Interesting variety of tower defense genre. You're in control of "invading" units in pre-built maps. At the beginning of each stage, you select your squad based on money you have. You can set/change route of your squad any time you want, change their formation, upgrade their abilities, sell/buy units during mission. You'll have different goals like getting to the end point, destroying some towers along the route, escorting safely some unit to the end, etc. Enemy towers doesn't respawn (in most levels), nor upgrade, so you can plan your strategy ahead.

Besides your squad "on rails", you control the commander - unit which can freely roam the field. His mission is to provide help to your squad with healing, diversions and air strike. He can also be killed, but he respawns after several seconds, unlike other units. Commander is equally important as your other units, so you must learn to use him wisely.

Once you get familiar with game mechanics, you can finish this game with almost same unit formation every time on any difficulty, but nevertheless, game is addictive and very fun to play. I highly recommend playing in combination with steam achievements which adds interesting tasks to do during missions (which also makes the game more difficult).

Overall, if you like tower defense games, you probably won't regret getting this game.

“Leadership comes in small acts as well as bold strokes."

Anomaly: Warzone Earth (A:WE) is a hybrid reversed tower defense simulation crossed with a real-time strategy game by the company 11 bit studios with emphasis on combat and tactics.

Atmosphere & Details:

+ Creative gameplay concept, where the player leads his attacking units through static towers.
+ Impressive balance between strategy and action keeps up the motivation.
+ Well-done art direction and particle effects.

o Solid background music.
o Alien design is rather playful.

Combat & Tactical Gameplay:

+ Player escorts his convoy with an on-foot commander, who can collect and deploy tactical power-ups.
+ Coordination of the units, scouting out positions and deploying resources create a dynamic gameplay.
+ Strategic elements in form of route planning, convoy make-up and order of units.
+ Units can be upgraded up to three times increasing their effectiveness.
+ Additional spawning of enemy towers keeps the player on edge.
+ Challenging end boss fight.

o Column of vehicles is limited to six units.
o Game speed can be adjusted.

- Only six different models of enemy towers.

Characters & Story:

+ Good presentation of the original background story.

o Solid voice work.

- Limited identification of the player with the protagonist.

11 bit studios succeeds in reinterpreting the traditional concept of tower defense games. A:WE offers a lot of fun in planning the most efficient routes, that will lead your convoy through the alien turrets causing maximum devastation in the shortest amount of time.

Estimated time for 100 % completion: +20 hours

Most challenges are related to the campaign, just make sure to keep an eye on the "Destroyer" and "War Hero" achievements. In addition, there are three more digital awards outside of the campaign. The most interesting one is the "Neverending Legend" achievement.

There are no multiplayer achievements.

Initiate level of commitment (achievement difficulty: 3 of 10)

Destroyer [+1]
Neverending Legend [+1]
War Hero [+1]

A very good achievement guide can be found on the link below (thanks to DeathXIII).

Fine graphics, I did not encounter bugs, the general atmosphere was pleasant, but I simply find the gameplay boring. The story, which is similar to c&c games, was the only thing that kept me playing this game. The game is not bad, but I simply don't like it - "neutral" review.
