Aggressively mediocre.

It plays all right, but it doesn't have anything that sets it apart. It begs for sharp, colourful graphics (like Retro/Grade, perhaps?), but everything is too low-resolution, especially jarring on a large screen.

I have noticed that since I last played it about 2 years ago 1920x1080 is now a resolution option, but sadly it only affects the menus. The game itself is still square and seems to be stuck at something like stretched 1024x768.

Disappointing. I can't recommend it, even at $1.99. At $0.49 maybe, for curiosity's sake, but otherwise don't bother.

This game might not be fore everyone. Hence some of the negative reviews. But if your into twitch shooters, STG's/SHMUPs, or games seemed to be inspired by Jeff Minter, this game is for you.

Honestly Not worth it, & mostly due to the nature of the music & audio being very painful & .... honestly bad for anything but setups that can filter out bad base, terrible audio the levels of bootlegged media bad (not filled with people talking, but with.. ... poor sound quality.

http://www.gamersgate.com/DD-BCP/bullet-candy-perfect

For a better version, do not buy until patched/upgraded... even with a high discount price. Money better spent on the better version.

utterly .... unforgivable that one would have to use audio correction to make it not painful to listen to.

Outside that the shooting is nice, fairly easy to setup, & isn't to bad just it's done far better in other games and their audio is great. (geometry wars:Retro evolved) which is just as cheap on steam & a much better title.

(will update review if this game ever becomes worth playing, as of now I'll just use the Gamers gate version which is far better in most ways, despite it's own problem)

Beautiful and fun arcade shooter in the vein of Shatter, and the simplicity of Asteroids.

First of all, really in the early stages of the game, it was not as exciting as it seemed, after the recent update has improved everything, including the gameplay that was even easier than before.

Only recommend to people who like ship and bullet hell games. If you are not one of these people, you will find this a horrible game and so do not recommend it...

Bullet Candy... ARE YOU ♥♥♥♥ING KIDDING 7 LIVES?!

(Skip the first section if you don’t want to hear me ranting about the difficulty spikes, and just read the last two sections and the rating)

Plain and simple, Bullet Candy is a twin-stick shooter where you fly a dinky little ship around space shooting other ships. And THANK GOD the developer put in those golden space ships that never ONCE helped me and had almost no purpose other than to give a score for the online leaderboards! Collecting can give you improved weapon damage? Guess what, NOT A SINGLE ♥♥♥♥ING TIME HAVE I GOTTEN THAT IN COMBAT, ONLY IN THOSE POINTLESS BONUS LEVELS! Killing enemies also drops power ups that float around at various speeds, giving you 3 laser instead of 1, an extra life, invincibility, and some more of those wonderful points. But for the amount of lives you lose you’d think they would give you more health, or even a second weapon booster. This game is fun for most of its levels and I easily lost track of time while playing them, but some levels have such huge difficulty spikes causing you to loose EVERY FRICKEN LIFE YOU HAVE ON THAT 1 LEVEL. Hell, I lost 7 trying to beat the third to last level. That’s another thing, they hit you with the hardest level (not even a boss fight) right before the boss fights! So let’s say you have 10 lives saved up, you get to level 49, and you lose 7 of your lives on that level, leaving you with 3 lives to beat the two boss levels with. You then maybe lose 1 life on the first boss(s), leaving 2 for the final fight. Then you have to dodge its laser tentacles, missiles and laser bursts, which I never successfully beat (almost always lost on level 49 and when I didn’t I was left with a fraction of my lives). And guess what? YOU DONT GET ANY LIFE DROPS FOR THE LAST FOUR TURNS! What’s that? Level 49 took all but one of your lives and you want a few extra? WELL TO BAD HERES SOME BOSSES! This just absolutely ruined the game for me, and they actually expect you to be able to beat the whole game without any lives lost for an achievement. My best was level 25 without any lost lives, and of course then I got hit with a difficulty spike. I’ve also heard there’s unlockable modes you can play, but I never got to experience them BECUASE of those difficulty spikes. I want the game to be hard I just don’t want it to be so hard I punch the wall. If I sound like I’m just ranting, well, I am because THIS WAS ALL ON NORMAL. NOT HARD NOT EXPERT, BUT NORMAL. Now with all that said, I can start talking more about the actual game and not the difficulty.

Now if you’re not playing to win, but instead just want to do something with a few spare minutes, then this can be pretty fun, or at least the first half of the game. There are the 3 standard difficulties, each putting you up against more and more enemies (I suggest normal if you want to beat all 51 levels and expert if you want to have a more fast paced game). There’s also an extended mode, where it adds 100 more levels, and also a turbo option, making the game go much faster. Having the game on expert with turbo mode activated is by far the most fun way to play this game.

The visuals, well, aren’t there. In the videos shown on the store page there are beautiful, vibrant colors and effects, but that’s not currently in the game. Nope. Just some minor explosions and ugly looking graphics, which really disappoints because that was the best thing this game has to offer, but nope. Not there. The music is pretty bad to, and luckily there’s the option to shut it off entirely.

I’m lucky I only spent a dollar on this game, but even on sale I couldn’t recommend this game, and from what I’ve heard you’d just be better off just buying Geometry Wars.

Pros:
turbo + Expert Difficulty = fun
online Ranking
big enemy variety
(if the visuals had stayed the same as in the video they’d be here to)

Cons:
Everything else

Rate: 3/10
Rate (if the visuals were same as in video): 4/10
Rate (if difficulty spikes disappeared): 6/10
Rate (if both the two problems above were fixed): 8/10

Bullet Candy is a decent time killer but lacks the polish to make it a truly addicting game. Honestly there is nothing really unique about this game. Everything it does, beat hazard or geometry wars probably does better. The only “new/outstanding” feature that bullet candy offers is the ability to collect pills floating around the maps to auto kills every enemy ship on the map instantly. This is of course no easy task as the game gets more chaotic towards the end game. Like Beat Hazard you have to dodge ships and bullets while destroying your adversaries. This game is of course not a cake walk, like beat hazard and many other top down shooters, dodging a bullet even by just a millimeter can save your life. Overall an ok time killer, but if you already had beat hazard and are short on money, don’t waste your time with this game.

Damn, I am not good at shumps, and this one beat me up. It feels good, controls good, and looks nice. However too many purples and pinks for me: I've played and beaten many other Shumps, but this one had me down at round 25 - I got there in 10 mins and spent another 10 mins trying to continue it again again, and decided I didn't feel like getting my ♥♥♥ handed to me all day. It would be TONS easy if they just gave it controls like SMASH TV.... then I would own at this game, but unfortunately if gives you the mouse cursor from your position, which is actually awful in use if you've played old Shumps and games like SMASH TV or TOTAL CARNAGE. Anyways, worth it on a sale if you like dodging bullets all day.

If this is candy, I don't want it. The goal is to kill enemies and get through as many waves as you can before you die. But it's missing something... Actually, not something, it's missing a lot. It misses personality, polish and fun. Do yourself a favor, skip this one.

A game should either explain it's controls and how it is meant to be played via tutorial or through an easy first level. This game, in and of itself and judged by the information which it provides to the player, is not playable.

After ten minutes of messing around with this I still can't figure out how I'm supposed to play it. There's no tutorial or explanation of the controls and the video on the store page didn't help.

The first time that I clicked "Start" I died three times in the first two seconds before I'd even touched the controls. There's no 3-2-1 count in, you just have to be ready to go the instant you hit start AND there's no pause or reset when you die. The second time I managed to extend that by mashing the WASD keys in a circular pattern but still was not able to figure out how I was supposed to score. Clicking the mouse while holding a WASD key seems to create some kind of beam (yay?) which makes some of the colored shapes get bigger (is this good? Bad?) Either way after twenty seconds or so I'm always typing "WWWAAAAAS" into a "High Score" screen within ten seconds of hitting go.

Apparently, there's a release of this game that completely reworks the graphics and makes the game much better overall. Don't be fooled; that's not the version of the game you're getting through Steam.

In all truthfulness, I can't think of a single bit of praise to give this game. The sound is terrible, the music sounds like it was made in Garageband in 10 minutes, the HUD and graphics quality is poor, and the enemy design is quite abysmal. The game does contain a unique gameplay mechanic - you can commit suicide, but you retain your score multiplier (crucial to setting highscores). Unfortunately, this seems like more of an excuse to get around the poorly designed enemies that flood the screen or fire too quickly for you to be able to stand a chance.

I don't think I have anything else I can say about Bullet Candy. Unless the developer's rework is brought to Steam and proves to fix the multitude of issues this game offers, I would avoid this game.

This is actually a pretty good little shooter game, with its cheap price going on now and the fact that it reminds me of a different version of geometry that other isometic spaceship shooter game, this is a fun little game that I am suprized by and recommend. At least while its cheap, because a buck is really the best price I feel that this game should be put into. So... final thoughts, its cheap, fun, and gets pretty crazy with bullets covering the screen.

This game has no redeeming qualities. I picked a random flash game from the internet, and it was better- as in, it was better in every single way better. This game is chaos. This game is like chewing on a bullet, thinking it was candy.
