Take ‘One More Turn’ in Civilization VI

We’re excited to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Civilization franchise by announcing Sid Meier’s Civilization VI, the next entry in the award-winning turn-based strategy franchise. Be sure to follow the Steam Community group here and add the game to your Steam wishlist!

http://store.steampowered.com/app/289070
Sid Meier’s Civilization VI, set to launch on PC on October 21, 2016, offers new ways to interact with your world, expand your empire across the map, advance your culture and compete against history’s greatest leaders to build a civilization that will truly stand the test of time. Your story begins later this year!

Sid Meier’s Civilization VI includes:

  • EXPANSIVE EMPIRES: See the marvels of your empire spread across the map like never before. Each city spans multiple tiles so you can custom build your cities to take full advantage of the local terrain.
  • ACTIVE RESEARCH: Unlock boosts that speed your civilization’s progress through history. To advance more quickly, use your units to actively explore, develop your environment, and discover new cultures.
  • DYNAMIC DIPLOMACY: Interactions with other civilizations change over the course of the game, from primitive first interactions where conflict is a fact of life, to late game alliances and negotiations.
  • COMBINED ARMS: Expanding on the “one unit per tile” design, support units can now be embedded with other units, like anti-tank support with infantry, or a warrior with settlers. Similar units can also be combined to form powerful “Corps” units.
  • ENHANCED MULTIPLAYER: In addition to traditional multiplayer modes, cooperate and compete with your friends in a wide variety of situations all designed to be easily completed in a single session.
  • A CIV FOR ALL PLAYERS: Civilization VI provides veteran players new ways to build and tune their civilization for the greatest chance of success. New tutorial systems are designed to introduce new players to the underlying concepts of Civilization so they can easily get started on a path to victory.

This game is great however since the automated worker issue reared its head and the lack of willingness by Firaxis to correct it on the vanilla game you are in a way forced to buy the expansions of Gods and Kings and Brave New World.

Kind of games workshopy in that regard.

A boourns for that.

If you don't mind micromanaging your workers though then nothing has really changed.

I recommend this game to people who refuse to play multiplayer. Because that way the game is fantastic.

However, if you happen to have a friend or two who would play this game with you, don't. The game will glitch out, disconnect, drop players and overall fist f#%" you and your hopes of ever completing a single match because not even reloading will get you past a random number of turns.

I would totally recommend this game on both mac and pc for anyone who's looking to get into the strategy genre or anyone who is already familiar with it, or even experienced players of the genre who need a simpler game. Also note that this review is written by someone who played with ALL dlc.

Pros:
-nice artstyle
-many unique civs who each have a unique ability and unique building or unit (or in some cases tile improvement)
-a lot of roads to victory
-simple mechanics
-great music
-simpler, smoother gameplay and a friendly UI
-steam workshop allows for a lot of mods that add hours and hours to the base game (scenarios, civs and maps)
-big, friendly community which constantly spews out more mods and also guides for beginners.

Cons:
-little to no variation in best possible strategy with most civs
-social policies are unbalanced (most people pick liberty because free worker & settler, or tradition, honor or piety are useless in comparison)
-some civs are unbalanced (america for example is underpowered, yet babylon is incredibly OP)
-you can infinitely spam out wonders
-less depth than civilization 4
-advisors ar really annoying if you haven't figured out how to disable them
-multiplayer is kind of buggy (especially with cross-platform play)

If I had to describe civilization V in three words it would probably be like: risk, on steriods.
Because it can be like risk if you're planning to go for the domination victory, only your warmongering will have consequences on your happiness. This feature of happiness and unhappiness might seem like it balances the warmongering out, and it does... until the late game comes.... (or when you have a few tenets in the order ideology)

The game has four roads to victory; science, domination, culture and diplomacy (or economic victory, as you will need to bribe a lot of city states to get this victory, or play as greece, complete a quest and instantly become allies).

Science involves you discovering every little secret of the universe and launching a rocket to outer space.
Domination is the most straight forward victory, just burn every other city on the map and you'll be set.
Culture is the most confusing and imo the hardest to get victory, as you will need to acquire tourism, once your civilization has generated more tourism than another civ in a lifetime, you win. Unfortunately tourism comes later and in smaller forms than your first batches of culture, so you'll have quite a bit of catching up to do.
Diplomatic basically has you bribe every city state on the map (if there are no city states just build the forbidden palace and make sure you're the host of the world congress.). A victory by diplomacy is quite easy to acquire, provided you stay alive long enough for the elections.

Managing cities in this game might be the easiest in any 4x strategy game I've played to date, as it's as simple as this:
there are a few resources your city gets out of tiles in its borders (these are worked by your citizens, which you don't even have to assign manually).
-food: helps your city to grow and work more tiles
-production: the higher production you have, the more you can build.
-science: your ability to advance in the tech tree to boost the other stuff.
-culture: makes sure your border grows so none of your citizens go unemployed.
-faith: your ability to create your own religion

Yes, you can create your own religion and (violently) spread it to every city on the map, because nobody expects the babylonian inquisition to spread hinduism to their neigbours; the aztec empire. Religions basically have traits (which you can choose) that improve your cities (e.g +1 gold per turn per 4 citizens following this religion).

Combat is also pretty straight forward: try to be ahead in science, numbers and promotions and try not to kill your entire army. because once you have the numbers you can just charge at everything the enemy has.

So short story, if you want to continue the legacy of alexander the great, immortal dictator of the greek empire, the founder of islam, conquerer of america, russia and china with death robots, I'd recommend you buy this game on sale!

Compared to most games I play this game is ok, it has decend gameplay and allows for hours of playing. However, it has some performance issues, and is lacking proper support. It is also several steps down from civ III and civ IV in progression. Where the game has given way to simplistic gameplay over how the game series was originally designed.

I think it's time for a review.

So, this game was released in 2010 by 2K Games and developed by Firaxis Games (for Windows).

I had this game thanks to the 2K 2016 Humble Bundle, so I got the "Gods and Kings" expansion at the same time and some DLCs. So I only played with the DLCs activated.

First of all, I'm fond of strategy games.

When I heard about the Civ games, I wasn't so interested. That was before I saw someone playing it. I found the game mechanics very polished and that made me buy it.

PROS :
- UNLIMITED scenarios. Play as whoever you want, each nation has its strength and weakness.
- A challengin A.I when you play above "Prince" aka "Normal" difficulty.
- Play a real campaign, or rush it. Yes you can configure the length of each new game.
- Play on out Earth map as we know it or customize it by adding some randomization.
- Pretty graphics.
- Nice soundtrack.
- Interact with other rulers to trade or make war.
- Lots of units you can use to make war or to develop your cities.
- Well made turn per turn gameplay.

CONS :
- Limited interactions with the others Civs. That's just my opinion.
- Not enough variety of units when you played many games.
- Difficulties below "Prince" are boring to play, only useful for real beginners or for achievements hunters.

As a conclusion, Sid Meier's Civilization V is a strategy games on which you'll spend a lot of time if you're fond of this genre.

As I said before, I don't have the other DLCs at the time I write this review, so I think some of my cons were corrected in the game. Looking forward for it.

Thanks for reading this review and have fun !

Wow. From someone who played Civ IV for endless hours solo and with friends the expectation for Civ V was not exactly low. The bar set as high as possible and Civ V blew it into space. Amazing game with endless possibilities. Played the scenarios, world campaign, and multiplayer. Keeps you interested and busy for a long while. Rivaling Total War for quality of development. Sid Meier's games are made with quality and the player in mind. Civ V is not an exception. The hexagonal gameplay remains the same with developing your civilization and chasing one of many victory objectives. For Those who have not played a Civ this game will treat you well, for those who have, it's another installment of a great series with improvements.

Gameplay 9/10. Improves on an already genre defining gameplay.
Visual effects 7.5/10. While basic they are neat and give the game a more interesting feel.
Graphics 8/10. Exceeds expectations. Again not a major factor in an TBS game. Not much to say.
Controls 7/10. Majoral point and click. TBS. Not much to say. Suffices but nothing extra was done to make it better.
Story 8/10. Same issues with any TBS. You change the "story" as you go. Extra point for depth of Civ's backgrounds.
Replayability 10/10 Bring you back forever.... ***Addictive***

8.3/10

Some believe that the world started from an explosion. If an explosion were able to transform something amazing, i'd throw a bomb at my house to transform it into a mansion

Do you know what this means???

We were wrong about ghandi all along!!

When he nukes us, he actually wants us to become even greater! This changes everything.

10/10 would let a city throw rocks at my stealth bomber and die again.

Plenty of Civs to pick from so you can mix up playstyles.

DO BUY THIS GAME IF:
1. Suicidal (you'll never get round to it)
2. You want to see Gandhi have a nuclear arsenal.
3. You need an excuse (I couldn't go to your wedding man, I was denounced by Gandhi and I had to form allegiances with the Huns to protect myself!)
4. You want to say "I wish I could play with Hitler" without getting several concerning calls from a nazi fetish group

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME IF:

1. You plan on going to the gym
2. You wanted to go out tonight
3. You have homework
4. You want to maintatin your relationship with your family
5. You want anything beyond the walls of your room to acknowledge your existence
6. YOU DON'T WANT ♥♥♥♥ING GANDHI OF ALL PEOPLE TO NUKE YOUR ♥♥♥♥ING CAPITAL THE DAY BEFORE YOU COMPLETE THE MANHATTAN PROJECT FOR ♥♥♥♥S SAKE!

$80.00 for a game seems a bit steep to me, I normally wait for the sales. Based on the hours I've played it works out to $0.07 and hour of entertainment. I guess I can justify buying the next one when it comes out.

Oh ♥♥♥♥♥, someone's firing nukes! Is it America? Mongolia? Russia? No. It's Ghandi. The only game where Ghandi is a master strategist in nuclear annihilation.
