About This Game

Nidhogg is the epic award-winning fencing tug-of-war, full of graceful acrobatics and clumsy stabs. IRL yelling and excitement may occur, in this ultimate two-player showdown of fast-paced fencing and melee attacks.

Beware, advantages in Nidhogg are often fleeting, as new opponents continually spawn in your way. Use a variety of fencing maneuvers while armed -- lunges, parries, and even dirty tricks like throwing your sword. If swordless, press forward with punches, sweep kicks, dive kicks, rolls, and wall jumps.

The combat arena stretches in both directions, although besting an opponent only gains you ground. Matches aren’t won or lost with a single kill, but with a series of kills granting you right-of-way to run/fight/flee to your own goal-zone.

Each arena holds different strategic formations and chokepoints to use to your advantage. Until you reach your goal-zone, anything is possible. Only one thing is certain in Nidhogg… the only way to win is to outwit your opponent. En Garde!

The game is very fun to play with friends, but playing the same few maps eventually grows stale. The mechanics are great but I really wish the developers would add some more variety.

Buy it on a 50% off sale. It gets old really quick.

Other than that, this game feels more like an arcade cabinet turned Steam title (Wait, what? There IS an arcade cabinet?

On a side note the arcade version is really good)

Nidhogg is solid but extremely simple - it's a nice diversion but it can't hold your attention for very long. The mechanics are cute but they get old really fast. I played the game quite a few times on Xbox, mostly local multiplayer with friends, and it was good for a few laughs, but we'd turn to something else after twenty minutes, tops. This Steam version plays the same for better or worse, but it also adds on *extremely* poor netcode. I was really shocked by how poorly the game runs online...a friend and I labored through fifteen minutes of stuttering, jerky matches that made it practically impossible to land an accurate hit or jump over a chasm. I'm struggling to understand why such a seemingly simple game would have such bad networking.

On top of all that, this is a simple little multiplayer game that can't really be played online, so you would think the price should reflect. Nope...it's 15 dollars or 16.99 CAD. You can read up on the game and watch some clips to decide if it is worth that price to you, but I definitely don't think it is. I actually got the game in a Humble Bundle pack so I didn't pay too much for it, but for everyone else, I'd say that this game isn't anywhere near worth a 15 dollar investment. If you're really interested in it, you should wait for a sale...but even then, remember that online play is functionally broken and the game probably won't be enough to hold your long-term interest.

This game is fantastic, but unless you have a few friends to play with, don't get Nidhogg.

The community has sadly deceased, making online multiplayer near impossible.

It's fun, it's a nice casual game, but... It not worth $15.

The content is really minimal, and you'll be done with everything in something like 2 hours.

It's based around the idea of playing it with friends (local and online) but... It's just hard to play for more than 30 minutes due to it's repetivity.

Not bad to pass the time but would only get it on sale. Simple and fun, feels like a mobile game at times though. Good for fans of fighting games and mind games.

This is one of the most intense pvp experiences on steam. A classic example of less is more. A true minimalist masterpeice. Recommend to players who like to get competitive with their friends as well as those who enjoy spilling some technicolor, pixelated blood.

Fencing. Screams, Pixel blood everywhere. Giant man eating worms. Fisticuffs. Stabbing people with long pointy things. 10/10. Would shed pixelated blood again. Single player very short/aracadish but don't care. So many rainbows of pixel blood.

This game is a lot of fun for single player, but not for very long. i beat the single player in 1.7 hours. i haven't tried it with friends yet (mostly cuz im forever alone and none of my friends have it) but im sure it would be a lot better that way. i only payed $1 usd for this because i got it in a humble bundle but the game normally costs $15 usd and i DO NOT think it is worth nearly that much. i would say this game is worth about $3 usd because there is not much content in it.

Amazing game! My friends hate it though because they claim, that I'm too good. This makes me happy.
