Awesome, very underrated game. The world has a great feeling that doesn't let you leave.

The negative reviews are due to Atari shutting down the servers for it, but back in its day, it was a great game.

great game back when it worked - atari shut down the servers and deleted all profiles.
this game has:

-a huge map in a nice setting
-very detailed models (including interieurs)
-nice sound
-some quite challenging jobs

it is really a shame they shut down this project.
Forza Horizon 3 tries to create the same feeling, but doesn't really accomplish that mellow, relaxing, but also challenging gameplay

9/10

I adored the first TDU. Hooning about Hawaii.

When I got TDU2, I was quite happy. That changed when I started playing.

Granted, it's open world. Granted, the scenery and the vehicle renderings are good. However, I don't have a steering wheel. I play with a joypad. And it took me ages to actually set the damn thing up to work as near as possible correctly. Once I'd done that, then the game became pretty decent.

I enjoy the idea of passing the tests for various vehicle classes before you can proceed with various races to ultimately win the Solar Crown. Some of the races can prove challenging, so it's not all just a hoon about.

Mooching around Ibiza and the jaunt to Hawaii, gives ample opportunity to find various vehicle dealers, small side quests, outfitters, hair dressers, plastic surgeon, real estate agents, and vehicle upgrade sites, both cosmetic and mechanic.

The other racers in the game, that form the people you're pitted against are generally planks. Even though it's a game, there's a real sense of "I'm up here becuase I'm freakin fabulous, you're just a nothing", and it all seems to be about image. Hence the reason for the outfitters, hairdressers and plastic surgeon. Which I feel is ironic for a driving game.

Graphically, it's very pretty, and the rendering internally of vehicle is quite good, although I wish the dash binnacle worked properly, not just the speedo and tacho.

There's a good few MODs out there, and availability to add other, non stock vehicles to your garage is quite good. There's no Lamborghinis for example in the stock game.

Apart from the initial niggles, TDU2 is a decent driving game, with lots of exploration, a decent choice of motors and a good place to while away many hours.

This game at release had so many issues. The fact is, this game looked great when viewing videos and screenshots or artwork. But when it came to playing the game, there was always something to bug you. After several patches leading upto the game before Atari shutdown teams that worked on such projects, the game slowly died but fan's tried hard to keep it a-float. Infact, the fan base was the only thing that kept this game alive.

Now, the game is full of cheaters, hackers and modders. There is no technical support or admins. The hackers can ram you full speed and won't be knocked over, only you will go flying. Just one of the many bad things that commonly happen now. Oh, & thats if you're lucky enough to even get this game working. I bought this game for my friends, was it install & play? No, infact, it was so fustrating that both my friends gave up and only me and one friend got to truily test this game out.

From my experience, the open world was a great idea, the level up system, cash system & club system was very exciting. All of this if you're lucky to get it to work. And if you can't get the launcher to do it's thing, the next big issue you'll probly have is registration and trying to connect to the server.

I simply CANNOT say BUY this game, as it's not worth the hassle. I do say however, avoid at all costs. The game will soon be terminated and i'm glad I got to experience this game first hand before it turned to the largest pile of rubbish I've seen by far.

Sound FX is good, only two radio stations and no custom radio support. (Fake radio stations) Graphics were also good for it's time. The first Person view is also nice. Some aspects really catch you're eyes and other aspect ruin you're experience completly.

Now lets get to some more dirt. If you and a friend is lucky enough to even get it working together, once in the game, you'll be lucky to even see one another as both vanish and sometimes, only you can see your friend while your friend can't see you or the other way around, very fustrating when you want to free drive open world with friends.

The good things about this game is actually not as much as you'd think. Logo's offical, the open world, huge, drivng physics, not the best. But when it comes to cup races or setting up events or local races, this seemed to work well. Cups are Singleplayer, not Multiplayer so some things within the game step on the M.O.O.R they claimed it to be. With all the problems, and the time and effort I had to put into this game made me not wanna recommend or suggest this game to anyone after my bad experiences with it.

When the community offers you mods, unoffical pacthes, fixes, or cheats, you ahould clue-in & know there is a problem with this game. Also, you want to sit in you're friend car? you can do this, only if you are GREEN for UPNP and ports, if NAT is red, you simply might not be-able to play. In other words, the less security you have, the better chances you have at playing. And trust me, this was no easy task for people with tight security. lol

I honestly couldn't recommend this game even in 2012 after I did actual recommend it to friends, after that, my opinion on this game had changed. I still help people to get this game working and thats the most fustrating problem about this game. Some users are lucky and get it working first try, guess what, it means you are not protected as well as you think & are open for attacks, and if you allow the ports, and the launcher still says NAT in red, this means you're networking hub / router isn't as secure or protective as you think allowing open connections once in a while. So those who are happy about it working without the hassle are actually in deep trouble if they were to surf the net. lol

Anyways, Here is my results.

Graphics: 6.0
SouundFX: 6.0
Gameplay: 6.0
Multiplayer FunFactor: 5.0
SIngleplayer FunFactor: 6.5 (First time I ever did this one lol)

Total rating: 5.5

Game is fun and I'd definetely recommend it if the servers weren't constantly down. It's a joke.
Either the server's are down or the site is down or both. Dlc in a game you can't even play most of
the time because the servers are down. Also you can't purchase the dlc as it's only purchaseable with frickin Atari coins, which of course you get via their site. And the site is down.
When finally some dude at atari decides to check the servers and put them online, the game is quite fun
and yeah when it was released it was great. But now? No. Just no. Atari doesn't give a damn about their
prior products and customers. So not recommended at all to buy now. Just because you can't play it half of the time.

The best racing game I have ever played, and probably ever will play (unless someone releases a sequel or something similar to this).

Let me start off by first saying: yes this game definitely has its problems. It can also sometimes take quite a bit of work to get it going. I cannot guarantee that it'll be worth it for some players because everyone has their own idea of what they want from a game like this. The reason I say this is because for the main part it doesn't do a whole lot of new things especially when it comes to racing but the way it blends it all together is for sure something really nice with the social and living open world aspect to it, it can really draw you in. I often became indulged upon just roaming around the streets in my favourite car discovering new places, unlocking things & finding collectibles especially because of the encouragement you're given by the leveling system to do so. This isn't anything particularly unique now however and may wear off quick if you've already done these in similar games. Being able to buy your own house, customise and roam around in it as you please including admiring your car collection in the garage definitely added a lot to the game and makes it that little bit special even if you didn't end up spending all that much time in it.

People complain about the servers but I honestly never had many issues with them (instant challenges worked fine but proper multiplayer races I never managed to get working, not sure whether it's possible or not) I struggled to get the game launched more often. Sometimes it'd decide to launch other times it didn't and I often found restarting your PC would do the trick if it refused to launch multiple times in a row. Other problems included: pink tyre marks, performance issues (which I found could be weirdly fixed by tabbing out when loading and tabbing back in again), DLC or the verification servers not working at times so literally anyone could play the DLC whether they've purchased it or not (best fault ever?) & some cars driving would be kinda glitchy. I also found the cars in some classes were a lot superior to others meaning you could either buy the best one or suffer with the rest (especially in A1) this is just my opinion however and I know many would probably disagree.

If you're willing to put the effort in to make this game work and are a fan of open world racers I'd say give it a shot. I got real addicted to this game for a few weeks. (I'm using Win7, based on what I've read I think it may be harder to get it running in OS like Win10).

I've never played such a great racing game as tdu2. The physics aren't in arcade style like nfs games, and also not simulation, it is somewhere between. Every car handles different. There are more than 100 different vehicles (including dlc) and 3 dlc motorbikes. But tdu2 is not only racing game. You can explore 2 beautiful islands with hundreds of roads, socialize with friends and also visit a casino (dlc). Only Atari and their servers are lowering this game's rating.

Map 10/10
Driving physics 9/10
Casino DLC 9/10
Graphics 8,5/10
Sounds 8/10
SinglePlayer Story 6/10
Servers+Atari support 3/10

Overall 8/10

Ugh, I must of have some deluded fantasies of what Test Drivde Unlimited 1 was like.

This game was fun... It had most of the components that made TDU1 ok, but it just doesn't feel as sexy as TDU did. They also have less cars and more invasive DLC. That's probably the worst aspect.

All that being said, I actually still enjoyed it. I didn't get far at all (which is amazing since I think I have like 40 hours) so the game is long as hell. It's also frustrating as hell (annoying collision system).

Nonetheless, this gameplay is basically Test Drive Unlimited 1, it's just that they tweaked all the original rules (cops, races, stores, etc). I think the game itself is still good but all of rule tweeks were bad. I almost would just prefer they remastered the original rather than give us a sequel.

Dont be fooled about how many hours i have on here, im max rank on 360 and what i can say is tdu2 and tdu are the best racing games ever made when they where in there prime. Sadly i can really play on pc because my laptop is to bad but if you want multiplayer for this game youll have to play on consol but this game works fine for singal player so if your looking one of the top racing games in the world just remember that this game is not supported anymore so any truble you may have with it, please dont let it make this game look worse then what it was.
