight skeletons and ghosts with guns as a knight.

Ah....this game..the memories.
Spiral Knights was a wonderful game many years ago (2012, 2013). There were so many players, many guilds, amazing new events and just a lovely family. I may not of played this game that much, but i've had enough to get the experience of it. It really made me a happy person. The designing of your character was one of the best unique features in this game. Anyway, I went off for a bit, and came back and everything went dead. The leading top guild died... (The Umpire), events became repetitive, everything was becoming a "pay money for this" kind of thing. If you are to go on it nowadays, there are maybe MAX two guilds in the whole game still alive...and there are either only the poor or rich players. Lockdown (PVP) has died completely as everyone has left...the game has pretty much died completely. The Auction House where people buy the things and people sell has completely died too.. I miss it and i'm sure alot of other people do too. Don't play it, there is no point.

I would really like to be able to promote this game, but I can't. If it was about 2+ years ago I could, but that is not the case.

First thing, do not be mislead by my amount of hours played. I started SK before it was brought to Steam, and refused to link my main account to my Steam account due to perpetual connectivity issues between the two. I have more hours logged on SK than I have on Terraria and Mincraft combined.

They have changed the tutorial area from when I started, it is admittedly much better now. Has a minor storyline and teaches you how to use your various abilities. The game is much more approachable for newbies. Which is a definite plus. The removal of the energy system to do levels also means that newbies aren't restricted to 10 floors at max before they have to quit for about 24 hours (or pay money). That is all definite pluses.

The issues start about mid-tier, or 3-star gear. 3-star fire crystals and alchemy orbs are incredibly hard to find. Too early and you get 2-star stuff, if you do the boss areas odds are you will get 4-star stuff... and you don't get the recipe to downgrade the 4-star fire crystals to 3-star until AFTER a mision that requires you to level up 3-star gear enough to be in full 4-star gear. This is a minor setback, the big setback is high tier equipment. You need 5-star alchemy orbs and fire crystals for that, and unlike earlier tiers you can not downgrade higher crystals to make them. To fully level a single piece of 5-star equipment is going to cost you 453 fire crystals... or about 50 runs of the boss mission. You have at minimum a shield, 2 weapons, armor, and helmet, at maximum 2 more weapons. So that is a minimum of 250 boss mission runs, or 350 at maximum. And that is just for your starting set of gear.

But they don't want you to grind all that... they want you to buy the crystals. 50 5-star fire crystals costs 700 energy (cash shop currency), which is about 10-12 runs of the boss mission I mentioned, converting in game currency to cash shop currency (via a player run market). AKA NOT CHEAP!

They introduced pets at one point, reworking the mineral system (which originally were used to help influence the dungeons and get you some easy currency as well) into a way to feed and level the pets. There are 3 color pets: red, purple, and yellow. There are 5 colored minerals... 2 of which, blue and green, have absolutely zero use.

There are floors that are just horribly annoying to do, too high difficulty for too little payout. They're nice to experience, but a lot of groups will actively avoid them, to the point of waiting at the elevator at the end of a floor for 10 minutes to avoid such bad floors. Some floors, are amazingly fun. A lot of people hate Candlestick Keep, where an immortal ghost chases you, but I find them fun. Arenas are a blast, along with various other areas. But in comparison you can get Treasure Vaults... which are junk ironically, Compounds that are full of minis and are incredibly annoying, or Fiend floors... which a lot of people despise.

The last constantly available boss was introduced well over 2 years ago. There are minor bosses you can fight once for daily missions, but actual bosses you can just decide to go fight there has not been a new one in ages. There has been more gear added, but it is mostly reskins of other weapons with stat changes. And its hard to level due to the incredibly annoying fire crystal system.

PVP is even worse, it is dominated by people that have quite literally dropped $100s into the game by now. They have the best gear possible, my gear is high end (and I can do fairly well against them) but their stuff puts mine to shame, for the casual player you are just going to get beaten into the ground repeatedly. In addition to that if you don't have accessory slots (cash shop only!) than you are going to be at an even bigger disadvantage as everybody runs with health booster accessories.

On a sadder note, the game is dying. It started when the chief developer left, and now various other devs have as well. At one point it was not uncommon to see a dozen instances of the town going. For one event my guild saw over 70 instances running. Now you are lucky to get 3, and none of them are showing as full.

I really, REALLY want to be able to recommend this game... but I can't, not anymore. I love the art style, it is unique and cute and colorful. I love the music, Candlestick Keep has incredibly creepy but whimsical sounding music, the Wildwoods has beautifully fitting music for how its designed. I greatly like the atmosphere of the game, especially some of the areas created during the game's prime. The Wildwoods look amazing, as much as I dislike Compounds they look fantastic, and the Void is nicely threatening. The combat is fairly balanced in PVE until you hit high end. But I still can't recommend the game. Too many things have changed that just make it not player friendly anymore, and it shows.

Edit: And the game just got bought from Sega by a company called Grey Havens. Hopefully it will be good for the game, but it might be too little too late, only time will tell on that one.

This game stole my soul for a month straight. I must of been drunk or something but I only have good memories of this game. They have ruined this game for me with the recent updates but hey, what do I know. From experience I say this game is worth the $0.00 dollars you pay and you should try it, you just might like it!

Well after 200 hrs of gameplay i think its time to write a review about this game ...

At the beginning its cool, i mean u cannot stop playing it for some reason until u reach Rank 7 omfg ! I mean seriously ? ok look to be honest I love this game, a close friend of mine recommended me this game and look I'm playing it. There is some items that's get a little frustrated to get... some how they ask u to pay and of course make it A LOT of easier to get those items that u need for upgrade ur set, weapons and level up ur rank.

If i recommend this game I say yes, you should at least try but I'm warning u at the beginning is easy to rank up but then it get a lot of harder to level up...

Gameplay 6/10
Storyline 4/10
Graphics ?? are u kidding ? its java xDD

*Sigh* Where to start... okay, this was originally a recommendation but since the past year, this game has gone downhill very quickly and it is bad. The main issues are: The forging system, the lack of new end game content and the constant repeat of events over and over again. Oh, don't forget the constant new gift boxes instead of new end game content... I don't think it will last much longer at this rate.
