What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The reason Echo Nine will be distributed for Early Access is so that the players can get involved with the development process. Community input will be important to the development of Echo Nine. We want you to be able provide feedback that will directly affect the features and game-play elements you want to see.

We want Echo Nine to be the game that the players want it to be.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The Early Access period will end approximately 2nd or 3rd qtr of 2018 Echo Nine will then move into the beta phase with an intended release of Christmas 2018”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version will be the culmination of the development changes that occurred during the Early Access phase. It will include arcade and campaign game modes as well as expanded pickups, enemie types, and player ship attributes such as shields, health, repair, and weapon systems.

The full version will also include leader-boards and Steam Achievements.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current state of Early Access is a single game mode. The current game mode is called "Survivor" and includes multiple different enemies that evolve when the player's score increases. They get faster and begin to attack the player sooner.

The current mode also includes pickups that will increase the players score enough to gain the next upgrade. The play ship starts with a single fire and forget missile. The first upgrade comes at 5k score and doubles that to two missiles. The next upgrade (15k) progresses that to 3 missiles.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The game will be priced differently for Early Access. The Early Access price will be heavily discounted. The full version will most likely be 2 to 3 times the price of the Early Access version.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The community will be able to submit input directly to the developer by email or by Steam message. We will also be providing a forum for community discussion that can be used to contact the developer in the future.”

Update Nov 14, 2017

Tonight we posted a new build. In this build we're working on reducing the size of the code and eliminating problematic code that may have been causing the fatal crash issue.

The new build also optimizes a few minor physics characteristics of the ships and projectiles. Hopefully this will improve the feel of the collision detection.

Update Nov 11, 2017

In today's update we added a secondary fire mode. Right clicking the mouse will now launch a guided missile.

The new projectile will select a target and track it until the ship is either destroyed or the projectiles lifespan has expired.

When firing the secondary projectile the player ship will attempt to select a valid target. If a target is found the missile is fired. if no valid target is found in range the "No Target" sound will play.

We also added new color schemes top the enemy ships. This will expand the variety of enemies in a minor way. It's the first step in our plans to upgrade the enemies.

In the future we will be providing each enemy with a unique ability/weapon. Some will have special weapons, other will have access to shields and other tools.

There may be an additional update this weekend if time permits.

About This Game

Echo Nine is intended to be reminiscent of the old arcade classic space shooters like Galaga or Gaplus.

Pickups enhance the ship and its capabilities
  • Enemies ships evolve and become more difficult
  • Additional obstacles will be added as the game progresses
  • Levels will also add new and exciting events and game mechanics
  • The currently available game mode is called Survival. you get one life and your goal is to survive the round and score the most points possible.
Can you set the high score?

The current build is Windows only. There will be builds for Mac and Linux in the future. The development will be done on Windows and the alternate packages will come later.

Future updates will include new game modes including Arcade and Campaign modes.

In arcade mode you will play stage after stage, each getting tougher than the previous. How far you can make it depends on your skill and luck. Your ship upgrades stay with you into the next round and you only reset when you die. You will have a limited number of lives with the ability to earn more through in game pickups and score bonuses. When your last ship is destroyed your game is over.

Campaign mode offers you the ability to save your progress. You will be able to acquire, sell, and buy ship upgrades. Before each round you can equip your ship with the upgrades you have available to you in your inventory. You will unlock the ability to purchase an upgrade in the ship store when you collect that upgrade in a game round/level. If you die you lose the equipped upgrades so be careful not to risk too much. In this mode you will be able to retry each level until you complete it and there will be boss fights.

We hope you enjoy the game and we welcome your feedback.
