Overall: Love & Recommend despite 1 clear flaw

Not the clear flaw I'm talking about
but might be the reasons stopping you from exploring & enjoying this game
First 5 levels
"A bit too simple, is this really fun?"
"Just grade 7 chemistry. Real-life reactions don't work that way. It's more tedious than difficult and I don't see how it's educational."

but the well-written story keeps me going :)

Around level 8 or so
"Woah the difficulty rise is a bit steep. I can't figure it out. I feel dumb & not exactly motivated to solve"

↑ On hindsight that level isn't particularly hard, but this game is minimalistic. Minimalism gives it more possibilities. Also it doesn't give you any clues so you can think independently, explore around freely and have more fun when you discover a certain idiom of symbol arrangement on your own.
The only problem is it might bore you before you "get" this game.
When I just got into this game, I've no idea how certain arrangements are possible---like multiple entries within 1 run, so it takes a long time to arrive at the solution---outside the box thinking takes a bit of wrestling.

Once I get to the 3rd & 4th planet, this game is pretty fun.
It's challenging. It's getting addictive. If I beat a level but my solution isn't exactly neat, I'll replay the level.

De Flaw____or I might be dumb and totally mistaken
If I play the same level using different methods, it shows the one with "more symbols used" and "more time elapsed" as the "best score". Shouldn't it be the other way around? A more efficient solution would be the more succinct one, with fewer symbols and shorter workflow. Or so I think,

This really annoys me but by no means changing this review to a "no".

The mid and later portions of this game really gets difficult and tedious.
I'm not there yet. I'll see if it loses me anywhere, or if it'd be both brain-wracking and fulfilling fun at the same time.

SpaceChem is a puzzle game that combines the chemistry with physics, is very entertaining as you spend a little time thinking about how to solve the puzzle that'sto come.

The music is very well, ideal for the theme of the game itself. It makes you relax and causes concentration ideal for these levels. It also has a story behind that is fun. It is definitely a good game, not playable for all but if you want to do a reflection.

Very good puzzle game or rather problem solving game. Warning: some of the later puzzles can take multiple hours to complete. It does feel incredibly rewarding though. I recommend it to those that want to unleash the engineer inside them.

Fake chemistry has never been more fun! This puzzle game is quite ingenious and although it can be frustrating at times, you feel very satisfied when you solve each level.

Space Chem is extremely complex, challenging and makes the player use his brain a lot. One of the most complex puzzle games I've played, one of the most fun too. The player also learns quit a bit about the difficulties of sequential programming along the way.

Spacechem is a very original puzzle game. It doesn't ask you to follow the developpers' train of thoughts and find out what they wanted you to do. Instead, you're presented with a problem and have to find your own solution.
This is incredibly satisfying, because anything you try can theoretically work if you think hard enough. Or, you can just start from scratch and try something completely different.
The difficulty curve is perfect, and there are enough levels for everyone to enjoy the game even if you don't make it to the end (the last couple of levels are pretty hard).
Because there's no fixed solution to any problem, the replay value is huge. It becomes staggering when you take in consideration the different leaderboards and how getting a good score in each category requires a completely different approach each time.
One of the best puzzle games I've ever played.

Very good puzzles, requiring spacial and logical thinking (knowing chemistry does not actually help).
Special mention: The intermittent "boss fights" are an awesome addition.

Note that this game is quite a bit harder than most puzzle games, so it is not for everyone.

It will test your brain and the solutions you discover give you the needed rush most puzzle games don't offer. It's exceptionally satisfying to see something you pour possibly hours over working as you made it.

If you're actually expecting real chemistry though, look elsewhere. This is "SpaceChem".

SpaceChem is one of my favourite games of all times, a 10/10, yet I am not sure I can recommend it. You need to be a particular kind of person to get into this game. And if you are not, you will definitely not enjoy this game.

This game is hard, very hard. I managed to finish it, but one of the last levels took me 2 weeks to solve, probably about 30 hours of trial and error, for just 1 level. It had me working with a pencil and a sketch pad as I sketched out little subsections of possible solutions. This is the only game ever that did that. The joy of finally solving it, was incredible, naturally, but you have to be able to put in the effort. Looking at a problem and going "ah, I'll just look up the solution on Youtube" is not the way to play this game.

At some point, every puzzles seems impossible, that is, until you solve it. And then the next seemingly impossible puzzle is presented to you. You can approach this in two ways, as the very best puzzle-challenge you will ever play, or as a game that makes you feel stupid. If you are the latter kind of person, do not get this game, obviously.

So, if you are looking for a genuine challenge that will push your creativity and out-of-the-box thinking to its limits, if you are tenacious and willing to be immersed so deeply that you'll start dreaming up solutions while you sleep, this is hands down the very best puzzle game you will ever play. If you are not, then this is definitely not the game for you.

Do I recommend this game? YES, just not to everyone.
