What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“DESOLATE is quite a large game, filled with different types of content - so naturally, for a small team like ours, working out all the kinks and bugs while developing new content would be the best possible option. We are ready to show our game to the world, but are still on our way to making DESOLATE realise its full potential.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“It’s quite early to name a concrete length for DESOLATE’s time in Early Access, but we are currently planning to spend no less than 6 months polishing and finalising the gameplay on its way to the game’s full release.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“It goes without saying that the full version of the game is going to be more stable and have less bugs than the Early Access version available for purchase now. Story Missions and other types of gameplay content will be added to DESOLATE, and the game may be balanced and tweaked according to community feedback.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current version of the game is fully playable, and has 2 Story Acts out of 3 currently planned, as well as the ability to explore the island in both single player and multiplayer with up to 4 people in total.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes, there are plans to raise the price on the release of the full version. We plan to add several Story Acts as well as other gameplay content before 1.0, so the price will change according to the new content and features.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We deeply appreciate community feedback. Something that’s really important to us is how players experience the game, and therefore community feedback will play a key role in determining the way DESOLATE will move forward towards release. We actively engage our community on our Discord Server, as well as the game’s Discussion Boards on Steam, so be sure to leave any feedback you might have.”

0.7.56 — Fixes, Rebalancing and Optimization

Hello, Volunteers!

Next patch is already here.

Changes & Additions:

  • Changed the maximum number of item slots in containers to 63 - this is set to fix multiple server connectivity issues. If you had more than 63 unique items in your Stash, we highly recommend re-organizing it in Solo play, since any additional loot will disappear during online play.
  • On inventory overload, character movement is now 50% lowered.
  • You can now skip in-game dialogue.
  • Enemy’s stun rate lowered across all enemy types
  • Monstrum can now be accessed from the start
  • Character’s backward movement is now 25% slower
  • Game now automatically backs up save files every 10 minutes. Save files can be located at: C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Desolate\Saved\SaveGames

  • Several crash and freeze-related optimisation issues fixed.
  • Fixed an issue with enemy’s HP bar disappearing in some cases.
  • If you needed a quest item, and took it out of a container, the stack but not the intended amount - fixed.
  • Fixed an issue which caused Bread recipe not to appear
  • Fixed an issue which caused items in inventory to render invisible upon resuscitation.
  • Fixed incorrect marker placement in “Subway” location.
  • Fixed an issue with menu buttons rebinding .
  • Fixed “Population control” daily quest description
  • Upon killing an enemy his neck stretched out - fixed.
  • High rank items can now be used for crafting recipes which require low rank items.
  • Fixed an issue where healing items were rendered invisible in “Hospital” location during the main quest.
  • Fixed a progression issue in “Meteorology station” during main quest, where the antenna counter reset on death. When you come back to the quest zone it will show the correct number.
  • Fixed an issue where some quests would show up as “Missing String Table Entry” during online play - if this issue persists, do not hesitate to contact us.
  • After modding a weapon its initial durability raised to 150%, then went back to 99% after the first hit - fixed.
  • Changes to the Radio Tower main quest - we temporarily disabled the necessity to power up the station, just to turn on the transmission.

  • Sound optimisation:

>Available sound channels now limited to 128
>Footstep sounds re-sampled, duration of sound while running 50% lower
>Some non-distinct sounds from certain animations were removed
>Footstep sound overlayed while turning - fixed
>Added priority to some sound classes.

  • Level Design:

>Levitating vegetables put back into the ground - 6
>Semi-transparent stones fixed - 7
>Terrain pits fxed - 3
>Possible places for getting stuck fixed - 4

About This Game

Two years ago Granichny Island became an epicentre of a large-scale disaster of unknown origin. “The New Light” conglomerate covered up this catastrophic event - and now aims to rectify the consequences as much as they can.

A massive campaign is underway, during which so-called “Volunteers” - most of whom have never held a weapon in their hands - are sent out onto Granichny. Their mission - to research the paranormal activities of the island, gathering information and undertaking dangerous tasks, all in hope of amending mistakes of the past. None of them are ready for what comes next.

Play the role of a Volunteer, and explore a place filled with threats of every shape and size - from monsters and madmen to supernatural anomalies and seemingly impossible weather patterns. Journey through the present of this forsaken world to uncover its secrets.

  • Dark past

Explore the enigmatic island filled with abandoned settlements, military bases and top secret facilities. Investigate secrets of the island - find notes and diaries from Granichny’s previous settlers to uncover its mysterious history.
  • Research the threats

Battle for your life in open fights against monsters, marauders and soldiers, or use stealth to do critical damage out of the shadows. Research the creatures of Granichny - and gain advantages in battle while you learn more about them.
  • Strength Through Unity

Join a 4-player team to have a better chance at surviving the dangers of the island with unique team-based abilities, such as reviving your fallen team members - or act as a lone wolf to prove your mettle.
  • Thrive among the wastes

Unlock new abilities and train them to increase your chances of survival. Gather recipes and components to craft, modify and upgrade your weapons and equipment. Customize your Volunteer with new clothing and armor you scavenge throughout your journey on the island.
  • Resist the madness (Or let it consume you)

Take care of not only your physical condition, but your mental state as well. The insanity of Granichny will change the world around you, as well as yourself.

Survive, explore and investigate the dark world of DESOLATE, alone or with friends in a party of four.
