This game makes you learn how to time your every action precisely, and the game just has a really awesome theme in general.

My only complaint is that the game is kinda short, but with the difficulty that shouldnt be a problem if you are new, even to the most hardcore gamer.

If you are into retro styled games and you love challenging games, this is the game for you.

Must buy.

All the Anger! All the Rage! Makes this one of the best 2D games, the sounds made when jumping and sliding make the levels into a tune to remember, I reckon once you've learnt these tunes you can do it blindfolded.

Recommend for MLG 2D Gamers.

As the name implies BIT.TRIP RUNNER belongs to the genre runner.
Your task: run forward, collect gold and powerups, but dodge the various obstacles of living and nonliving genesis.
BIT.TRIP RUNNER is in 8-bit retro style game. This graphics may cause dizziness and even epilepsy.
BIT.TRIP RUNNER has hardcore gameplay - stuck in any obstacle you come back to the beginning of the level.
Highly recommend to use a gamepad for playing, as well as stock up soothing. :)
For support gamepad you need to purchase additional software, example Pinnacle Game Profiler or Xpadder.

Как понятно из названия BIT.TRIP RUNNER относится к жанру runner.
Ваша задача: бежать вперед, собирать золото и поверапы, да уворачиваться от различных препятствий живого и неживого генеза.
BIT.TRIP RUNNER выполнен в 8-битном ретро стиле. Такая графика может вызвать головокружение и даже приступы эпилепсии.
BIT.TRIP RUNNER
Xpadder.

It's a hard running game. Also artistically beautiful.
I'm struggling to finish the last stages, it makes me angry sometimes but I'll always come back to try again.

Tough side scrolling game. I'd call it a platformer, but when the screen continuously scrolls without you controlling it, it makes it rough to qualify it as a platformer, though it obviously resembles one. Some call it a rythmn game, and while it does utilize a rythmn of sorts, I found that it was just easy to play this game with the sound turned off as it was easy when the sound was on. Easy, isn't the correct word to describe this though, this game is incredibly difficult at times. The idea is to jump, block, slide, or kick your way through each level. If you die anywhere in the level you start all over. This makes it difficult on the long levels. The graphics work for the type of game that it is, though they will not attract many newcomers without the gamer feeling nostalgia for the retro graphics. This is a good game, just know that you may either smash your keyboard or lose some hair with the frustration that it can bring.

The game's timing is far too dang strict for not including any checkpoints whatsoever.

It is very fun, and very unique. However, it is far more frustrating than it is either of those.

Give it a pass unless you can get it for under a buck.

♥♥♥♥. This. Game.

Don't let the splendid retro looking graphics or the actual nice soundtrack fool you. This game has "♥♥♥♥ you" written all over it when you start playing it. It demands precision perfection and that ultimately may turn off a lot of people from this game. I originally wrote a review when only I've played about 7 levels of this game. Now, I'm up to 3-11 in the 3rd world and I can't stress enough how much of a pain in the ♥♥♥ it is.

I'm too emotionally drained from completing this piece of ♥♥♥♥ and you would be too if you had to do certain parts of a level. Over and over and over and over again. Just to be yanked back because, oh, you mis-stepped a ledge, oh, this hurling thing coming at you too fast, oh, how it gets difficult tracking everything coming at once and the camera just shifting up and down. Talk about trial and error with this game.

It has everything else going for it but that's all just for bells and whistles. Gameplay wise, again, it's all "♥♥♥♥ you". If you are not good at any rhythm based games, then I'd have to take a serious pass on this one. Don't say you weren't warned.

UPDATE: I finally did beat the game about 3 months ago after much much trial and error. All that stress for a little cutscene? Ugh and it's only part of the overall story. I still don't recommend if you're just not good at rhythm games.

I've read many reviews about people comparing this game with its sequel, and basing this comparison to basically not recommending it.

I'm in the point that I can comprehend both visions. Indeed, this game is unfair, the hitbox is confusing until the end, the lack of checkpoints makes it hardcore, it's more based on memory than reflexes, and as a rhythm game, it's basically a failure. Runner 2 fixes all that stuff, so it's logic that many people around here suggest you should avoid this game.

BUT.

I must remind you all that Runner 2 is actually the odd member of the family. Apart from it, ALL Bit.Trip games are this mercyless, and even more (in fact, the Runner games are the easiest ones from the franchise IMO). So Bit.Trip Runner is just another game similar to all those from the same company. It's not fair at all to compare it with a game that has very few in common if you look coldly.

Personally, the Runner's games are the only ones from this franchise that I enjoyed. And if you have to choose one of them, it's just a matter of interests: if you wanna beat a real challenge and prove yourself you can face a hard game, try Runner 1; if you want to enjoy those kind of arcade games where you main purpose is avoiding things without getting frustrated, try Runner 2. I suggest playing both though.

In conclusion, you'll read many positive and negative reviews, and all of them will be true. This game is simply not made for everybody, only for people who enjoys challenges from videogames, while its sequel is suitable for everybody.

too punishing rather than fun.

no checkpoint, no sign of "i'm goona kill ya".

after running for about 2 minutes in a single stage, new pattern appear! guess what, i need to replay whole stage.

... yha, i got struck at that single stage for hours.

AND WHAT THE HECK ARE THOSE SPLASHING EFFECT THATS BLUR THE ENTIRE SCREEN AT ONCE!!!

sum: just go for bit.trip 2 and leaves this ancient game untouch.

I don't use swear words, but when I do, it's because of Odyssey level.

And then the boss level has the whackiest hitboxes. I kicked the purple thing, but I'm still hit by it? Really?

Why do I not recommend? Unlike Runner2, this game is not even close to enjoyable. A lot of the difficulty lies in two things:
-being able to successively repeat measures
-rote memorization (especially for the first boss, as it's near impossible to "just react.")

In fact, I could think about other things, like my life and what better things I could be doing with my time while I go through the 30th try through Odyssey because all it contains is the same set of manuevers repeated 4 times over...

What do I recommend? Get Runner2 - way more enjoyable, much more variety, and the ability to actually react to what's next, rather than attempting to memorize the level...

The graphics are simplistic, the music is annoying after a while, and the gameplay requires you to practice a level until your muscle memory memorized it completely. The game is like Mario without the need/possibility for directions. If this is your thing, go for it! But I'll stay well clear.

An awful mash up of music games and platformers. At best its a button pushing simulator, at worst its a form of psychological torture. This game forces you to clear your mind and focus on the mind numbing boredom of their terrible music, timing your jumps with vauge visual cues from the distances of things. If you're looking for a music based runner, play melody's escape it's everything you want and more. If you're looking for a hard platformer, try super meat boy. But this piece of ♥♥♥♥ isn't even a good difficult It's just punishing. You have to go through ridiculously long easy sections between the hard. While in super meatboy you're at the difficult sections again near instantly.
