About This Game

Nidhogg is the epic award-winning fencing tug-of-war, full of graceful acrobatics and clumsy stabs. IRL yelling and excitement may occur, in this ultimate two-player showdown of fast-paced fencing and melee attacks.

Beware, advantages in Nidhogg are often fleeting, as new opponents continually spawn in your way. Use a variety of fencing maneuvers while armed -- lunges, parries, and even dirty tricks like throwing your sword. If swordless, press forward with punches, sweep kicks, dive kicks, rolls, and wall jumps.

The combat arena stretches in both directions, although besting an opponent only gains you ground. Matches aren’t won or lost with a single kill, but with a series of kills granting you right-of-way to run/fight/flee to your own goal-zone.

Each arena holds different strategic formations and chokepoints to use to your advantage. Until you reach your goal-zone, anything is possible. Only one thing is certain in Nidhogg… the only way to win is to outwit your opponent. En Garde!

This is a great indie title to get your hands on. Combined with easy to use controls and mechanics, and a challenging playstyle, it can be a fun and competitive experience for any player. The only thing this game lacks, are various gamemodes, online multiplayer and unlockables. So the experience could get boring in the long-run

Good mechanics but.. unfortunately, as other comments mention, networking seems to be completely broken.
Probably still a good time for hot-seat play, if you have a regular group of buddies for that.
I only paid bundle price, but for me the broken online play leaves me not recommending it.

Disappointing - overpriced, little content, gets old pretty fast (unless you are into duels with friends, I haven't managed to find anybody online to play with), the final-screen-dragon looks extremely ugly and like something made in 5 minutes in MS Paint, and to be honest there is something uncannily disturbing about the game.
The pros could be the avatars' animation and the smoothness of duels, as well as the whole concept. But this is far too little to make up for the bad elements.

It's a great game IF and ONLY IF you have 2 controllers and friends to play with in real life. The online play isn't reliable the game feels really bad playing on a keyboard. Keep that in mind before buying.

Fun bag of chips type game. Okay at parties, not much else. Even at parties it won't be the life of the party, but it might have a couple good bites. If you get it free or super cheap it's reasonably fun.

It is absurdly overpriced though. Also the online netcode is/was awful, leading to less people online and thus worse ping and a worse experience and ability to troubleshoot in a vicious cycle. Do not expect online to be fun other than to laugh at the jankiness.

I am not recommending this game only because of the price point. If you can get it for a buck or two, then fine. Otherwise spend your money on something better.

Good one to keep around for when a friend comes over. Friendships can be destroyed very quickly by the ol' cartwheel across the screen

I love this game so much that I decided to join my school's fencing club, but I quit after I found out that the winner of a fencing match doesn't get eaten by a giant dragon. It's just not the same.

Online multiplayer is straight up broken. De-sync to hell, you win but the other player still sees you on the first room lol.

Even if the concept is nice, the online multiplayer is asynchron and makes this game unplayable.
I played with my friend and he would have to run left and me right AT THE SAME TIME.

These programers are rich because of this game and not intelligent enough to fix this bugs or implement a better online multiplayer.
But its a Game made with "GameMaker: Studio" so I guess this programmers dont even know real programming.
