“I completed the level and was reduced to disturbingly orgasmic cries. I haven’t felt as good with a videogame, in that direct physical way, for quite a while.”
Kieron Gillen, Rock, Paper, Shotgun
“I can't say enough good things about VVVVVV. It's Terry Cavanagh's best game to date, and one of the best platformers I've ever played. If you have any interest in challenging platformers whatsoever, you'd be doing yourself a disservice not to pick up VVVVVV.”
10/10 – Anthony Burch, Destructoid
“...it would be wrong to let the sheer fiendishness of Cavanagh’s offering overwhelm any appreciation of the ceaseless elegance of the design.”

VVVVVV is perhaps the most fun I've ever had being tortured with a game this side of Super Meat Boy.

It's a sublime DOS inspired platformer where inverting the gravity has replaced your jump button, requiring you to completely rethink how you approach a level. Platforms are setup in a way that require incredibly precise, conscious flips and movement to surpass, at times feeling almost impossibly difficult. But VVVVVV is never unfair, offering you an abundance of checkpoints and excessively precise controls that caused me to surprise myself with what I was capable of.

The nonlinear design also allows you to opt out of some of the most challenging rooms, or revisit them later when you feel better in tune with the game. Completing the game will test your mettle regardless, but the sense of accomplishment and the ever present feeling that you can possibly surpass any challenge given just one more time makes it impossible to give up and extremely rewarding when you do eventually succeed (though all the same, "Doing it the hard way" will forever haunt my nightmares).

VVVVVV's vision is so strong and consistent, that even though the experience lasts only a few hours it was so incredibly fun and well put together that I never noticed the short length as I was simply having too good a time getting my ♥♥♥ handed to me again and again. That's probably a peculiar way to recommend a game, but VVVVVV is something of a peculiar game, coming out of essentially nowhere, putting blisters on my fingers, and making me curse and rejoice over and over while what can only be described as the best music to ever enter your ear holes played in the background.

It's good, so just play it already won't you?!

VVVVVV takes you back in time. Back to a time where games where simple, and didnt require any messy story, or fancy visuals to impress you. A time where gameplay was the number 1 priority, and king of games.
This is not a bad thing. Quite the opposite, actually.
Whit addicting, spot on retro style gameplay and visuals, VVVVVV is hard to put away.
And the amazing soundtrack really puts the nail in the coffin.

VVVVVV ( 6 V's) is a short platforming game which the only thing u can do is move and walk either on the ground or on the ceiling!? The dynamics in this game looks like it was made on an NES but is actually on multiple consoles like Wii, PS3,Xbox, and PC but are in their own digital shops.
You play as Viridian, a captain of his ship that was crashed in a mysterious universe called Dimension V. All of the members of the ship are teleported to diffrent areas or the dimension. You must search the entire dimension for ur lost members with ur abilty to go up or down. The achivements in this game are really hard to get especially beating no death mode since your always going to have at least 50 deaths. While ur exploring the dimension, u will encounter trinkets which dont do anything until u find 20 of them but i wont spoil it for u. Every room is quite puzzling and u might do some backtracking which is every gamers nightmare (im talking to u Metroid).
This game gets 8 out of 10 because the game is really short and u can probably beat the game in less than 3 hours depending how good u are.

VVVVVV is a simple platformer released in 2010 which simplifies it's basics into one rule: what if you reverse gravity instead of jumping? This is an interesting rule used in this game and it impacts on how you play the game, too. No skill is required to play this game; you can simply pick up the game and discover things as you go through.

So, VVVVVV is about Captain Viridian and his crew in space on the D.S.S Souleye, which then the flight to an unknown area has been interrupted, and the crew has to evacuate, however the evacuation goes wrong and Viridian is left on his own requiring him to save his crew members in Dimension VVVVVV. The plot seems interesting, however the only thing concerned is that the characters never mention the year, assuming it is in the future due to the teleport technology used. They do not also mention age, and gender, although colors and personality shape the genders of the characters.

The difficulty of the game is similar to Super Meat Boy: the difficulty is simple on the first stages like the introduction level and onward from the Lab, it gets challenging.

Overall, this game is good except the fact that if you don't like difficulty, please leave.
I'd rate this game a 9/10.

This game also has good music. BUY THE SOUNDTRACK!

Enjoyable game. It has a good story as where something happens to the ship and everyone gets spreaded apart. I like that, it makes the game more fun that way. I do suggest this game for you guys.

shiny, 8bit, AGGRIVATING, trinkets!

I bought VVVVVV a long time ago, just when people were playing the "demo" online and such, and I can't disagree that this is a great indie creation.

I'm not going to lie - I've gotten so angry at this game, little parts of game/getting really hard to reach trinkets almost set me off from this game, but I have to admit I do like the game layout/map system that this game has, the great soundtrack that's suitable for the game.

I've played this completely once, and since Steam Achivements were released, I will be completing it again.

Video games can either be tremendously unique, or so unimaginative and boring you completely forget that it ever existed. Luckily, VVVVVV isn't like that. There's just so many things that make VVVVVV so enjoyable. This is game exceeded my expectations immensely, even if I did find myself constantly challenged by some levels that even hardcore button pressers would struggle to master.

When you first start playing VVVVVV, you are thrown straight into the cataclysmic life of a desperate but forever-smiling Captain Veridian, aboard a giant spaceship that has just smashed into something that is only described as "dimensional interference". Veridian and the rest of his crew leap into a conveniently located teleporter, but instead of all teleporting to the same place, they are spat out into a different dimension, called Dimension VVVVVV. Veridian must then rescue his lost crew and find out the cause of the "dimensional interference".

The game is displayed in a beautiful 2D pixel-art style world, remeniscent of video game systems like the Commodore 64. The world has a vast variety of colours, and the levels range from simple plaforming to others that require ultimate precision and timing. VVVVVV's world may be short, but its highly demanding design, along with a great chipset soundrack will keep you on your toes.

Overall VVVVVV is a creative and amusing platformer, and although its overall story is short, what it lacks in size it makes up for in difficulty.

V (x6) is a puzzle platformer with simple graphics and strange colors. It certainly is challenging, but not really engaging. I have to admit that I'm not a fan of simple jump 'n' run games, thus my assessment is very subjective, but I wasn't hooked.

Just to be difficult is not enough given those no too tight controls. Almost impossible achievements.

I want to like this game.....but compared to so many other sidescrollers, it isn't very good. bad gameplay, bad graphics, bad art, and a story that doesnt grab your attention. VVVVVV probably isn't worth your time or money.

Gameplay- They took a simple control scheme and made it simpler (simpler? more simpler? Whatever, you know what I mean). You can't jump, instead you just reverse gravity to fall up and down. This is supposed to make it difficult, but it isn't as hard as you will be told, and forgiving checkpoints make it even easier. Oh, and exploring the open is a huge pain in the ♥♥♥, chances are you will get lost.

Graphics- More retro than a Megaman game. It's indie pixels, which I would usually like if they added a good artstyle to it...they didn't. VVVVVV's artstyle is a headache inducing mesh of rainbow colors that don't really match. If you don't like bright colors and fast moving shapes, don't buy this game.

Sound- So this is a part of the game i actually liked. The music was also retro like Megaman, but it was also really catchy like Megaman. Probably the games only good part.

Story and Replayability- I actually lost interest in the story after the first hour, if anything interesting happened please tell me because I just skipped over all the dialogue after that (probably not a good thing because I'm reviewing this game but hey, it can't be that good if I got bored of it right?). The game itself could easilly be beaten in a day, unless you get stuck on one part for a REALLLLLY long time. Oh, there is a level editor, but while would you play player-edited levels if the developer made levels wern't that good to begin with?

Conclusion- So yeah, I don't like this game, pretty crap if you ask me. the music was kinda catchy, but the gameplay was crap, the graphics and art were crap, and the story might be crap. I've heard of a few people who do like this game though, so this game might be better than I'm telling you. But I'll never recommend it.

VVVVVV is a 2D platformer where the ability to jump is replaced with the ability to flip gravity. This simple change allows for an interesting change on navigating the large map.

That being said, everything else about this game is terrible.

The controls are simple, left and right arrow keys move you left and right respectively, and the up arrow key to flip graviy. Too bad though you can't nudge yourself into the position you need by simply tapping the corresponding keys. If you want to move in the game, you have to commit. It might have just been my imagination, but there were numerous times where I felt like I was sliding after I let go of movement keys, which should never happen in a platformer. Also, you have to have to wait for the game to recognize your on the ground for you to flip gravity. The wait is usually just a fraction of a second, which doesn't sound too bad, until you get later into the game. In which case it becomes a nightmare.

Enough ragging on the controls. They can be forgiven if the game is fun right? Well, the game was kind of 'meeh' for me. The game started out alright, some introductary rooms to show you how the gravity functions work, let you get used to moving around, etc. Then you have the ability to die via spikes. I think I wouldn't be so sore about the spikes if the creators wouldn't have decided that these where the only things to kill you, and if they didn't use them overzealously. Also god forbid that I mention that you'll need premonition so that way the game won't screw you over with the screen transitions, which happen everytime you move towards the edge.

Argue difficulty all you like, because that was not the best. If I learned one thing from people yelling game design at me, is that a good game has a good difficulty curve. This game just decides to jack up the difficulty from the start, and stay there. That didn't seem to help me enjoy the game. It made it more monontonous.

Take this review with a grain of salt. You may like these kinds of games, but I can't tell you to not buy it. All I can say is that I've played through the entire game, And I wouldn't recomend it.
