Well done. I think if this was an actual movie instead of a video game it would fit right in to the Ghostbusters series. I would totally have gone to see this in theatres. Story was thought out. Involved many aspects and subtle references and jokes to the previous Ghostbusters Movies. Plot involves saving New York from mass dimensional collision all caused by the Damsel in Distress unbeknowest to her.
To quote - Ghostbusters creator Dan Aykroyd has said, "This is essentially the third movie." and I whole-heartedly agree.
If you know the original movies. Egon, Ray, Venkeman, and Winston. All remain with their personalities intact. No big changes. Venkeman still after the girls with his sarcasm befitting his character. This was used throughout. Egon with his super nerd explanation of anything. And simple truth Ray the big boss of the team. The best part is that each of the actors who portrayed the Ghostbusters in the films, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, and Ernie Hudson, lent their voices and likenesses to the in-game characters which made the character more consistent and true to their movie counterparts.
You - basically as if there was a new recruit to the team - you learn the ropes as the newbie. You never speak which is fine - (i dont want to hear my character I rather hear Bill Murray as Venkeman).
The third person shooter set-up of the game is very valid. The idea your pack can do different things to fight a range of different ghosts from the other side also was fine. My only issue, my only true complaint is that if you check any of my videos of the full game as I played is the following: The mouse did not trap on the window. So I had a lot of trouble aiming, my mouse would go off screen or my mouse would accidently hit the X to close or pick up and drag the window while I was attempting to fight a ghost. It was very difficult to play straight without have to go tab to the menu and back to get back to the game and remove the movement lock from the mouse going off screen. If you can get past the mouse issue, the only issue at times is when multiple streams are on screen or the characters, the gameplay would slow down/lag. (referring to rendering of the other ghostbusters with your character.)
In addition, the AI at times were dreadful. You are a team member of the ghostbusters fighting ghosts and bosses yet you do all the work. I would have thought at times when there were 10+ ghosts on the screen I wouldn't be the only one attempting to capture them.
I would recommend to play this game. The one pitfall is the mouse. But the rest of it. I loved. Then again could be biased to the fact I watched the Ghostbusters as a child. And since it was Halloween, Ghostbusters were being shown on the TV.
