Cult Classic's Sequel
Golden Axe II continues where its first game left off. The Story was insignificant in first game and so its pretty much on second game too, lot of gameplay elements were kept from first game but they revamped the Magic system and made it more logical where you can choose how much of magic pots you will be using instead of using them all like in the first game.

They also added a new Back Spin Attack that you can use by pushing jump and attack at same time, this gives you some good advantage when enemies are trying to pincer you.

Golden Axe™ II is lot easier than the first game and some people complained about (honestly maybe first game was too hard for some) and the difficulty of course drops if you are playing co-op with a friend (Something that i recommend for better experience).

Overall the game has neat soundtrack, good gameplay, while its short its still kinda enjoyable experience if you can find a buddy to play with.

So this is the last of the mega drive games I bought on steam and this one was a bit of a disappointment. It very much feels like the same game as Golden Axe. The graphics have been improved and the levels are different but that is about it. The gameplay still does not flow as well as Streets of Rage. So my final conclusion to this series of Mega Drive reviews is get anything you have personal nostalgia for but Sonic 3 and Streets of Rage 2 really hold up to the test of time as very good games.

Golden Axe II is a simple side scroller beat em up. I don’t have many fond memories of playing this game as a kid, I definitely do not find any enjoyment out of playing it now in the 21st century. The gameplay is stupid easy, it’s super short, and the cliche story really brings nothing of value. There are no platform hopping like contra and there are no fun boss fights or map design like sonic. If you’re going to play a Sega Genesis game, I wouldn’t start with this garbage title.
