Civilization V multiplayer update is now live

A patch has been pushed live that should address recent issues with connectivity. This fix will only affect the multiplayer components of the game, and will not change any gameplay values or single player settings. We hope that this will improve the stability of multiplayer matches.

For more info on the update, check out the Civilization.com blog here: http://2kgam.es/1yTmUHB

Patch notes: version 1.0.3.276 (October 27, 2014)

A patch has been issued for Sid Meier's Civilization V. Here are the patch notes:

EXPLOITS

  • Fixed tech overflow bug that could allow a user to get free tech each turn for multiple turns. The size of the maximum allowable science overflow is now set at 5 turns of science (about the same as a unmodified research agreement) OR the unmodified cost of the last tech researched, whichever is larger. AI also understands this adjustment.
  • Fixed a multiplayer bug that would allow a player to steal everything from another player when trading.

GAMEPLAY
  • Allow Conquest of the New World achievements to be unlocked when playing the Deluxe version of the scenario.
  • Slight nerf to Tradition, and a boost to Piety (by adding one more prerequisite for Legalism and taking one away from Reformation).
  • Scale warmonger penalties by era (50% of normal strength in Ancient up to 90% in Industrial; 100% thereafter). Penalties for warmongering vs. City-States halved.
  • Added Cocoa and Bison resources from the Conquest Deluxe scenario into the main game.

MULTIPLAYER
  • The autoslotting of human players when loading a saved game in LAN multiplayer was broken when trying to play round-to-round. This has been fixed.
  • Players now properly exit LAN games when they encounter a version mismatch.
  • Players can now set their nick name in LAN games.
  • Fixed an issue where player would get stuck on the joining multiplayer game screen if they used an incomplete IP address while attempting to join by ip address.
  • Notifications are no longer considered “broadcast” unless the player is connected to the game. This will make it easier to communicate information to players who were not connected when the message was broadcast.
  • Players now unready themselves if the host changes the game settings before the game started.
  • The number of player slots available was not updating for connected remote clients when the host increased the map size on the staging room.
  • Fixed an issue causing AI civs that used to be players to still have the player's Steam name after the player leaves in Multiplayer.
  • A player's name in the staging room chat panel no longer swaps if they swapped player slots.
  • Some multiplayer notifications can now expire at the end of the next turn.
  • Some multiplayer notifications will not expire until the player has network connected to the game.
  • Multiple hot-joining bugs fixed in Pitboss.

MISC BUGS
  • The icon no longer changes to a spinning globe during diplomacy (this normally means the game is busy).
  • Don't show a third-party civ or City-State on the trade panel list to "Declare War" or "Make Peace" unless both players have met that civ or City-State.

50 Hours into your latest save, all is going well. Only 3 leaders left Gandhi, Caesar and Washington.
you draft an 'end game' plan in your mind, you will make friends with Gandhi (for obvious reasons he's chill) then procede to befriend Caesar.

Then you will take out Washington because he is a ♥♥♥♥ and did not accept an open border agreement 3000 years prior HE MUST PAY. 20 turns later all is going to plan, we are now on Washingtons doorstep, Gandhi and Caesar appear to love and probably fear your superpower nation. All we need to do is eliminate the pesky Americans and ith all our military now on American soil this should not take long.

Then after the swift invasion of America we will make a vote for world peace at the U.N (in rome of course) with our new found Indian and Roman brethren it is a sure win!
But all of a sudden the distant droning of nuclear sirens start, quickly they become louder and louder, "what is this!?" you think to yourself, a false alarm? You shrug it off maybe Caesae bombing a city state.

The game pauses... Gandhi appears on the screen, with a sinister grin he shouts "WAR" in your face. Only seconds after you see a gut wrenching sight. The camera focuses on a nuclear submarine stationed just off the coast of your pride and joy, the capital of your glorious nation.

You then hear a rumble, just seconds after a nuclear warhead emerges from the previously hidden submarine, you realise it is too late... you can only watch as the missle closes in. As your city goes up in a giant cloud there are short lived screams from your beloved people, then silence.

Before what had just occurred had sunk in, before you could make rescue efforts to save your much loved citizens the humming of quiet engines fall upon your ears. Suddenly countless 'stealth bombers' appear seemingly out of no where, soon the sky is blackened by planes, the game falls almost silent only the whistle of falling bombs remains. You faint from the shock of what is unfolding.

You awake shortly after, Gandhi is still flattening what remains of your once prosperous empire, now with 'giant death robots' making the most of his seemingly never ending turn. As Gandhi clinically and relentlessly razes what's left of your broken nation all you can do is weep, your people hacked down in their prime and your glorious nation so mighty just minutes before has just been been all but eliminated in 1 turn.

Why oh why did you turn of autosave? did it really speed your game up? was it worth it?

Ghandi is a complete ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, he acts like your friend but WILL nuke the ♥♥♥♥ out of you if even the slightest oppurtunity presents itself. 10/10

When Gandhi or Ethiopia comes to your doorstep with gifts of gold, dyes, and ivory, take my advice. Ready all your tanks and nukes, arm them, AND SHOOT THEM LIKE YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT.

They are evil, traitorous demons. NEVER TRUST THEM.

However, Genghis Khan is my best friend. He came up to me and was all like, "De full do bu la chi mendo." And I said, "Okay! Let's be friends!" I can never understand that guy, but something about our relationship just works.

Civ 5 is the kind of game where you can try to be nice and befreind everyone, but you will get denounced. they will murder your people and pillage your cities. When you attempt to fight back you are labeled a warmonger, and obviously the only way to stop getting warmonger penalties is to slaughter all those that oppose you right? If you destroy 1 civ might as well destroy them all because they will not let you live that down. Also Ghandi Destroyer of worlds will wreck you if you don't give him all your uranium for him to build nukes to nuke you with. 10/10 would fight Ghandi Destroyer of Worlds again

This game.. I am not a TBS fan at all but Civilization V keeps me playing for hours and hours straight. It has this thing which makes you addicted to it, to just play that one turn more, to just get that civ on his knees to your army, just that one turn for your wonder to finish. Playing this with the expansions is a must. If you decide to buy this game, buy the Complete Edition cause the expansion packs offer so much more and makes the game even more addicting than it already is. Downside is though that you can't form a real alliance aside from a petty "Declaration of Friendship"

You know that feeling when you get up from a "Little" power nap, and realize you were sleeping for 8 hours?
That's this game. But instead of getting rid of stress, it's full of it.

In all reality, however. Sid Meier's Civilization V manages to feel like a board game. You start with 1 big piece, and you try to control the board, in sense. The game is rather welcome to new players. Almost everything is, or can be, automated. You might get confused for a bit, but soon you'll be Nuking Gandhi like a pro. But take heed, however. If you automate your Workers, which you'll find yourself doing the first couple games, they WILL build Farms everywhere. I have no idea if this is a fetish of some kind for them, but they do. This means first timers who want to automate should build a Tall Empire; To explain, a Tall Empire consists of few Cities, but each has a high Population. If you build too many Cities with too many Farms, your Population will make your City unhappy.

Now, for a synopsis of the game;

Sid Meier's Civilization V has many objects of importance. These are below. If you already know how the game plays, skip this section:

[G] = Gold. Gold is your main income. Gold is used for Trades, bribing City-States, and the purchase of Units or Buildings. It can also be used to purchase Tiles. A good income leads to a good Empire. Fact: George Washington is the only Leader who affects the purchase of Tiles (At least in Vanilla).

[F] = Food. Food increases how quickly your City grows. The more food, the faster. If you run out of food, your Citizens will starve until you have enough to sustain them.

[C] = Culture. Culture is used to adopt Social Policies, and grow out your borders. Culture is given to you 1 per turn at the game's start, which is why Monuments and other such Buildings increase Culture. Some Social Policies ALSO give Culture, or other benefits. Once you reach a certain pre-ordained amount of Culture, you may choose a Policy. Remember, for every City you found, Culture Cost is increased by 15% before you're allowed to get a new Policy. You can also achieve a Victory by adopting 5 Social Policies to the end of their branches in Vanilla, or through Tourism in Brave New World.

[H] = Happiness. Happiness is weird. First time players might see it as somewhat redundant at face value. The only thing it blatantly tells you is how close you are to a Golden Age, which increase [G] and [P] (Which I'll get to later). However, an UNHAPPY Empire grows at 1/4 it's normal speed, and a LIVID Empire grows even slower, weakens your units, and makes [P] plummet. Each City you found increases Unhappiness, and your Population does, too. If the people are unhappy, the Empire will fall.

[P] = Production. This is the amount of, uh, "Build" you have per turn. In essence, it's how quickly you build your Units, Buildings, and Wonders. Production can be increased by the terrain around you, and by Buildings like the Workshop. The more Production, the better.

[S] = Science. Science is the big thing of Civilization. Your Empire starts (At least in Vanilla) with Agriculture already Researched. This means you can build Farms. "But!", you cry at the silly reviewer on your screen, "If I only have Farms, what's all this stuff about Workshops!" Well hold your mouth, my, um, Civ-lings. Science is used to "Research." In a set number of turns, whatever you selected to Research is unlocked, and you get whatever bonuses come packed with it. This can be Units, Buildings, Wonders, Perks, Projects, or more. Science is one of the MOST IMPORTANT aspects of this game. Science can also unlock a Victory, but it's rather difficult. You must first unlock ALL SCIENCE PROJECTS, build the Apollo Program Wonder, and THEN build multiple Spaceship Parts. These Parts must then be moved to your Capital, and added to your Spaceship. Once you have all of them, you win!

[C-S] = City-States. City-States are non-player Civilizations, which can't win the game. They have Units roughly around the Era of the most Futuristic Era of any player, and while they are only 1 City each, they can be bribed for Influence.
Get ready for one of the most annoying factors of the game.
Upon Bribing a City-State with 250 Gold, they become Friendly. Giving you various perks. HOWEVER, Bribing them once more makes them your Ally. They gift you all Resources they have, give you more perks, AND they declare war on enemies you're fighting, or that fight you. Since City-States are about twice as much as normal Civilizations in number, allying yourself with many makes you a mighty force. If you manage to build the United Nations Wonder, unlocked with Science very late in the game, you can initiate a vote for World Peace. In doing so, City-States allied with you vote for you. If you get the required number of votes, you win!

[BB] = Barbarians. Barbarians spawn in small camps. They simply harass you. If you get onto an Encampment Tile, you remove it, AND get some Gold. Leaders like Suleiman and Bismarck can get Barbarians to join you, whereas Askia can get Triple Gold from these Camps.

Holy god that was a lot. If you read it all, I applaud you. Now, Civilization V is a great game. It's fierce competition, fun, and overall an honestly fabulous title. If you're a fan of Turn Based Strategy and you don't own it, GET IT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. It's an amazing work that deserves the money you pay. Not only that, but there's DLC that give Religon, and WAY more Leaders to choose from. Now, is the DLC worth your money? In my opinion; No. It provides more Leaders, but changes or adds Mechanics I'm not too fond of. I truly think the original is better. Civilization V captivates you into a suprisingly educational experience I didn't expect heading into it. You won't learn too much playing it, but the Civilopedia included in the game provides INCREDIBLY detailed backgrounds to Leaders, Buildings, Technology, City-States, and more. I urge you to buy this game even more now that Beyond Earth has come out, just so you can see what Civilization TRULY IS. The game's mechanics, art style, historical accuracy, and music blend together to form a game you'll spend weeks playing, again and again. Some people say it's only worth it with Expansions, but this game is fine just how it is, and in my humble opinion, is one of the finest games ever crafted.

TL;DR Buy it now you terrible person.

A friend of my recommended this strategy game. I thought ''Civilization'' wasn't the game for me, however, the opposite was proven. It is the best turn-based strategy game I have ever played.
The game is great, especially to play with or against friends online.
