Simple yet interesting puzzles, engaging art style, and a history lesson in one.

There's really not much to this 10minute game... but the last part did reminded me of Xenogears on the PS1 where in the 2nd disc, it just narrates the story instead of you the player, doing any of it... so in this case... you don't do anything, game is done.

This took me 16 minutes to complete. It has effecting haunting music from NIN. It's a physics game at heart, the gameplay is minimal, it's more like an interactive story book. The art style has been compared to Monty Python, but it is more like an early illustrated book. Good game, well worth a look considering it's free.

The Cat and the Coup is rather an interactive history lesson than a political game. The "collage style" appearance totally reminded me of Monty Python's Flying Circus. I like it.

And now to something completely different: 'MURICAAA!

I really loved this one. It's very quick and the puzzles are pretty simple, but it gives information on an important yet seldom talked about moment in history. It's an overall awesome game if you're looking for something unique to play in your free time.

It's hard to give a free game a negative review, especially when it's not much of a game but a visual history lesson - so I won't. That being said, I do feel like they stopped short. Gameplay ends about 1/2 of the way thru history and the rest is just visualization and text. Great perspective for Americans as we don't normally look outside of ourselves, nor understand the ramifications of our policy on the international community. Just wish it were longer and I had better drugs. Still trying to decipher the whole cat thing. The music was cool.

You can't go wrong with this, for half an hour, I found an enticing history lesson that was creative, and eye opening.

On the first layer: Wonderful visual design with a pleasant soundtrack to back it up. Every inch of this game has a vibrant aesthetic.
On the second layer: A brief history lesson on the Irani Revolution, told from a non-Western perspective, which is very rare to a Western gamer, told via the scenes themselves and the occasional snippet of newspaper in the background.
Put together: A short, but impactful, beautiful, and expertly created piece of historical art.

And it's got a kitty in it. I like kitties.

This isn't so much a game as it is a piece of interactive art, telling you a story as you solve relatively simple puzzles. It keeps you engaged with the story of Dr. Mohammed Mossadegh with its surreal art. You "help" the doctor plod along his path to his inevitable fate and in doing so may feel as if you are either betraying him or punishing him. That depends on your politics.

If you're an art and history fan, I'd give it a play.

5-minute free breaktime game where you learn some summarised modern history whilst playing as a cat vandalising things. Can't fault it, seems like a great delivery system to me.

Not really much of a game but a entretaining interactive trip that's well worth taking for the 15-20m it lasts.

The imagery of the artwork as you move from scene to scene is enough to warrant it. For a free game its an impressive if brief achievement.

The Cat and The Coup is a very short game where you kind of play a history lesson... as a cat. I like history and I love all animals, and I really love games where you get to play as animals. I first got interested in it when I saw the art, which is this really cool style that looks kind of like a scrap book. I was further interested when I saw that you get to play as a cat. It took me 20 minutes to play through it because there aren't any real directions and a couple of the rooms were really confusing for me, in regards to what you had to do to progress. In order to get further into the brief history lesson, you have to interact with the environment in such a way that leads the human to fall out of the room you're in and into the next room. The music in the game, paired with the art and photos, gives it a great atmosphere. I am definitely having my history buff friend play this, just because it was an interesting game. I got to have fun while learning something new. Now if only all history classes were taught like this, I think more kids might pay attention.

Did I mention Nine Inch Nails is on the soundtrack? Because Nine Inch Nails is on the Sondtrack.

Edit: I just wanted to add that the mechanics of the game remind me of The Bridge, so if you played and liked The Bridge, you'll probably enjoy this game.

The Cat and the Coup is a visually arresting, surreal history lesson chronically the life and death of Dr. Mohammed Mossadegh. Half edutainment, half bizarre art project, it's an entirely unique and wonderfully creative 15 minute fall down an abstract rabbit hole, reinforced with the snippets of real world events that somehow only make it all the more unusual. Personally I found it a brilliant experimental experience, though for as odd as it is I can just as easily imagine a dozen entirely different opinions about it, which perhaps says something to how weird a game it is. Thankfully I don't have to decide for you whether to give The Cat and the Coup a look, as it's entirely free and will take just a small portion of your day to complete. At the very least it's almost certainly the oddest use of a Nine Inch Nails song I've ever found, which in itself I find strangely compelling.

If you're like me and you're in that incredibly specific niche of people that both like artistic video games and lament the CIA's ousting of Mossedegh, then you'll like Cat and the Coup. Otherwise, hey, you might learn something.

This little gem may be political, and extremely "artsy", but it's also 15 minutes of pure enjoyment. And since it's free, there's absolutely no excuse not to try it!
