About This Game

Men of War: Assault Squad features a completely new cooperative skirmish game mode with access to five different nations (Russia, Germany, USA, Commonwealth and, for the first time ever in the Men of War series, Japan) as well as increased realism and accessibility.
Players can get behind the controls of a tank to smash through obstacles, crush soldiers under their tracks and fire high-explosive shells at enemy emplacements, they can even take control of individual soldiers as they fight. As in previous games in the series, Men of War: Assault Squad includes the unique "direct control" feature which enables players to be in command of any unit using the WASD controls, rather than pointing and clicking.

Key Features:

  • Different historical settings and battlegrounds for every nation presented in the game allowing players to face distinct varieties of enemies and tactics
  • Unique hero units with powerful abilities such as increasing units' firepower, boosting morale or providing other advantages to defeat the enemy against all odds
  • Bonuses featuring remote controlled bombs that can flatten entire residential blocks, airstrikes to destroy incoming tank columns, special "For the Motherland!" charge attacks and many more
  • Improved and dynamic AI ensures that no two missions in the game will play out the same way, making each battle a new experience against an AI that really fights back
  • A great choice of various locations including Western Europe to Eastern Europe, North Africa and the Pacific area

This is a highly amusing take on the RTS genre, ww2 style. I found it to be very amusing once I mastered the inventory system. Arming your sqaud with pilfered .50's they walk around with for the win.

Some people might disagree because of bugs and how bad this or that is, but hey there arent to many good WW2 rts games (Other than Company of Heroes 1 and 2) and there are other good ones but this is a very great one it is old and not as good looking but it has tons of content and a very, very good modding community im betting the multiplayer if still up would be filled with people. Now then lets go to pros and cons

Pros-
A lot of content
Great Editor
Great Multi and Singleplayer campaign
Realistic physics (sometimes buggy though)
Great Modding community

Cons
Multiplayer closed (have to use third party to play)
buggy
Not so pretty Graphics
No basebuilding (just me though)

And i would recommend Men of War Assault Squad to those that are fans of the series and or rts games such as Company of Heroes or War game Series

Basic Information
  • Title: Men of War: Assault Squad
  • Genres: Strategy
  • Developer: Digitalmindsoft
  • Publisher: 1C Company & 1C-SoftClub
  • Release Date: The 25th of February, 2011

General Impression
Men of War: Assault Squad is a nice strategy game. The graphics are nice, everything looks more realistic, compared to the older Men of War games, and also the textures have been improved. The atmosphere mostly happens in open fields, villages, cities, forests, and even other environments. The audio is pretty nice. I like the sound of the guns, tanks, etc. The music is nice, the ambient music turns into combat music well-synchronized, and it’s overall sounding nice. It sounds less patriotic than the older Men of War titles, but I guess times have changed. The voice acting is also pretty nice. The gameplay is complex, in each mission you have to accomplish some tasks, alike killing certain enemies, cleaning fields off enemies, destroying some units, reaching a point, capturing a point, holding off certain positions, etc. The story focuses on the Soviet, German, Allied and Japan forces during World War 2. The game has 6 campaign, the 6th one of them being the bonus missions. What I don’t like about the missions: they are repetitive. Most of the missions have the same tasks, just different enemies and environments. For some gamers, the missions will get boring after a while. For me, they didn’t get repetitive too much. But, in other reviews, many people have complained about the repetitive missions. The cut scenes of the missions are also pretty nice. The user interface is well-optimized, with no bugs and well-synthetized information. I also like the overall design of it. The controls are pretty good, except with 1 thing: the rotations’ controls of the cameras. I highly recommend you to reset them with the arrow buttons. The engines, just like in every Men of War game, are not perfect. The game has rarely crashes, and when it crashes, you obviously lose the progress of your mission. Try and save the game as often as you can, in order to avoid too much progress lose. You don't want to waste your time by restarting the mission from zero, right? The mechanics are sophisticated, being pretty nice and everything moves well-optimized. Now, I’m going to talk a little about the G.E.M. editor. Just like in every Men of War game, you have a G.E.M. editor. You can create your own battles in it. It is complex and with a various number of functions. This game has brought it more forces from the Earth, more units per each country and overall you will have more diversified fun. Overall, this game is a nice strategy game which simulates the battles of the Soviet, German, Allied and Japan forces during World War 2.

Positive Points
  • Nice and well-designed graphics and textures
  • Pretty nice audio and nice music
  • Fun and challenging gameplay
  • Many missions throughout the 6 campaigns available
  • Infantry, heavy guns, batteries, cannons, vehicles, tanks, airplanes, and many other units available
  • 4 difficulties available (the heroic difficulty is new into the Men of War series)
  • A pretty nice designed user interface, and some well-designed cut scenes
  • Some pretty stable engines
  • Some pretty nice mechanics

Neutral Points
  • Trading cards would be a nice feature
  • The heroic difficulty should be easier, it is almost unplayable

Negative Points
  • The new types of missions are repetitive
  • The multiplayer is not alive anymore
  • There are some rare crashes, like in all the Men of War games

Best WWII and RTS game I've ever bought...
If the skirmish "campaign" is too hard, try the editor. Endless fun!

Best war game ever made. I bought Men of War: Assault Squad because I absolutely enjoyed the orignial. I though, I oughta try out the next game. I started the skirmish and had to terrorize a Japanese village filled with well... Japanese troops. Passed my first attempt, tired more skirmishes with the cool feature of playing multiple counties (now inclusing Japan!) but I saw the editor and gave it a go.

Thats when the game stole my wallet.

Im here a few days from now, enjoying the fact I bought MoW:AS.

Conclusion
11/10 Would Skirmish again.

This is a gem that runs on GEM, a must have for any friends who likes RTS and WWII!

Men of War Assault Squad is the best WW2 real-time tactics game! I've been following this game series ever since the original 'Soldiers Heroes of WW2'. When I tried the demo back then, and realized that you can take the shells out of your broken tank to load a stolen anti-tank gun, and you can scavenge the fallen bodies for weapons and ammunition, and you can take cover behind virtually everything, and you can drive tanks through buldings, I was immediately sold.

This amazing level of detail and authenticity is still present today, and it brings an immense level of control and different tactics that you can use. That comes at the expense of very much micromanagement and almost every key on the keyboard being assigned to some action. That makes it hard for newcomers to pick up, but once you memorized everything, you're going to have a blast.

The multiplayer component is a bit shaky, because it uses an old GameSpy service. That's why I have very high hopes for the upcoming Assault Squad 2, which promises to have full Steam MP integration. The developers have been listening to the community a lot and have published several free updates with lots of new content, so I trust them on this one.
