New Update!

Hi everyone!

Another week, another update. Here is the list of everything that I have for you in this version.

• Increased variation in failed request responses
• Volume level is now stored between play sessions
• The pot shop reflects pots purchased right away
• Succulents are less likely to grow through the pot
• Reordering seeds from your card collection no longer breaks the book
• The number of visible 'read' emails has been increased
• You can now right click to go back when looking at a seed packet
• Succulents no longer change size on game load
• Trees won't change colour on game load (how did I not notice this before?)
• Pressing escape when paused doesn't reply the animation.

This is everything that I have on my list so far, but please do let me know if you have any more problems. When the game is solid enough to not be buggy, I will be able to spend more time working on new features.

As ever, thank you for your support! Every new Botanist counts, so if you know someone who might like the game, please let them know, and bring them into our community!

Bug Forum

Hi everyone,

I have set up a new forum for bug reporting, so if you spot anything new it would be super helpful if you could start a thread on there.

I'm going through the forum now to make sure that I have everything recorded, and I will update you all when I have a new version of the game ready.

Cheers!
James

The Background

One night, in mid 2016, I (James Biddulph, Developer) couldn't sleep, so I got up and made a little garden simulator. I was stressed out, and living in the city, but nature and open, green spaces, always helps to calm me down. I didn't think much of it at the time, but I made the game generate a random plant based upon a random word. It was super rough, and didn't look great, but I was just making it to take my mind off things.

I showed this little game to a few people, and it seemed to connect with them. I noticed that people would always do very similar things the first time that they played. They would type in their own name, their pets name, loved ones etc, to see what kind of plant would grow. It was amazing to see them connect the plant to the person. Maybe the plant was very chaotic and messy, which made them think of their cat, or tall and graceful like their partner.

I saw this happen with enough different people to convince me that I should turn this idea into a full game. I hope that it connects with more people, and maybe even helps you if you are having a hard time, like the original prototype did with me.
