Dungeon Defenders II - The Ambient Sounds of Etheria

So far we’ve given you quite a bit of insight into how our levels are developed visually from start to finish. There is, however, one final element that greatly contributes to the atmosphere of our beautiful maps: audio. Once our level designers have finished building and scripting a map, and our VFX artists have gone through to make sure everything is appropriately shiny, it’s finally time to implement sound.

When a map is ready for sound, my first step is to generate an audio asset list for our talented sound designer, Afshin Toufighian. It is during this process that I decide which environment pieces and effects will require an audio element and which areas of the map will require their own stereo ambient sound waves.

About This Game

Dungeon Defenders is a Tower Defense Action-RPG where you must save the land of Etheria from an Ancient Evil! Create a hero from one of four distinct classes to fight back wave after wave of enemies by summoning defenses and directly participating in the action-packed combat!
Customize and level your character, forge equipment, gather loot, collect pets and more! Take your hero through multiple difficulty modes and challenge/survival missions to earn more experience & even better treasure. Join your friends with 4-player online and local (splitscreen) co-op to plan your strategies together or compete in PvP Deathmatch.

Key Features

  • 4-player Online and Local Co-Op - Team-up with up to 3 friends to defend cooperatively, with character classes that support each other’s strengths and weaknesses. Dynamically combine local (splitscreen) and online players and leave/join any time, so that the game’s always full.
  • Tower-Defense Meets Action-RPG - Choose your class, customize your character & equipment, strategically assemble your defenses, and participate directly in action-packed battle to preserve your castle against the invading horde!
  • 4 Distinct Character Classes - Each character class has a different skill tree, set of towers, and even basic attacks! You can choose if you want to play stealthy, turn invisible, and plant traps behind enemy lines with the Huntress or go all out, block off choke points, and brutally beat your foes into submission with the Squire!
  • Loot and Level-Up - Grab the mounds of money and items that your defeated foes drop and trade them or store them for later use in your Item Box! Getting kills and completing waves earns you experience points, which can be used to upgrade your characters, skills, equipment, and towers on a per-statistic basis. Do you want to enhance Hit Points, Attack Rate, Damage, etc? The choice is yours... Store your massive overflow of money in the 'Mana Bank' and then spend it to improve your equipment or trade with other players. Proudly show off your best equipment in your own 'Adventurer’s Tavern', without fear of item theft!
  • Tons of Enemies and Huge Boss Fights - Over 100 simultaneous enemies will attempt to tear through your defenses and gigantic Boss Monsters will appear to rain down havoc upon everyone. Only by employing the most effective defensive strategies, teamwork, and strong characters will you defeat such devilish foes! Many enemy types run the gamut from big dumb Orcs swinging huge axes, to lithe Dark Elves that strike from the shadows, to crazy kamikaze goblins! Can you defeat the epic boss battles and collect the special loot while still defending your crystals?
  • Mission & Game Play Variety - Each level has a different visual setting, layout, enemy types, traps, and distinct surprises. To collect all the loot and reach the highest levels you must take your character through 4 difficulty modes, survival missions, challenge maps, and more! Some maps force you to have mobile defenses, guarding a crystal which warps around the map. Others have YOU attacking enemy encampments!
  • Collect and Trade Pets Online - A variety of pets exist to assist you in the land of Etheria, each with distinct behaviors. These pets can be leveled-up and customized to match your unique play-style. They can even be traded online with other players!
  • Secure Trading System - Afraid another player won't live up to their word? Use our secure trading system to trade your precious weapons, armor, and pets with other players online! Watch your name and fame spread online, as people seek out the best pet raisers or item forgers!
  • A Mountain of Stats - Every shot you take, kill you make, and defense you build is logged and recorded for posterity. Pore over the voluminous charts and graphs at the end of each session to analyze your team’s performance, quickly review your best statistics for each level, and compare your data online with other players to see who is the greatest hero of all. Furthermore, your Achievements are visible for all to see within your very own Adventurer’s Tavern, and the highest scores for each of your heroes are ranked on the worldwide leaderboards!
  • Dungeon Defenders Development Kit - Dungeon Defenders includes a free development kit where you can create and edit new Dungeon Defenders missions and more utilizing all of the existing Dungeon Defenders assets. Download and share these user created levels via Steam Workshop for an endless Dungeon Defenders experience!

Tower defense combined with third-person hack and slash. Creativity makes this game extremely fun. There are many different characters, each has other unique defences and abilities, a lot of interesting maps, challenges, opponents, equipment. Also the atmosphere of this game is fabulous. Music, graphics and game with your friends causing you want to return to it. Incredibly many well spent hours.

At first I was not interested into this game so I purchased it for my brother. Played once I had to purchase it for myself. I never have played an more addictive game, though I like the Tower Defense genre a lot. I don't think I need to write much more about the game due to my playtime of this game.

If you like Tower Defense then you have to play this game. It is frequently on sale so keep an eye at the stores of Steam, GMG, Humble Bundle and others.

Note: Be aware that the Linux and Mac version of this game has a few issues. I strongly advise to play it on a windows machine.

Probably one of the most time consuming games I have ever played, and I mean that in the most possitive way possible.
I have put countless hours into playing this game and it was all well spent.

All the gameplay is smooth, each class helps out the other when you get to higher difficulties. HOW COULD I FORGET THE BEST PART, THE LOOT SYSTEM, you're always looking for better quality items for your hero, and it's actually a nice grind.

I am not going to make a huge paragraph about this game but all I can say is, it's worth every penny. Buy it.

Dungeon Defenders is a 4 player co-op Tower Defence Action RPG. The Character Progression, Loot Gathering, Item creation & pet systems were very well blended in with the Strategy, Team work & Tower Defence. You can create a diverse Defence or Offence with the option of changing characters through the time limit between levels. Dungeon Defenders revolves around two very distinct phases, the build phase & the combat phase. Your main goal is to protect the Eternity Crystal with the two phases by using your build phase for defence systems against the enemy and upgrading and changing heros to add more builds. Then the Combat phase where you go hand in hand combat with the enemy line by running around to stop the enemy from attacking your Eternity Crystal. The key thing in Dungeon Defenders is presistance, because all your characters are presisting. Trendy Entertainment has done it again and in my personal review shows that it is everything in a downloadable title. I rate this game a Solid 10/10.

Not a game you'd want to play alone!

Dungeon Defenders is an amazing multiplayer game that combines both Tower Defense and Action RPG. The game itself is amazing, good graphics, pets, 12 classes, and a good storyline. After you finish the campaign, the challenges that you unlock are really fun, their like minigames. As a bonus, the ~20+ DLC's for the game make the challenges endless.

Suggestions if you buy the game.
- Play with a friend!
- Controller, ( not required but preferred )
- Start with the character: Apprentice
- Have fun!

Dungeon defenders is a fantastic game with loads of content (though much of it is through DLC). The game contains several classes each with its own niche and special powers and towers. And even when you have beat the regular campaign the game has a massive amount of endgame content.

After the 1,001st DLC, I have lost COMPLETE interest in this game. What was once kind of fun is now a Maxis wanna-be company that has split their game into too many parts and refuses to "pack" enough of it together to make it valuable. And that's what this game is not: valuable.

Dungeon Defenders is a quirky little game where, on top of being a tower defense, you also have to run around and shoot things. Ever played Sanctum 1 or 2? Then keep your money, bud, cause this is just a less fun version.

The basic premise is you four heroes in training must hold the line against invading waves of heroes while the real heroes are out gettin donuts or somethin. I didn't pay attention to that bit. So you build turrets and collect resources dropped from chests and enemies to build turrets or to upgrade your abilities and weapons. In the end we have an tower defense third person shooter with rpg elements. It's got a cute little cell shaded graphic style that I can't help but find appealing and honestly the actual mechanics of it all aren't half bad if you can excuse the fact that projectile attacks are virtually useless if not awkward as a 14 year old trying to talk about his sexual experiences in a positive light. Yeah I bet you got it good last night, Uncle Paul.

So why not reccomend it? BECAUSE IT'S BOOOOOOOOORING. Honestly, the game is so unbelievably slow paced. Everything is slow, the enemies are slow, the projectiles are slow, the turrets are slow, every attack is slow and boring and lame. I'd call it a childrens game, but Kameo: Elements of Power was a childrens game and on the hardest difficulty can at least keep you paying attention. You know what else is a childrens game? The Legend of Zelda. A game that isn't combat orriented still has far superior combat mechanics and faster paced gameplay then a game that boasts it.

On top of the slow game play, it's just plain awkward. Projectile attacks can hardly be called skill shots, since the move barely any faster than the enemies and you never run out of amunition. Only the mage and the knight are really worth anything because the knight can literally just stop an entire wave with two turrets and shell them with cannonballs that are basically 2 hit kills on large enemies. The monk supposedly has healing abilities but there's never any need because you have to actually try to die in this game.

Simply put, it's boring. It's cute, it's quirky, it's unique(kinda), but it's just too slow. It's upgrade system is just a massive min/maxfest and leaves so much to be desired.

Should you buy it?
Do you play EVE online? Yes? This game is gonna be too slow even for you.

Really weird controls, unintuitive gameplay (such as little to no ability to read your own skills in the middle of a game), the tutorial really doesn't give you a helping hand on getting into the game. The game dumps everything you ought to know on you right away, then lets you drown in it.

Really suggest the Orcs Must Die or Sanctum franchise instead.

Simply one of the best tower defense games I've ever played. I really like the fact that you can level up either your character, towers, or both...though you share points between the two categories so you'll need to consider what kind of character you'd like to be. Speaking of which, the game has four main characters plus plenty more via DLC (each of which has unique towers and abilities. If you enjoyed "Orcs Must Die" and "Sanctum", then this is a no-brainer.
