I kind of hate this game. Playing it well requires constantly harnessing the diversity of your arsenal, and I am just not good at fighting with more than one gun at a time. It is often difficult for me to assess a situation rapidly enough in the middle of battle—while my brain is consumed with the effort of dodging, shooting, and navigating to health and ammo pickups just in the nick of time—to see an opportunity for a better tactic represented by one of my other weapons.

So it has been an extremely frustrating experience, particularly because I stubbornly insist on sticking with Hard difficulty to the end (just regular Hard, mind you; there is worse available, if you wish for it). I can only play one level per session because it's such an exhausting ordeal, and I've spent the entire latter half of the game wishing it would end already.

Yet, objectively, I recognize that Hard Reset is a very good first-person shooter of the old school style. There are moments when I actually manage to adapt and perform well, and it is quite gratifying. I certainly do recommend it. Just be honest with yourself about who you really are before you make that purchase.

I had a lot of fun with this game. Great graphics, great oldschool (but more Painkiller than Doom style) shooting, somewhat confusing story where it felt like not enough background info was given to know what's going on - but whatever. And Normal difficulty was actually challenging without being frustrating!

And do yourself a favor and use that first upgrade point to get the Shotgun - it rocks!

My only minor quibble is that due to the way the weapon system is set up, it often took two key presses to switch to the gun I wanted.

Hard Reset is a fast paced revivalistic shooter, a tribute to a kind of game that has nearly vanished from the gaming world and has been replaced with the "wanna be realsitic" shooters.

Let me start off by saying the game looks amazing. Graphically impressive with an art style that matches the tone of the game perfectly. Weapon effects, explosions, rain... Everything looks top notch, especially this being the first game of a small company.

Gameplay is fast and brutal. You only have acess to 2 weapons, one that uses bullets and the other electricity. "Just 2 weapons?" you might think. No, not REALLY 2 weapons, as each weapon can be upgraded and transformed into various other weapons at the same time, so the machine gun you start off with will be able to transform into a shotgun, a rocket luncher or a grenade luncher for example. Oh, and every "weapon" has secondary fire, and none of that "aiming down the sights" BS here either. Just run fast and hold down either fire button and have fun.

There's also secret areas to be found, wich hide ammo, health or the currency you need to upgrade your weapons or health/armour and all that.

Unlike most games of this genre, wich focus on humour (like Shadow Warrior or Serious Sam for instance), HR's tone is darker. As i said before, the artstyle matches this and so does the story, even if the plot is only serviceable most of the time.

A really great, underrated game that deserves to be enjoyed by anyone. There's even a free DLC!

One of great and unique FPS games, combining old school FPS with modern FPS elements just make it more beautiful.
This game offers you:

+Good Shooting, you feel every bullet that escapes your gun.
+Good weapons, 10 different weapons with unlockable skills for each one.
+Good level design, you can imagine how that world look like.
+Good AI, they can dodge your shots sometime in really good way.
+Good sound effects, physics and explosions.
+Its not a horror game, but there are jump scares.
+Using the surroundings around you will help against heavy enemies.
+Utilizing your weapons will give you better gaming experience.
+Great graphics, it doesn't look old even after 3 years.
+Good DLC expansion, new levels and enemies.
+Good boss fight.
- Its hard to avoid getting damage, it seems your hit box is so big, like a fat guy with cool guns, really hard to dodge without running, which require stamina and space to run into. (this game for you hardcore gamer!)

Flying Wild hog proved they make really great FPS games, if you finish this and want more, Shadow Warrior.
I hope it gets a sequel with better story elements, like shadow warrior style.

Don't miss this game, worth the price, it get discounted frequently too.

I'm having a lot of fun with this game so far. It's pretty tough FPS game, but never really feels unfair. You really have to be on your toes to survive robot ambushes.

The weapon upgrade system is good, and you have a lot of flexibility on what you want to upgrade.

Amazing game, challenging, runs well on most PC's, very rewarding to those who dont mind taking the road less traveled, gives off a great old school shooter vibe.

I had never even heard of this game when I gave it a try. It came with a Humble Bundle. It was a more than pleasant surprise. It's an old-school shooter (no health regen, more than two weapons, slippery movement). It does incorporate newer conventions such as upgrades, and you sorta only have two weapons, but they can do much more than when you start the game once you upgrade them. The biggest draw the game had for me was it is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ beautiful, technically and aesthetically. The environments and enemies are very Cyber-punk. I think there was a story in the game, but I could care less about it. Who needs it when you have such solid shooting and breathtaking graphics.

Hard Reset is a great game to spend time and beat. It has loads of secrets and achievements for completionists. Very fluid combat system as well, for the FPS-junkies. Good story if you want to follow the plot.
The weapons are basic when you start out- A kinetic rifle and an energy rifle. Both have 4 different uprades (same with your defensive items) and 3 sub-upgrades, so each playthrough can be a little different from the last.
Every level has a lot of enemies which always makes you feel like 'OH SH!T' every time you see a large group, and they always know you're there, so no super-sneaky type stuff either.
*tip* invest in the railgun/shotgun early on to help out with tougher enemies.

The only complaint is that the game is far too short, even with the DLC.
Not to mention they left the ending in a cliffhanger type deal, leaving the player to imagine what happens next.

But overall, 8.9/10

Time to write an opinion, Mr. Fletcher: You are doing well in the Cyperspace! Haven´t had that much fun killing all these robots for good since I don´t know when...Flying Wild Hog managed to create a very moody and visual impressiv Sci-FI-shooter with old school style. Enjoy it very much!

The Good:
- Tried and true FPS game formula (reminiscent of Quake, Doom, other classics)
- Fast-paced and challenging combat
- Good visuals

The Bad:
- Storyline is delivered poorly and makes little sense
- The game's setting and limited character roster are very underdeveloped
- Level design feels stale

Playing through Hard Reset was a sort of love-hate experience for me. Overall, this game is enjoyable and is fun for just turning off your brain and shooting robots with rockets and plasma rifles. However, if you're like me and you're drawn to elaborate stories and deep characters and settings, then this game might not be for you.

Hard Reset offers a solid (albeit non-remarkable) FPS adventure filled with fairly entertaining action, but it feels shallow and will likely leave you wishing for something more.

It feels like I have been dropped into the 2000AD comic series. It's like being right there.

I seriously love the way this game looks. The city graphics are second to none for me, but I haven't played all the most modern games. Combat is great, if a bit tough at times. Combat with robots is extreme sublime. Although slightly short it has become one of my favourite gaming experiences. I played the demo a few times. I have played though on hard difficulty twice. My second play through took 12 hours including DLC levels. My first play through took longer partly because I was gawping at all the graphics.

Really though I feel I am there in the comics, like they came to life, and I am in it. Incredible feeling. Awesome engine and concept.

Hardware for max settings;
A good i5 and GTX650 Ti will keep frames rates above 25fps with settings maxed. It will be well over 25fps in many places. This type of hardware will keep it smooth in the most heated battles.

Hint:
Make the shotgun your first upgrade. It is a game changer.
Take the railgun and RPG upgrades soon, as again they are game changers. (The railgun is the only long range fast weapon. Other weapon types I did not even try.)
I used these weapons and all the combat gear upgrades.

Minor bad point:
One or two of the checkpoints are a bit far apart.
My fight with the first boss nearly stopped me playing, but youtube showed me I had to use different weapons.
One particular secret I can not work out. I could look it up online.
Shame it is slightly short, even with the free DLC. I just haven't had enough for such a superb concept game. (It takes longer than Crysis to play though.)

An EXTEMELY underrated FPS game. Beautiful graphics, fun and fast gameplay, mildly challenging. Enemies have buttloads of health, although weapons are technically few (There are two, Laser and bullet, with different modes (grenade launchers, shotguns, etc) they are very satisfying. enviroments and levels are beautifully crafted.

Many people complain about a lame story, although I disagree, it's simply not fully explained.

For 15$ this game is well worth the price, I am unsure of the play time as I have not finished.

The graphics are excellent and the atmosphere hooked me from the first allyway .... unfortunately the gameplay is a major letdown. Just wave after wave of un-interesting mobs with no worthwhile AI.
A pure run and gun fest.
Zero IQ required.

Did you enjoy Deus Ex?
Do you like cyber punk?
You might like this game. the story (haven't finished) is cyberpunk, as are the inner flavor choices.

HOWEVER: The developers decided to hide your upgrades in a coin-purchase system where you dig around for secret rooms to upgrade your tech. This was a bad move and irritates me.

Do yourself a favor, grab a guide for the game.
