Rather nice Star Trek game, highly enjoyable, good lore, well developed systems and such. Would certainly recommend, but its not for everyone. One annoying aspect is many of the best ships, etc require you to pay money for in-game credits, for things like the best Star Ships, etc.
8/10 for me.

Have been a Star Trek fan since the 80s. When I found Star Trek Online, I never dreamed that I would enjoy it so much. It is a game to get lost in. The amazing thing is that it is free-to-play. If after playing it this way, you decide you want to benefit from some paid for items, you can pay at any time. It is as simple as calling for a turbolift.

Star trek online has so far amazed me by the amount of content given
and the amazing community it has to offer, Most things you can get free in this game
like starships ground gear and much more, so it doesnt feel like the games trying to
beg you for money everytime you level.

Another thing is the amount of customization, as you and only you can pick what you look like,
what weapons you use, what loot you keep and what loot you sell.

My final score for this game is a 9/10 being if you want a lockbox ship then you will need to pay for it
or grind, but overall the game is worth a shot to all people who are fans of space game and star trek.

Fun Game especially if your a Trekkie. Now I'm not saying it's perfect but it's fun it has a lot of content and a lot to learn. Only down fallis Ground combat is clunky. Other than that I like it especially cause I'm a TREKKIE.

STO has had it's problems. On release it was buggy with poor controls and balancing. I'm pleased to say that the issues are mostly in the past, and the transition to free to play has been handled very well.

I've put a huge amount of time into this one, and have greatly enjoyed my experience both alone and with friends (although being an MMO, friends are recommended). There is an entertaining mix of ground and space combat, and branching dialogues with plenty of customisation options for your character, ship and play style.
Due to the numerous and ongoing updates there is now a pretty large amount of content to play through and keep you entertained.

To date I've never felt like I HAD to buy anything using real cash. From the starting levels through to the endgame, everything can be completed without paying a dime. There are a fairly large selection of ships, outfits and other customisation options which do require you to shell out some cash, however there is never the feeling of "pay to win". Should you be willing to spend a little, Cryptic have catered well and there are some items which you may enjoy.

All in all, a solid free to play game. Worth a look - and for free, why not?

First of all: I love this game.

The story is superb and as a die-hard Trekkie, I can vouch that the developers' attention to detail when it comes to the Star Trek Universe is marvellous. It is the continuation of the Star Trek series and films that never was, filling up holes in the story, piecing at first glance totally unrelated episodes together and creating a story as original and Star Trek to the core as you can get. Even the "title theme" is instantly recognisable as Star Trek, while being something completely new at the same time.

The fact that a lot of known Star Trek actors (Leonard Nimoy - Spock, Tim Russ - Tuvok, Michael Dorn - Worf, etc.) lend their voices to their characters and you get to talk to them and fight alongside them makes my Trekkie heart beat a lot faster (one of the highlights for me was fighting alongside Voyager and traveling to the Mirror Universe).

I have concentrated on the story so far as that is the most important aspect of a game to me. I am no expert in different aspects of gameplay and controls and the like, so I leave that to others. But I do enjoy that you have both ground and space fights. not to mention the diplomacy missions, allowing me to engulf myself in RPGing in my favourite fictional universe.

So, if you are a Trekkie such as myself, this game is definitely for you. For everyone else, this is still a superb online game (stunning graphics for FTP) with an intriguing story (although you won't get all the in-jokes and references, don't worry, it's definitely not a game you can only understand after memorising each and every dialogue from all five shows and ten films - but maybe it will pieque your interest in Star Trek). I can definitely recommend it.

EDIT: Oh, if you're wondering why I have spend so little time on this game if I love it so much: I don't always play it through Steam (gaming on Linux can be a tricky thing sometimes). But believe me, I have clocked A LOT of hours on STO.

Love: How you do space and ground battles , have an outfit for duty and off duty uniforms , a crew you can customize from uniform face and names and also upgrade their skills , and you can customize your ship.

Hate: That I can't afford to buy the expansions.

Overall: Great mmo and if your a Star Trek fan this is as close as you'll get to being part of that world.
