This game gets an upvote because it is now a much more acessible free to play game then what it was before. With it's cartoonish and childish grafics, zen music you can still have fun in it by dungeoning wich is basically what i did most. Good for a couple hundred hours on average.
Might be on it's least breaths tho.

This game was in it's prime 3-4 years ago. Must've had over 100 hours before transferring my account over to steam. Then the lead developer (and I think a few others) quit and the game died out. With very few updates (all money related) and only a struggling community left, don't waste your time with this game.

Hey, so no one will read this but I don't realy give a dam. The games beging is awsome but then slowly becomes a grind fest for crowns (In game currency). They did implement the free to play feature very nicely though you can get the vip currency (energy) from crowns so you do not have to spend a single penny to have a good play experince. The community is great ,but the community is very small with few youtubers and anything. The devs have done nothing the pvp is bland missions get repeative and worse of all i feel as though they missed a huge payload from not progarming diffrent spirets into the game mabey put in a feature where you can wacth a video for 1 energy or equivelent crowns. Make it so missions are not repeative i am shure no player will mind the changes to older missons maby a mode where you have to only shoot bombs to defeat enemys because you are traped with only a VERY WEAK gun. make a youtube chanel for gods sake ask the people what they want do they want this or this. make a poll and if you are holding on to this game because only very minimal profet off the game add new features or hand it off to someone who cares for the game! You can make 1 v 1 combat for certans 1 star 2 star 3star 4satr 5 star or a gamemode where you can make the map SOMETHING YOU LAZY &%RE^#R%T$#&$#*&%#$&%#$&%#$*&%&#$%&$#%&#$&^#$&%#$(EQ@W(@!#$%*

Fun. Addicting. Keeps you occupied during boring moments and times of the day. Plus, battle sprites are so CUTEEEEE! And my character is having great progress. Though my only problem is that luminite is very rare. I barely can even craft food for my flying kitty! (I FORGOT THE NAME) Though, apart from that, great game.

So, lets get started!
1. i got banned TWICE this week because people dont get jokes but rather understand them as straight offenses.
2. the community is so poisonous and sensitive that youll get reported after saying pretty much any slang term.
3. the added content is usually a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ prize box that costs you 5$ and doesnt pay off, sure, the "Core" missions were added, but what now? what do we do after we entered the core? play some ♥♥♥♥♥♥ LD where all that matters is how many UV you got? oh btw! 4!
4. The PVP in this game has so much cancer, i can litterally feel the tumors growing on my back, you have to spend days of grinding in order to get the right UV's and enough CE to buy trinket and weapon slots.
5. My favourite part... EVERYONE'S FAVOURITE PART, the mother ♥♥♥♥ing fire crystals and alchemy orbs, NIQQA, youll have to spend a few weeks of your life to get all that heat, shining fire crystals and eternal orbs, sur eyou can buy a heat modifier!!!!! and i bought one!! :D gotta say it works amazing!! oh wait... NO IT DOESNT BECAUSE I GOT ♥♥♥♥ING BANNED AND THIS ♥♥♥♥ WILL GET EXPIRED.
6. they make rules like dont swear, dont offend, dont do ♥♥♥♥ or youll get ♥♥♥♥ing banned you ♥♥♥, but tehy dont make a rule that says "dont beg for 10kcr orbs, no one is that stupid to give you these you ♥♥♥♥ing lazy ♥♥♥ go play the ♥♥♥♥ing game and get money if you want the orbs" and once again, this brings me to number 5, the orbs litterally look like ♥♥♥♥ing tumors, and they cost a ♥♥♥♥ ton.
7. CE, now this little part is debatable, the CE prices went from the good ol' 4kcr/100CE to a nice 11kcr/100CE and thats just cancer.

in conclussion, this game is cancer, legit cancer.

to all of the grammar nazis and ♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥ You.

I have mixed opinions on this game and that means I'm somewhat not reccomending this to you and sort of am.

The good :
-It's a fun time waster and it's good for playing with friends.
-combat is simple and fun.
-the community is alright but toxic at the same time.
The bad :
-No one seems to be playing on missions, or other game modes that's not pvp.
-Most of the stuff you have to grind for hours to get or you have to spend money on it.
-The Devs are nothing but cash grabbing fiends.

And that's all I have to say about this once beautifully made game, yet killed by it's own devs.
Rest in piece my good game.
:^(

If the three guys who bought the rights to this game ever read this–please open a forum or page open for ideas from players. Sega failed because they let this game's firey heart dwindle to a small, yet precious flame. Personally, I too like many other reviewers have made good friends through this game. I too miss the partymember half-life-give-revive. This game has potential. If there is at least new gear and new missions and events added, (I know it's alot right XD lol) this game could be just as thriving and popular as it used to be. To those wondering if they should play–yes, you should. I don't know whether this game will continue to exist or not, but even if it's for a short while–it's worth it all. It's a practically an mmo and an mmorpg. Go make memories.

This game use to be good..until they did the rework on energy/heat level up a long time ago. The ability to not revive the other player by using your hp was the cherry on top that destroy the game for me. I did not write a review. I am writting one now because I miss the game, but I want the developper to do some change (unless they already did some, in this case, feel free to leave a comment in this review)

until those change are not reverted, I will leave a negative reviews

This game is really fun to play, really, it has a lot a dungeons, a lot of itens, tons of skills, swords, guns and more.
But life is not a bed of roses...If you really want to play it you got to buy energy(yes, with money) to play more, it does not allow you to play very long, because you need energy to do most things. So if you are willing to spend some money to play.
I`d rather buy the game as much as i like than play a free game that impose you to buy things to play more =/

I haven't been playing for a long time, I started in March 2016, but I'll give you guys the gist. Spiral Knights is said to be dying since one of the lead developers quit, but it's still a fun game. There are a few bugs here and there, but the game itself is still completely functionable. Like most communities, the SK community has the obnoxious, young teenage group, and the helpful bunch. Overall, it's an addicting game, but it can be frustrating sometimes.

Big piece of hell, annoying to play.

I have to wonder if a large scale Javascript-coded game was ever functionnal, because the enemies in this hump act unbelievably odd outside of their "normal" behaviour, making it rather unfun and tedious.

Stuff teleports sometimes, so as myself, who by then didn't know I was going to appear before enemies that also just appeared on the spot. Attack range seems nonexistant, since I would avoid attacks, but get hit full blast, even with the shield up.

Have to precise that I've been playing solely in singleplayer, so these problems aren't even from online lag, which I'd say would be even worse.

I wish I could've cared about some of the mechanics, such as the crafting and leveling, but I just can't gather the materials, nor care, if the above keeps happening.

A Spiral Knights Review

First things first, I loved this game. I still do. Love its' artstyle, the design, the unique atmosphere, and all my friends who have supported me through these 4 years in the game. and the 5035 hours oh my ****ing god!
One thing that hasn't changed during the years is the artstyle and all the crazy cool new (and cute) stuff that has been added into the game. The community is mostly nice, apart from a few rotten apples. The artwork that has been made based on this game is enthralling at least. The epic moments when battling a boss with a bunch of friends via a voice chat system is a thing to remember even after many years.

Even though all these fun times, I am obliged to quit this game.
"But why, Dreff? You said that you'll never quit this game ever!
    Forge
  • Okay so in the old times, your gear would gain heat which levels them up after the heat bar is filled to the max. You only had to get in the clockworks and play, and after the level was completed, you'd get heat and if the bar got filled, the weapon leveled up. Now you need to upgrade with Fire Crystals. Reason why it is so annoying is because it is really going to limit your weapon upgrading to the ones that you really want to have level 10. The game also urges you to spend your pennies on fire crystals to level your gear up faster.

    Pay 2 win?
  • I've spent a horrendous amount of money on this game. Most of my purchases I made for this game to show my support and maybe get some cool items along the way. A fair time ago you obtained prize boxes via a normal energy purchase. I really liked that, you'd only get a couple of boxes along with a purchase but you'd get that energy along. Then the system was changed so that you couldn't get boxes along for free via an energy purchase. This is the one reason why the energy prices in game are so high.

    Energy Price in-game
  • You can pay in game via a direct change of X crowns into 100 energy, or sell 100 energy for X crowns. The prices used to be static 5000cr which was pretty cheap. The current prices are double as much. One of the reasons for this is that people don't buy any Energy with real money anymore. During an event, you could get boxes along energy purchases. Most of the people sold their energy via the Energy Trade system in the game (Post offers to sell/buy energy for x amount of crowns) Nowadays it's a pretty static 9k-10k crowns to get 100 energy.

    Furthermore
  • Another thing which causes players not to buy ce directly is because you can get way more energy with other virtual currencies, such as tf2 keys. The least amount of energy you can buy in SK with real money is 750e. It costs about 2,40€, basically slightly more than a tf2 key would cost me, (currently 2,20€ per tf2 key) If you sell those keys to a player you found in-game or via the forums, you'd get 2000e/key. More than 2x energy than buying it in-game. Awesome, right?

    Less challenging & other
  • In the older times, there weren't many of the new additions, such as the Battle Sprites, Dash & Shield Bash, etc. I think these along with some other things have made the game a lot more easier than before. I personally enjoyed the difficulty, perhaps the ridiculous stacking revive costs with energy were a bit too much though. But, when you ran with a party, you could run next to a fallen party member, revive them for the cost of half of your own health. It made the game interesting to play with a party, since there was no way you could pay energy prices every time you died. You could also drop health pills if your team had none and desperately in need of some delicious pills, which made co-working together important and it stiched people together.

    The Core
  • Aight, the big one. Cherry on top of the cake. You delved every time down to the clockworks, fighting monsters and grabbing that loot. Once you ventured all the way to the bottom, there was this mysterious thing called... The Core. First time I made it into the core I was just thinking that what on earth could be inside that thing? Valuables? Maybe a whole new series of levels, insanely difficult but rewarding at the same time? None of those I am afraid... Just... White space. Me and so many others were so excited about it! This could have been such a potential for new, intriguing missions to do, new content that would last for a fair amount of time. Sigh.

    Inactivity
  • Sigh. I've had a ton of cool friends in-game that I played actively with, got to know better and who helped me during my tough times. No, I wasn't just seeking acceptance from randoms online, some of my closest of friends helped me during my darkest of hours It's a shame that people are quitting the game, I've lost 100 or so people from my friends list, some of which I didn't really even get to say goodbye to. Now, some of my friends will go through the same, as I leave without saying farewell or anything.

Farewell,
-Dreff

Spiral Knights is a great game. Mechanically it plays well. It has very interesting and rich lore. The enemies are creative and inventive. All of the art is pleasant to look at and very well detailed. The cooperative play is great and even has voice communication. This game has changed a lot since it came out and most of the changes were positive. They have added a ton of content that repeatedly pulled me back in from other games that I moved to.

The game no longer sees these huge updates. The caring support and community inclusion is no longer there. With the departure of senior developers and the management of Sega has left the game as a cash-grab at best. It has become a money sink with no real reason to put money into it. Most users quickly learn this and the playerbase has been on a steady rotation for some time.

I used to love this game and it is still definitely the game that I loved, but without bringing in drastically new content it has stagnated and can no longer hold my interest. New players be warned.
