About This Content

The Portsmouth Direct Line Expansion Pack is a recreation of the 49-mile railway line between Woking and Portsmouth Harbour via Guildford. Based on the line as it appeared between 2000 and the present day, this expansion pack includes the Class 450 electric multiple unit (a very familiar sight on the line) and faithful representations of all 16 stations along the route. The Portsmouth Direct Line runs through busy urban centres, suburbs and rural areas as it makes its way from Woking in Surrey across the North and South Downs to the historic naval town of Portsmouth on the South Coast.

The line was first begun in 1845, at which time the steep gradients of the Downs between Guildford and Petersfield proved a struggle for steam traction. Journey times improved with the electrification of the line in 1937, and by the late 2000s the third-rail 750-volt DC line was served predominantly by Class 444 and Class 450 EMUs. The Class 450 EMU included with the Portsmouth Direct Line is closely modeled on the real Siemens-built Class 450 ‘Desiro’ units which entered service in 2003, and features accurate controls and sound effects, plus realistic details including matrix destination displays, independent left and right door controls and more.

Includes:

Class 450 'Desiro' electric multiple unit (EMU)

For a commuter trains junkie like myself, this route is a must, right after London-Brighton. Of course, in its basic state, with only Class 450 included, it's lifeless, but if you can grab the PDL Collection it becomes a nice commuter experience.

So yes, but only the whole PDL collection.

Route Pros:
Nice scenery...
Iterestingly enough, there are some grades on this line, that are steep enough to catch attention!
Quite a few level crossings (which i like)
Many scenarios
Performs EXTREMELY well for me.

Route Cons:
I can't find any!

Class 450 Pros:
Nice looking on the outside

Class 450 Cons:
The brakes are TERRIBLE
Cabview is (in my opinion) very badly modelled.
The horn is the SAME horn from the Class 455, the Class 360, AND the Class 380!

Should you buy this route? Ya, I guess you should, overall it is a pretty enjoyable drive!

It is good, it could of gone to Waterloo, Brighton, and Southampton, there should be a portal for all tracks at the Effingham Junction Turn off, some reason on part of the Hinchley Wood Branch there is no 3rd Rail, but people think there is a route limit.

I regret buying many DLC but this one is my biggest regret, I would review it in full but it actually just depresses me thinking about it ... Portsmouth Direct is a classic case of corporate greed trumping a designers vision ... not only that the asset that is bundled with the route (the 450) is the worsed asset ever developed by DTG, not fit for purpose on every level: sound, performance and funtionality, its utterly diabolical ...

Unfiished garbage stinking of a big fat lack of vision ... avoid like the plague.

I got this for the Easter Egg hunt on Facebook, lol. But yeah, even though I didn't buy it, it is still somewhat in a bad shape in my opinion. It is pretty bland, looks so un-alive, the scenery is weird, but probably just the place sucks in Real Life to be honest. There is a massive network of route that is on this map, but the problem is that at least 60% of the map is not mapped out properly and not used at all in any scenario at all. The trains have awful break distance and it's handling is just generally bad. Scenarios are there on this map, but it is not much to enjoy to be honest.

I give this map 4 out of 10. [Doesn't worth it unless cheap or free, lol.]

Altough it is old, there are thousands of workshop scenarios to try out. Definitely pick this on up in the UK Collection Bundle on a sale, which will save you soooo much money.

A little bit quick load if you load a scenario on this route but I have a main problem:
The Class 450 stops badly and somtimes you can derail or ran over a red signal.
