Sonic Generations is a game I never got to play back when it came out. I never had a 3DS, Xbox 360, or PS3, and I never knew about Steam, so I honestly wasn't able to play it. But now I have a 3DS and this game, and it is Awesome! This game is literally one of the Fastest Sonic Games to date! I'm glad I bought this game on Steam, because if I hadn't, I wouldn't have met some really cool friends in Time Attack. However, I didn't have an Xbox 360 Controller so I was stuck with the Keyboard, so make sure you get an Xbox 360 or PS3 Controller hooked up to your PC.

Controls:
PC: 6/10
Xbox 360/PS3: 9/10

Graphics: 8/10

Sound: 9.5/10

Gameplay: Gets repetitive at times. 8.5/10

Average Rating: 8.2/10

Go buy it if you missed out on the Xbox 360 or PS3 Release. Otherwise, just leave it be.

Sonic Generations isn't the best Sonic game ever, but almost took the title

Sonic Generations is, basically, a bomb of pure nostalgia.

This game was made, mainly, for the fans, players who like platforming, fast-paced games, run through stages like there's no tomorrow, or just keep modding the game until it turns perfect (on the PC version, of course), for those kind of players, this game is very good, but for the fans, it's almost perfect.

Awesome controls, awesome stage design, awesome models and animations, everything in this game is awesome, but like all the things in the universe, it's not perfect, some few bugs, very tiny bugs, will occur sometimes, but nothing that a "Start Over" won't solve, like in the Shadow Rival Battle, when Shadow keeps running into the wall, it's almost impossible for this to happen.

The stages from past games that were remade to Sonic Generations, were very well chosen, highlighting Classic Crisis City, the troll stage, along with 4 bosses, one from each era of Sonic The Hedgehog series, and one just for Sonic Generations, and 3 Rival Battles.

The soundtrack... well... it's just... perfect! Hear the new Escape From the City remixes it's a holy sound to everybody's ears, highlighting Modern Rooftop Run, my favorite from the entire soundtrack.

The modding community just turns the PC version even better, with new stages, other Sonic series characters, even characters that are not from the series. Dario ff/Samothethief and the Team Unleashed made a flawless job with the "Unleashed Project" a mod that adds all the main day stages from Sonic Unleashed, this mod it's just perfect for the people who played Sonic Unleashed and liked it.

And now... for the thing:

Pros:
-Awesome graphics
-Easy controls for both Sonics
-Nostalgia bomb
-Flawless soundtrack
-Well done stages
-Easter eggs (Most of them are on the Adventure Era)
-The price.

Cons:
-Almost no challenge.
-Easy stages and bosses, if you're an expert in Sonic games, don't do normal mode, go on Hard mode.
-Very short game, you can finish it in 2-4 hours.
-Just Classic and Modern Sonic as playable characters.

"Sonic Generations is a epic game, it is an awesome game on it's own, with mods, it's even better, i am a huge Sonic The Hedgehog fan, and i'm proud that i bought this game"

9.0/10 - Rick The Hedgehog

Okay. Some people are wondering "how can she have so many hours on that game?"

I'll tell you my secret:

I'm always angry.

Wait, no. That's not right.

The secret is that I own a small desk cycle I can put right at my feet. So I pick up my controller and do time attacks in this game while I sweat out the cardio. Makes for a great workout, cause of the sense of motion. Working out the body, mind, and reflexes - ho! I highly recommend it.

This game, Gauntlet, and Dyad are my favorites for exercising.

So that's the story. Beyond that, I mean, it's the best Sonic game released since Sonic Adventure. Honestly, it's better than Sonic Adventure, because it's purely Sonic play, none of this other character crap. I play Sonic games to whiz through levels and be a blue badass, not flop around as corpulent purple cat and go fishing. WTF, Sega. Sometimes. You guys.

Sonic Generations is a pleasure to play, coming from a long-time Sonic fan. It serves as a 'love letter' of sorts to old-school Sonic fans. It is technically very unrated, with the Hedgehog Engine now being very versitile and with few bugs (in my experience) and quite a bit more polish since it's first appearance in Sonic Unleashed. The levels are rich with detail and personality, and none of the game feels rushed or cheapened. The story is forgettable and you WON'T find yourself invested in it in the slightest. SEGA definately put a lot of effort and affection into this title. In my oppinion, this game raises the bar again... But for how long... :p

This review is based on my own experience with the game. I understand that other people may have more positive experiences than I did, but this review isn't based on that. This is about the troubles I faced trying to get this game to work, and the terrible response the game gave me in return. Thank you for understanding.

Sonic Generations is a great game. The intense platforming style of Sonic is one of the greatest gaming experiences that you will ever play. But the game was definitely made with consoles in mind.

The story in Sonic Generations is definitely generic, but it's not dislikeable. All of Sonic's friends have prepared a birthday picnic for him. Before they know it, everyone is sucked up by 'time holes' and scattered in different places in history. Sonic is then knocked out by the Time Eater, who created the time holes, and ends up a sort of purgatory, known only as White Space. He then rescues Tails, only to find that they both have previous versions of themselves, a 3D version of their original forms in the earlier Sonic the Hedgehog games. Both of the Sonics then have to travel through time to rescue his friends and stop the Time Eater.

I have no problems with the game itself, and from what I have seen, it runs perfectly on the PS3, Xbox 360 and 3DS. But the PC port of Sonic Generations was awful. If you have never used an Xbox controller before, you're in trouble, because the game has all the controls written out with A, B, X and Y. This makes keyboard controls confusing, and I often sat there trying to remember what the Enter button incase I stuffed something up.

The game also performs poorly, and even with the graphics on medium, I was only getting around 15-20 frames per second on a PC that could handle other games of the same graphical quality well. I was extremely disappointed, and also did not enjoy the settings for the game, which opened in a completely different window, and were confusing to change.

Fortunately, I kept this game installed knowing that Microsoft was soon releasing the drivers for the Xbox One controller, so I plugged it in, hoping that Sonic Generations would respond to that. It did, and I was able to play the game well. But, being that I was recieving a minimal frame rate, I lost interest and played other games that I enjoyed and knew ran well.

To sum up, Sonic Generations looks like an amazing game for console, but poor PC porting means that desktop players are left with no choice but to use a controller, and tolerate a low frame rate. If you are looking at getting Sonic Generations, don't buy it for PC.

3.2/10

The truest return to form the Sonic franchise could ever have. Generations polishes the gameplay from Unleashed (Daytime) and Colors to absolute perfection for the Modern Acts while perfectly emulating the feel of Genesis gameplay in the Classic Acts. If you've ever enjoyed a Sonic game in the past, this is a must-have.

Sonic Generations Review by nikfan
PLOT 6/10
I liked the plot of this game... But it was really short and was not going anywhere! I really liked Classic and Modern Sonic as characters in this game and Time Eater was interesting before we saw the obvious reveal that the "The Time Eater" was controlled by Eggman and the Dr."PINGAS" Robotnik.
GAMEPLAY 9.5/10
I must say... This is maybe the most fun I've had with a Sonic Game. I think the control is near perfect, the level design is interesting and not "tunnel like". It's a saferide that will give you a lot of pleasure if you are a Classic Veteran or a Modern Veteran(I can't say this for myself... I started out with the Adventure formula... But I still get enjoyment out of Modern and Classic Sonic) But I still think(For me atleast) Modern Sonic was more enjoyable, with all the speedrunning tricks and that speed. Sega got fast with this game...
GRAPHICS 9/10
Graphics look really good. It looks better than Colors and is somewhere on the same level with Sonic Lost World. But it's still not as beatiful as Unleashed. But you can add Unleashed Graphics thanks to the Modding Community.
MUSIC 10/10
This is a soundtrack I really enjoyed. All of the tracks were enjoyable and nostalgic giving it that Anniversary feel. My favourite tracks are Sky Sanctuary(all of them), Crisis City(Act 1) and City Escape. I also really enjoy Speed Highway Act 1. That track just sounds like it should be played in a Night Club and I love it :3
REPLAYABILITY 10/10
When the game is pretty fun to replay and speedrun... I must say, one of the best thing about this game is the Modding Community. They work on outstanding mods and they do come out freaquently. So it's a perfect way to come back to the game and try out some awesome modifications people came up with...
OVERALL SCORE: 8.5/10
I really liked this game. But I wanted more from the plot...
P.S: Perfect Chaos is... Awesome

As a longtime fan of Sonic's early work on the Sega Genesis, I was thrilled to see his "classic" incarnation return for Generations. While I probably had the most fun blasting through the 3D "modern" takes on the first three games, the 2D levels were still a nice throwback.

Mirroring Sonic's actual career, this game gets a bit worse as you go, culminating in what is probably the most nonsensical, poorly designed boss fight that I've ever had the misfortune of experiencing. But overall, it's a must play for new and old fans alike.
