"My video is way out of date on this one but CS remains an extremely popular multiplayer shooter for a very good reason. Nothing beats the tension."

About This Game

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO) will expand upon the team-based action gameplay that it pioneered when it was launched 14 years ago.

CS: GO features new maps, characters, and weapons and delivers updated versions of the classic CS content (de_dust, etc.). In addition, CS: GO will introduce new gameplay modes, matchmaking, leader boards, and more.

"Counter-Strike took the gaming industry by surprise when the unlikely MOD became the most played online PC action game in the world almost immediately after its release in August 1999," said Doug Lombardi at Valve. "For the past 12 years, it has continued to be one of the most-played games in the world, headline competitive gaming tournaments and selling over 25 million units worldwide across the franchise. CS: GO promises to expand on CS' award-winning gameplay and deliver it to gamers on the PC as well as the next gen consoles and the Mac."

CS:GO does what CS:S did but better.
There's a wider variety of weapons and maps now, as well as some new game modes, such as death match, which is probably the only game mode I have ever played in any multiplayer game ever. Second, the AI has been overhauled and playing against bots is now actually fun... unlike in CS:S. Which leads me to my next point...

Unfortunately, I have to recommend only playing offline against bots, since playing against human players is almost as impossible as in CS:S. Long story short, if you join any given server, you will invariably get hit with a headshot completely out of nowhere. Then, you spawn again in the next round, and while you are plotting your revenge, it will happen again.
The learning curve in CS:GO's multiplayer is so freaking steep that you need a ladder to climb it. I'm not even kidding.
And, of course, beginner servers are nearly hard to find, and if you looking around for any, you will find expert players who say that "you won't get better unless you let us dominate you in public servers."
Yeah, uh, no thanks.
CS:GO is a great game as long as you are fighting bots.

Valve doesn't care if people cheat. Literally every aspect of this game has become cancer and its too bad because it was a pretty good game before that.

Garbage. Same content as source but worse mechanics. I wonder how long it took to make it. Why do all games in this genre only get worse? I guess this is better than what happened to COD.

I used to really like this game, but as time passed on so did my interest in it.

I lost the entertainment value this game had, it became very bland. There wasn't any playing the game for fun, as a guy with really no friends to play with, it was solo queue competitive for me. From there, I realized that the games community can be very toxic. and it became less enjoyable to play every day. I started playing less, instead opting to gamble the virtual skins, which techincally can be bought and sold for real money either through the community market or on a third party site. That was the the beginning of the end for me and this game, I started blowing tons of cash on the game, and if wasn't for a friend of mine who told me I really need to stop, I would probably still be doing it.

The two main reasons I cannot recommend this game is:
1. Toxicity:
This really ruined the feeling I had of wanting to actually play the game, for every one nice or chill person I met, there was 10 others who might act okay at first, but if you don't meet their expectations of skill for a match, they unleash their rage and discontent at you because you're risking their online status of how good they are at a video game, their rank. Community servers and third party matchmaking services didn't really help either. Third party matchmaking services were a bust for me, where you had the risk of enraging people even more for risking their rank and making their gametime less fun because of your lack of skill on something they've now paid extra for, for the quality promised from the service, or the risk of playing on a free service where no one really had to care, they could throw and troll and the consequences would be minimal, as it wasn't on official matchmaking.

2. Gambling:
I'm biased here, but this I feel this is a big problem which isn't addressed enough by the developers or the community enough. Everyone reading this probably has a good understanding of the negative effects of gambling, but it should still be said, it's addictive and it's not worth it no matter how much you think it is. Don't fall for the "Free skins" or "Really good odds" trap where they try to trick you into thinking you'll have an easy time of making money quickly.

Overall, I cannot recommend this game anymore, as all I can view from it anymore is toxicity and gambling addictions.

This review is for casual gamers and not competitive gamers.

As a gamer I recommend games that: are fun to play, help relax the mind, tell great stories, make the player philosophy, and aspire challenge. However, I cannot recommend a game when it creates an enviornment that compromoses these principles and fissures our moral codes.

The Worst of CSGO

  1. CSGO has the worst player community on Steam / Reddit
    - It's really no secret just how bad the CSGO community is; The players can be extremely racist, sexist, abusive, vulgar, and obnoxious. The toxicity can be seen in player profiles with racist/sexist/"meme" usernames, avatars, groups, etc.

    - The Steam discussion section and Reddit page aren't any better; it's best to actually avoid any forums that talk about CSGO.

  2. CSGO is plagued with cheaters, griefers, and smurfs
    - This is also a well known issue that has yet to be addressed by Valve. CSGO's competative is swamped with: cheaters who use scripts and cheat engines; griefers who throw games and harass other players; and smurfs who demoralize new players.

    - As of the date of this review (6/16/2016), the Prime Beta is on going. However, it isn't evident if Prime with solve the issue with cheaters and surely won't solve the issue with griefers and smurfs.

  3. CSGO's ranking system is broken
    - If your in any silver rank, you know exactly what im talking about. Valve recently changed the ranking system in order to reduce the number of "Global Elite" ranked players in competative. Unfortunately, their actions also congested the starting competative ranks of silver, making it extremely difficult to rank out of silver, progress in skill, or enjoy competative with people of your same skill level.

-compound this issue with the above problems, and you have CSGO matchmaking in a nutshell.

Conclusion

CSGO is an extremely competative game that throws away common decency for the sake of what some can call "fun". If your a casual gamer or someone who is new to video games, avoid this game completely; This game will be completely frustrating and devoid of fun for casual players and drive away new players from the medium of video games.

- For casual players and new players I would recommend: the Battlefield series, Arma series, DOOM, Chivalry, Team Fortress 2, Garry's Mod, Sniper Elite series, and / or Overwatch.
