I'm a big fan of driving games, whether it be GRID, Forza, Gran Turismo... you name it I've played it.

Test Drive Unlimited 2 got a lot of bad ratings from companies, but they never understood what it was made for. It wasn't designed for racing, yeah it had a racing storyline on the side, but coming from TDU1, it was all about driving around a beautiful island with your friends calmly and enjoying the scenery.

So if you are looking for a game where you drive to 3 million miles an hour crashing at every corner, go play need for speed. But if you're looking for that one game you actually enjoy doing nothing but driving around on... this is for you.

Most underated driving game of all time.
If I had to choose my most favorite driving game... this would be No. 1.

ps. dont be fooled by the small amount of hours I have on steam, I have over 500 on my xbox.

Far from competitive with it's rivals, but great in it's own way

This game has suffered from generally bad reviews and in some cases it really deserves it.
Yet in other cases it is great.
In TDU2, you start off as an ordinary parking valet. But you fall asleep inside one of your customer's Ferrari, and she gets quite mad about it. She then tells you to drive her to a TV studio and introduces the player to a racing league called Solar Crown.
Right here you notice the story is not the best, indeed very generic and it doesn't appear like Eden took much time developing voice acting either, everyone speaks with such a generic tone to it.

From here you can freely explore the island of Ibiza, which is big. Really big. There is alot of different things to see in Ibiza, from deserts to villages to cities. There is always one road left to discover.
And then you can also unlock Hawaii, so there is quite alot of roads to drive on.
You can also go off-roading, which brings me to the car selection of the game.
If you compare to Gran Turismo, or Forza, you will quickly notice there are less cars here.
And if that was not enough, Atari put DLC cars that you have to buy with real money in regular dealerships, just to tease you.
Still, there is a reasonably good amount of cars in TDU2, and when you buy one from the factory you can change interior, colour and rims.

There is also another game mechanic, police chases. Behave badly, and Ibiza 5-0 will be after you.
Though police cars tend to simply ram you from the front, so it isn't much of a chase, more like a demolition derby funded by tax money. Patrol cars will be deployed a bit ahead of you, at corners and turns, which can be annoying in cities.
When chased, you can see all nearby units on your radar, which helps alot. You can even hear the police radio chatter, though it is nowhere near what you hear in GTA. Also police chases in a luxury simulator, it just feels out of place.

Winning championships gives you money, alot of it. Which you can spend on real estate, clothes for your character, cars (obviously) and upgrades for your car.

There is one huge issue with this, and will lower any score this game will ever get.
When you first run TDU2, you will get a prompt to create a profile. If you choose to make a multiplayer profile. you will need an Atari account. This is the worst part. TDU2's website is broken, so when you try to enter it, you will get a message about security issues. You may simply disregard these messages, there is no virus inside it. And creating an account can be tricky aswell (not confirmed by me). And if you forget your password, the "Reset password" button is broken aswell, it will give you a message saying "Couldn't send password reset email" meaning you have to directly contact Atari support for a password reset, which takes two days approx.

Not to mention that TDU2's servers are powered by a hamster running in a wheel, and it tends to be lazy on the job.
So you can count on servers being down quite often, and changing sessions without you knowing it. Playing with friends will be tricky.

Final verdict:
This game is great in it's own way, despite the problems it has. And some problems are difficult to disregard.
Voice acting is not good, not at all.
But Eden has spent more time on details, which is good. You can clearly see the stitches on your car's steering wheel, if it has a satnav it will show the minimap. When in third-person the cars Speedometer will have a different design depending on your car. And you can of course see the character change gears depending on the car. If it is manual, the player will lower his hand from the steering wheel and change gear, if it has pads the character will put three fingers behind the wheel and push the pads.
But it actually does feel more like an MMO with cars, so if you are looking for a real car simulator, I'd recommend picking up Forza.

Overall score: 6/10, could be alot better.
Thanks for reading my review, I hope it has helped you decide whether this game is worth it or not.

Bought it on PC and thought I'd be able to play multiplayer because I remember how fun it was on the 360. Come to find out the MP works for some and doesn't work for others thanks to the account creation ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, unfortunately I got stuck and even though I created an ATARI account it doesn't register. Oh well, the singeplayer is still fun.

However you play Test Drive 2 Unlimited, you're likely to miss out on something Eden Games and Atari did extremely well. Whether that's vehicle paint and decals, avatar fashions, car interiors, a surprisingly robust casino experience, or just some gorgeous scenery in certain out-of-the way places, there's just way too much good stuff going on in this game to have anyone yawning with a cursory play-through.

Why get this buggy, never to be updated driving game you may wonder. This is why I say yes in a simplistic -List.

Pros
-Variety of cars/bikes from Mustangs to Ferrari to Harley Davidson.
-Decent Graphics for a driving game of its nature.
-RPG Elements. Houses you can customize, a comprehendable profile system, Club Houses, clothes and more.
-Two Very Big and good looking Islands with plenty of roads and things to discover.(On that note)
-More things to do than just drive against ai. Integrated SP and MP for those who like MP. Public Challenges, Clubs, car wrecks you can salvage. photo missions, Casino if you get the dlc, decent player interaction, are just a few of the things.
-Easy to progress and somewhat ok support for wheels, controllers etc. (Friends XboX 1 Controller Works with this
for example)

Cons
-No developer to update anymore
-Registering on the game website and getting Atari Tokes for DLC can be a pain
-Glitches and Speed Hackers
-From what I hear unstable servers(Never Experinced Myself)
-Confusing Police
-Some graphical bugs for some(Pink Skid Marks for example)
-And a few minor other things that bugs me but does not stop the flow of this game

All In All I highly enjoy this game and suggest everyone at leasts watches some videos of this game on youtube and go with the open mind that people can exagerate problems (Pro or Con) and give this game a chance. You more than likely will not regret it. As for comparisons to The Crew. Even though this games developers are included they are 2 Different games and I will play both in the future. If your still skeptical, wait for a steam sale, game gets decently cheap. Happy driving! See you on the street!

The promise of real terrain and an open map is truly amazing but this game doesn't deliver on many aspects especially on the physics side. Most elevations on the road are implemented as triangles where the car jumps and skids slightly as you are speeding and in addition to that many bugs are not being addressed. This game is dead and so is the series it seems, it's a no buy from me at this point but would still consider if they took this game to the year 2015 and fixed all the weird dialogs, stupid repeated conversations and unrealistic and cheesy characters :)

I just can'trecommend this game. I want to, on some level. but I can't.

If you are like me and just would like to play offline, what you get is a driving game with very poor physics, very lite content, and a huge amount of pay walls. I really dislike seeing DLC I don't have access to. All the good cars are basically DLC.

Now suppose you started playing "offline" and you suddenly have the urge to play "online". Well in this instance you have to start a new game. There is a way to use your previous save but, really, doing even that much work is just stupid.

Then there is the "characters". Two Islands filled with the douchy-est characters I've ever seen in a game. Its just awful, even for the time it was released.

Keyboard is near impossible to use, which would have been fine for a game leaning more to the "sim" side of things, but for an arcade racer, it seems lazy. Keyboard doesn't need to be the focus, but at least they could have thought about it.

The physics themselves are okay right up to the point you lose traction. Even with a wheel, breaking loose is pretty much unrecoverable. Cars will also randomly barrel-role in a jump. That actually seems to be on purpose so you can get points.

Just avoid the game. Its just not that great but also the way DLC was handled is just terrible. I'm fine with paid DLC but I prefer having a whole complete product first then adding value on top of that, instead of slicing bit off for more money.
