About This Game

Jamestown: Legend Of The Lost Colony is a neo-classical top-down shooter for up to 4 players, set on 17th-century British Colonial Mars. It features all the intensity, depth, and lovingly handcrafted pixels of a classic arcade shooter, with a modern twist: deeply-integrated cooperative gameplay.
Unlike most top-down shooters, which give multiple players a shared pool of lives or continues, Jamestown does something different. So long as any player survives, the team can be brought back from death. By giving every player the power to rescue their team from the jaws of destruction, Jamestown creates an exhilarating cooperative experience where everyone’s contribution truly matters. Win or lose, your team will do it together.

Key features:

  • Blast your way through historic Mars as a crack team of up to 4 friends in local co-op mode
  • Marvel and rejoice at vast expanses of lovingly handcrafted pixels
  • Escape into a fast-paced story of swashbuckling redemption
  • Epic orchestral scores composed by Francisco Cerda, unique to each level
  • Brave the hostile Martian frontier with your pick of 1619’s finest steampunk weaponry
  • Master innovative co-op mechanics paired with classical top-down shooter gameplay
  • Test your skills against 20+ rule-bending bonus levels
  • Run the “Gauntlet” arcade mode, and play Jamestown like it’s 1996
  • Leverage the unique scoring system to claw your way up the online leaderboards
  • Unlock all 30+ Steam achievements... if you can!

Pretty damn awesome old school shooter that gives any of the top japaense bullet hells game more than a run for their money. If you like the genre you need to play this. Also top notch presentation, artwork and music.

A really well designed game that accomplishes what it sets out to do with aplomb.

A SHMUP for true fans of the genre. The soundtrack, the physics, the colors... it is a very, very well-crafted game.

Lots of ship options on increasingly difficult levels with a fun plot overlaying it all. There's a lot of challenges to kill time with.

This game slowly turns you into a real man. You start like "yeah, normal difficulty" and then you realize that to finish the game you need to gradually increase the difficulty of every stage, making you play every freaking level on legendary difficulty and teaching you that the bullet hell is a real place where you will be sent there at the first sign of defiance.

TL;DR great bullethell topdown shooter arcade thingy, a great challenge.

Beat the main story in about 4 hours with my wife. Very fun. Great, intense soundtrack, sound, graphics, and gameplay. Overall, a satisfying and engaging experience. Does a great job of providing multiple difficulty levels and giving you a good learning curve. The way local multiplayer works makes it fun because you can revive each other. Even though me and my wife had to try the final stage over like 30 times, we never really felt frustrated because the game isn't too punishing and the fact that you're playing together definitely just makes things more enjoyable. I highly recommend this unless you don't like this kind of game, and it plays great if you have an arcade stick/fightstick and maps really easily. Plenty of replayability too if you want to compete on the leaderboards or try more challenging game modes (like hardcore mode where you don't revive over time or Gauntlet mode where you play through all stages in one go).

Retro-style gaming at its best. Great atmosphere, soundtrack and controls. Story is just too short.

I got this as part of Humble Bundle 4. I bought the bundle for Super Meat Boy and Cave Story+ (I'd never heard of this game at the time), but this is the game that was my favorite of the bunch. It's really fun, really tight, and a great recommendation for shmup fans. Most fun I've had with a shmup since Ikaruga, but it's not as hardcore as Ikaruga, and that's probably a good thing for most.

I grew on bullettime games, and I'm finding this one is my favorite of the last couple years. Great replayability, enough customization to keep wanting to play, and a difficulty level that's pretty intense.

A vertical scrolling bullet-hell-esque shooter in the tradition of DoDonPachi, which includes four player simultaneous play, extremely configurable controls, and has been designed around wide-screen format monitors.
What else? Great graphics, very well balanced enemy placement, good music, and a combo/scoring mechanic which balances risk/reward very nicely. If you're an advanced SHMUP player you might find this a tad on the easy side, but for everyone else it's a great entry point into the genre. Remember - the point of these games is to get from beginning to end without using a continue!

If you think you might play this with friends (local) get it right away!

The gunplay is awesome, with varied ships/weapons/bombs. There's also a special vaunt action that absorbs attacks, it works by collecting pickups (cogs/wheels/gears) that fill up a meter, the more it's full the longer you can vaunt. This makes the game really fun for me, because it takes away from some of the cumbersome elements of many shmups. i.e. many bullets.

Controller support is superb, you can grab about any HID device and it will work.

Easily my favorite top down shooter for PC.

I very much enjoyed this new world colonial simulator, but it did make me nostalgic for a release of Sid Meier's Colonization on Steam.
