About This Game

Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved is a old school style shooter, but remixed for the 21st century with next generation graphics and deep, modern gameplay. Playing is simple: you are a geometric "ship" trapped in a grid world, facing off against waves of deadly wanderers, snakes, and repulsars. Your aim is to survive long enough to set a high score!
Avoid the spawning enemies, and shoot them down for points. You can also fire smart bombs, which destroy all bad guys on the screen. Save these up for when the going gets really tough!
The more bad guys you kill, the higher your score multiplier goes (2x, 4x, etc.). The higher your multiplier, the more you can score. But don't die, as you lose your multiplier and have to build it up again from scratch!
  • Addictive "just one more go" gameplay, with mesmerizing graphics.
  • Pixel perfect recreation of the Xbox Live Arcade game.
  • Support for keyboard, mouse, and dual-stick gamepad play.

System Requirements

Minimum: Windows XP, 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) CPU, 512MB RAM, DirectX 9.0c, DirectX Video Card (128MB memory - Shader Model 2.0 support required), DirectSound-compatible sound card, 150MB free HD space, WEI Rating: 4.0 (3.0 required)

I saw someone playing this game on Xbox, and i wanted to get it. (On PC, since i dont play console) So i look it up, find it on steam and buy it. After playing less than a minute i realize it is barely the same game as on Xbox. The playing experience if very limited for the games price. You are warned, even though you might find it ok.

Loved this game enough on the xbox 360 to purchase it again on PC. No regrets at all. The game is basically asteroids on crack. The visuals are trippy and at times beautiful and the gameplay is arcadey and challenging. The real joy comes from challenging your own high score, which can be very addicting if you're into that sort of thing.

I will say though that this game is best played with a dual joystick controller. The PC controlls are acceptable, but it's definitely designed around control sticks.

Really fun for 5-minute sessions. I like to play this game from time to time, it's really fun for a cheap price and I can only recommend a controller, because it really makes a difference (at least for me). It is one of those small, little games, that are fun every now and then!

I'd say this is a good game, nice gameplay and graphics. If they could make it as great as the ds verison, this will be perfect

I watched RoosterTeeth playing this game on the 360 and decided to buy it on the PC. And I have no regrets. The game is really engrossing and addictive although there is only one objective : Destroy them all. There is a large variety of enemies ranging from simple squares to the huge snakes and blackholes. Only when you play it, can you understand the frustration when you die just a thousand short of breaking your highscore. The soundtrack is amazing. I personally love it.

A tremendous bang for your buck, providing a very excellent arcade shooting experience. While it seems more optimized for a game pad, my best scores were generally from using a mechanical keyboard.

This is one of my favorite arcade games to play in short bursts, whether I'm killing a few minutes before work or winding down just before bed. It's a simple premise: you play a ship hellbent on destroying animated geometric shapes. The dual stick control scheme and trigger for the bomb button make it fun and intuitive to play. I actually prefer the clone Grid Wars 2 to Geometry Wars because I can customize the grid, I prefer the music, and it's completely free.

Still one of the best arcade shooters around. I wish though they would provide the Geometry Wars 2 version from XBox Arcade with the additional game modes.

The most awsome game when it comes to usage of the two sticks on a controller, use of a controller is advicable tho, its just not the same experience with a mouse and keyboard. Still one of my favorite arcade games ever!

Geometry Wars is just straight up good. It's pretty beautiful to look at and it's fun to play. I love the sound and music.

It's very arcade-y in nature, for sure. Having said that, the gameplay is also predictable: although you'll get different types of waves, you get very similar ones at similar times. It's balanced and eases you into gameplay, but the start is also fairly boring after you've played a few times. Conversely, later in your run things will get ridiculously hectic.

This was the first game I had played where I had a lot of issues with my controller(s). I've had similar issues elsewhere now, but Geometry wars (when I started it a few years ago) was only really programmed for the 360 controller. Other controllers would sort of work, but the game didn't really understand the input so much (for example, the game couldn't detect "Up" on my ps2 controller).

While this is one of my favorite chill out games, I'll probably only play it for about 15 minutes at a time and then not touch it for a few months. It's great fun for sure, but it's also a very redundant game.

If you don't already have it, though, you absolutely need Geometry Wars in your library.

This game is simple yet fun. This reboot of the classic arcade game features beautiful colors, graphics, and an intuitive design. The fast pace, second by second, adrenaline pumping action of this game really pulls you in. Trying to achieve a new high-score or to simply enjoy the reactionary gameplay, it offers great replay value for a cheap price.

This game is a "late-at-night-pass-time-im-bored" classic... Seriously, this game might not offer hours of fun straight, but it will definetly get you coming back for more now and then... It is a minesweeper or windows pinball on steroids and alot of coke....

You will play for 5-10 min max or untill you chew the controller in nerd rage. This game aint for chilling... its a challenging, nerve wrecking, amphetamine experience....

love it or hate it. but get pumped in 3 mins
