A quite fun and enjoyable addition to the Ghostbusters franchise.

You're playing as "Rookie", starting with the original ghostbusters team and fighting against lots of ghosts and all sorts of paranormal entities.
The story is set after the movies, with the team investigating paranormal activities throughout the city, while facing again the threat of the great destructor and the entity who wants to summon him and merge the ghost world with the real one.

To be honest, i didn't found the story to be a very strong part of the game, but it's not bad either.
It does set a nice foundation, to bring back the ghostbusters and some of the ghosts you already know from the movies (like slimer, the stay pufft marshmallow man, the library lady...) and the overall atmosphere and humour is pretty close to the movies.

The graphics aren't top notch, but there are games which aged worse and they did a nice job with the characters, they are all very recognizable.
Gameplaywise it's pretty much a third-person "shooter", but instead of guns, you are using your proton gun. You have to shoot the ghosts long enough until their "health" is down, then you need to catch them with your ghost trap, while trying to keep them in the beam so that they won't escape.
Capturing ghosts was the most fun part for me actually, as it was implemented pretty good. The controls of the proton gun while catching a ghost with it, felt pretty good, especially when struggeling to get them into the traps.
The only issue i had was with the camera, it was a bit clumsy to control (with mouse and keyboard) but after a while i got used to it.

All in all it's a nice and fun game, which does a good job in creating a nice ghostbusters atmosphere.
Despite some (minor, imho) technical flaws, like the controls and the somewhat outdated graphics, i would highly recommend it to anyone who likes the movies.

Ghostbusters: The Video Game takes place in 1991, about two years after Ghostbusters II. The Ghostbusters are now funded by the city of New York and they are well respected in the community. In fact, they have started recruiting new Ghostbusters, which is where you come in. You play as Rookie, a trainee whose real name the other Ghostbusters refuse to learn because they do not want to get too attached. You do not get much time to learn the ropes before a pulse of energy flows through the city, igniting paranormal activity like a wildfire.
Catching ghosts is lots of fun. Most of the ghosts in the game are beaten by just damaging them until they run out of health, but there are still a lot that require ghost traps. The process of wearing down these larger ghosts and dragging them into traps is incredibly satisfying. There's a decent variety of weapons aside from the basic proton stream, including a slime thrower and the really fun slime tether. You also come equipped with a PKE meter, which lets you get information about your environment and ghosts, much like the Scan Visor in Metroid Prime. All this equipment can be upgrade with money earned by catching, defeating, and scanning ghosts, as well as by finding collectibles throughout the game.
The characters look like the actor's they are based on. The effects for the proton pack are spot-on. The ghosts look great, with some interesting designs. The level designs are varied, ranging from areas straight from the movies to completely new, almost Lovecraftian environments. Everything looks good and creepy, and there is a lot of attention paid to detail.
Everything about the sound in this game is nearly perfect. Clearly, the voice acting is fantastic because it is the actual actors who are doing the voice actors.
The music sounds just like the movie, everything sounds right.
Ghostbusters: The Video Game offers an excellent opportunity to relive one of the greatest franchises of the 80s. It stays true to the movies it was based on while providing a nice twist to a standard video game genre. Whether you are a fan of the Ghostbusters or not, you will probably have fun with the few hours you will spend on this game.

Sound 9/10
Graphics 8/10
Gameplay 8/10
Atmosphere 9/10

Never mind that Hollywood has been unable to give us the long deserved third Ghostbusters film in years: this is the real deal!

Really! This is a damn fine video game! Everything you loved about Ghostbusters is in this game: your favourite ghost Slimer, top-notch voice acting provided by the actors (yes, even Bill Murray is in this game), jokes in-between and throughout the missions, encounter with Stay Puft and more! Even that annoying Peck returns to bother our favourite team.

I loved how they make you become the 5th Ghostbuster. Beside the usual laser stream you have 3 more ways to use your "backpack". And each beam has a secondary fire making the game more and more interesting along the way as ghosts can only be damaged by some of these beams. You have collectibles, countless references to the films, huge boss battles and a really good soundtrack!

Everything you need from an adaptation can be found in this game. I have not found a single mistake and did 3 walkthroughs so I can only recommend it wholeheartedly.

TL;DR Version: If you're Ghostbusters' fan, then you must get this game. If you're not... well, watch the movies first and get back here, if you became one of.

Story is written by Dan Aykroyd & Harold Ramis (Ray & Egon), so expect 100% authenticity and relation with both Ghostbusters movies. Many think, including myself, this game as Ghostbusters 3 movie.

Ghostbusters' voices performed by original actors themselves: Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis. Classic dialogues, jokes etc.
Same theme song by Ray Parker Jr.
Same sounds of proton packs, traps, Ecto-1.

What can be better?.. NOTHING!

Game is almost 5 years old now, so it is hard to judge. When you are first time launching the game, picture looks ♥♥♥♥ty. But when you get used to it, you start to find artwork really beautiful.
Especially I like character design. You see Peter Venkman on the screen and you believe he is Bill Murray. Don't know, maybe it is more due to voice acting and classic dialogues, but even if game graphics doesn't make it feel better, then at least it doesn't make it worse.
Graphical effects are primitive, but look nice. Same as in movie.

Good artwork but lowres. Is this due to age or bad engine's optimization that lead to detail cuts?
8/10. Bring HD textures and I'll give 10.

Why I put gameplay to the end? Because this game should be treated more as a movie rather than as a game. There are a lot of cut-scenes in the game. I would say even more: there are some cut-gameplay put inside a movie. Don't get me wrong - this is a good thing. First because those cut-scenes are interesting to watch, especially if you're Ghostbusters fan like I am. Seconds, the gameplay, which is put between those cut-scenes, is interesting too. It's not like in other game, where you need to spend 5 minutes of watching one cut-scene, then ten times press 'E', then watch another one, which you can't skip. Btw, you can skip cut-scenes in Ghostbusters, if you want to. But I didn't. Cuz they are cool ;)

Enough about movies. Let's talk about gaming. This isn't an arcade action game. It is ghost hunting simulator. A dream of my childhood: you got a proton pack on your back, PK-meter and a ghost trap - go hunt your ghost, cadet! Wow, cool!... wait, how am I supposed to do it? It seemed like guys in the movie trapped ghost with ease. Why it is so hard for me? Because they are pros, but you are a noob! Shame of me, but I must admit that "modern gamefare" left impact on me too. "Shoot everything that moves. Press 'E' multiple times, if **** happens" - this doesn't work here.

First, you have to find the ghost, using PK-meter. This is the easy part.
Second, you can scan the ghost, i.e. shoot the ghost with PK-meter. This can be ommited, but scanning gives you valuable information about the ghost, revealing its weaknesses and way to deal with it. Weak ghosts can be just killed, harder ones require trapping, but some requires extra steps like catching them and smashing to the ground.
Third, the usual part - damage the ghost.
And final and most tricky part - get the ghost into the trap. This is a pain in the *** for beginners. And the most fun part for experienced players. This part make this game unique. First time I though this is a simple as Ghostbusters were doing it in the movie: shoot the ghost with proton beam, put a trap, press a button... but ghost says "Screw You!" and flies away! It doesn't want to be trapped. So you have to catch it, smash it to the objects on the map (it feels kinda punching ghost to the face) and only then try to pull it towards to the trap while it is still dazed. After you have mastered this, it makes you feel like a real Ghostbuster!

But there are sad things too:
1. 3rd person view. I agree that the Proton Pack looks cool and has all HUD elements player needs, but I'd really prefer to sacrifice it for a 1st person view. Or at least a button that changes views.
2. No Ecto-1 driving mission. You can't drive Ecto-1, you can't even get inside and see its interior. Maybe I'm asking too much, but I was really expecting it.

Buen juego, gran adaptación de las pelis, técnicamente sorprendente, pero no esperes nada impresionante. Y está algo mal optimizado.

Good game, great adaptation of the films, astounding technically, but don't expect anything memorable. And it's not optimized very well.
