Reviews

“This is where Universe Sandbox succeeds brilliantly: players experience godly power to create or destroy, while almost unavoidably learning something about the physical properties of our universe.”

About This Game

Create and destroy on a scale you've never imagined with the ultimate space simulator.

Harness the power to create black holes, collide galaxies, and manipulate gravity with just a few clicks. Inspired by the software astronomers use to unlock the mysteries of our universe, never before has astronomy been so interactive or so much fun.

Spawn a massive moon to tear apart Saturn’s rings or launch a rogue star to rip the planets from their orbits around our sun. After unleashing catastrophic destruction, create your own solar system and share it with friends.

This is one of those meta-sim-sandbox-edu-tutorial-discovery games that are so common these days, but it's still tough to explain what you can actually DO, if not what it actually IS, so let me try to explain with a brief anecdote.

Years ago, my kids wanted a dog. They begged for some unspecified period of time, until one day we were driving along and saw a 'free puppy' sign at a farm. We stopped, and wound up taking home what the farmer told us was a 'purebred Welsh Olive Hound'. Thing is, when we took it to the vet for shots, we found out it was actually a toaster oven.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that Universe Sandbox looks like a game, but it's a lot more like a toaster oven. Everyone should have one, but it won't be fetching you any sticks.

If you are into sandbox style simulations, this is the game for you. This game allows you to create different scenarios and even create interesting things in space. The game does seem to be a bit complex in some areas but just because I couldn't get a hang on it, doesnt't mean everyone wont. One of my personal favorite scenarios to play out in it was to simulate the collision of the Milky Way and Andromeda Galaxy that is projected to happen in a few billion years.

Graphics: 8 - Simple simulation model
Sound: 8 - Interesting sounds
Gameplay: 9 - Game mechanics are interesting, learning curve
Story: 6 - Not much of one, just have fun

Very mixed feelings about this game. Bought it since I'm really into astronomy, but it's only fun for about 15 minutes. Then it gets boring. Overall, only buy if you want to download mods so you can add ridiculous objects and make them orbit around Gaben's head, or something.

This game is out of this world (pun intended). It offers a wide variety of physics to be used in the game, such as mass and velocity counter. For only 10 dollars, I think it's money well spent.

It's like Google Earth on acid! Basically, you can create a lot of things inside a universe and do what you please with them, even if it means destroying the hell out of them. It's pretty much just a toy with no purpose except for entertainment, and that entertainment is fulfillled here. The ultimate God simulator.

This is a wonderful simulator, anyone with an interest in space, astronomy, or just wants to watch mercury whiz around the sun should certainly consider picking this up.

The UI is cumbersome at first and it will take some getting used to, they have done well to hide most of the complexity slightly out of sight until you look for it which certainly helps ease you into it.

For what it does and what it offers, it's exactly what it claims to be and I can't help but commend the design team for it and recommend others to try it.

All negative reviews I've seen either had technical issues with it, or were clearly expecting something different. I also don't get why people keep saying it's not a game, it doesn't even claim to be one... doesn't mean you can't have fun in it.

The title is pretty much self-ex-planetary.

If you're into being God, Cosmology, Astronomy, Asstrology, Physics, Gravity, Mass, Destruction, or Snow-globes, this is for you!

It's not really a 'game'. There is no objective, you can't fail, it's not a game. It's a fun little tool that you play with for a bit. If you come into this expecting a game, you're going to be dissapointed. It's just a program where you mess around with solar systems. If you are looking for a 'game', buy something else. If you are looking for a bit of mindless fun to kill some time, buy this.
