Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect Early Access to last approximately 12 months, but this may change based on community feedback we receive during the course of implementing new heroes, enemies, and features listed in the future features roadmap.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version of Embers of War is much more than a Campaign and an Instant Action Mode, it's an escape into a brand new sci-fantasy universe sprawling with a millennia of lore pitting epic heroes and villains against each other in a fully cinematic experience.

Immediately following launch, we will be working on getting a basic co-operative multiplayer mode to play with friends. Smash and annihilate the enemy together!

Over the course of Early Access, we plan on implementing two additional playable races, the fearsome Tribal horde, and the incredibly dangerous Robot collective. Each new race will have two fully playable heroes, complete with their own ability kits, an exclusive set of selectable towers, and a unique playstyle that differs from the other races.

Once all three races are implemented into the game, we have a PvP mode that we're super excited to get into your hands. Get ready to battle your friends for bragging rights!

We also plan on adding Localization Support for several languages including French, Italian, German, Spanish, Russian, and Chinese.

As we update the game through the course of Early Access, it's important to remember that savegames may need to get wiped in order to deliver you the best possible experience.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“When we launch in Early Access, players will have access to the core components of the game in an early but playable state. The campaign / world map, first human hero, towers, and cores will be functional and available to play.

As we continue to develop the game, we will be constantly finding and tracking bugs, as well as collecting feedback about the feel of the game.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price will change upon release, but all Early Access versions will be automatically converted to the Deluxe Edition of the game for no additional cost.”

Incoming Hotfix



We're rolling out a hotfix that will address reported problems and add a few small features.

Improvements
  • The Intro Sequences now display a Loading Message
  • Intro Cinematic is now skip-able by pressing "Escape"
  • The Instant Action Menu has been Tweaked in preparation for a larger, incoming update

About This Game


Embers of War is different from other top-down isometric, tower defense games because it turns your towers into RPG characters while letting you swap between Hero action and tower defense. You'll invest time and resources into your tower’s development, making them more destructive, and at the same time use your Hero’s abilities to give you a tactical advantage.

While Embers of War is primarily a tower defense game, you will see Role-Playing, Real-Time Strategy, Visceral Action and Turn-Based Tactic elements mixed throughout. The goal of the game is to conquer and keep territories while unlocking Turrets and Cores that will allow you to progress further in the game.

Customizable Playstyle


You get to create your own playstyle within Embers of War. You can take a more action based approach, relying on Gwen to hack and slash your way to victory or a more tactical approach, carefully selecting ideal positions for your towers and blasting enemies from afar with Gavin.

  • Find and slot Cores that allow you to attack your enemy's offense instead of defense
  • Use the Hero that suits your playstyle
  • Will you pick Gwen for her damage, attitude, and jet pack?
  • Will you pick Gavin to support you on the battlefield with his energy blasts and fantastic beard?
  • Use Turret and Core combinations that let you control the battlefield

World Map Gameplay


Your World Map will be an essential tool in Embers of War!

Use the world map to move your Hero, while using the information on the map to decide if the Hero should try to conquer a new territory. You will need to keep track of what is happening around the world and make strategic choices on what to conquer or defend next!

Unique Enemies


You'll encounter a wide range of enemies in Embers of War. They won't just stand there and be pummeled by your towers, instead they all have unique abilities you'll need to watch out for!

  • Some enemies may attack towers
  • Some enemies may attack your Hero
  • Enemies may explode or take a sneakier approach to get what they want

Controller Support


When we approached adding support for controllers we treated it like it was its own game making sure that it felt natural to use a controller and not just tacked on and clunky. We want players who are used to a controller to be able to pick one up and instinctively dive right into Embers of War.
