Acerca deste jogo

The critically acclaimed adventure of Uru: Ages Beyond Myst returns with this special collection that contains more Uru than ever before. Already the deepest Myst adventure to date, Uru is significantly expanded with the addition of To D'ni™ and The Path of the Shell, expansion packs that will take Uru beyond your imagination.

  • Uru: Immerse yourself in a story that features the discovery of the lost D'ni civilization. Follow Yeesha, eccentric daughter of Atrus, to discover Lining Books, encounter descendants, and solve puzzles as you adventure through surreal 3D worlds beyond your imagination.
  • To D'ni: The first Uru expansion pack lets the player visit various parts of the D'ni cavern. Myst fans will be astounded by the amount of historical and cultural information included in this expansion, and those new to the greatest adventure game of all time will be driven by the expansion story's major dramatic question: "What happened to the DRC and its Restoration?" Through a series of challenges that send the player searching the island of Ae'gura and two D'ni neighborhoods, the player accesses three sections of the D'ni Great Zero.
  • The Path of the Shell: The second Uru expansion pack. The second expansion pack for Uru takes the player on a journey to uncover Yeesha's destiny. In Uru, the player learns about D'ni's past. In Uru: To D'ni, the player learns about D'ni's present - the failed Restoration by the DRC. In Uru: The Path of the Shell, the player learns about D'ni's future.

The epitome of tedium and busywork. Empty, lifeless, drab. So why am I recommending it? Because it's obviously not for me, it's for people who enjoyed the Myst games. If you're on this page it's very likely you know exactly what you're in for, are more than okay with that, and will have a good time. I just don't have the autism required to clunkily run around, playing with books.

I've played through all of Cyans Myst series and this was the last one I came to. Myst and Riven were far and above my favorites, maybe due to nostalgia, but after playing through URU, this one get the top spot for me.

One thing to note is that this version is full of glitches that would probably be game breaking to someone who doesn't buy into the slow paced exploration type games. I had to re-set ages multiple times and there's a couple of spots where you'll fall through the floor or get stuck on a ladder. It turns into a chore to get past these areas and will definately not help in making any new fans.

But, all that being said this game is extremely well thought out and crafted (aside from the above mentioned glitches). The worlds feel large and organic, and I was totally immersed for the vast majority of the game play. It's a must play for anyone that's a fan of Cyan, or any other puzzle exploration style games. One of my new favorite games I've played. 10/10

An old game, but in my eyes a very underrated one.
I realy enjoy the flair of this Gamesettings
the idea to bring the world to life.
After you have finished the game there are 2 more dlc contends who brought mor books and areas.
Its a shame that the online version never realy happened.
Graphicly its realy nice done.
The first hour is a bit frustrating- After that(the dessert the game gets realy enjoyable.
I had a lot of fun. Its not that great as the main Myst parts were, but thats mostly caused by
the fakt they used ingame graphic with lousy low polygons and no acters anymore, the story is pretty complex.
The world design itself and the textures are still pretty even today- well most of them.
And you can play it on ultra too today what was nearly impossible for the most of Pcs when
its was released.

You have 4 ages mainly an own island to create and a not so important character builder.
The rest of the books in your libary are coming later and than there are the 2 expansions.

The contras- not very well done are the controls. Actualy you can move in first person perspective or
3rd person perspective with F1. You walk with right mosue button forward etc. But if you want to climp up somewere (this was a problem even by its release date) you are stucked for a moment and have to decide if you want to move up or down, that doesn´t work proper.
The game gets better in the end and climax with a not that perfect ending.
But anyway. I truly think Uru is a great game and its my favorite game with Myst1-3
4 was way different and great too.
the 5th was the lazyest and absolute bad at the very end. This here was official No6, but released before part 5.
I know some people who dont like it, but i think it was challenging and well designed and written.

For its time perhaps this was an interesting game, tho I don't even remember it being advertised... I certainly love the first two myst titles and was quite willing to depart from the myst formula a bit to try 3rd person modern blending etc. but:
a) the controls are insane and jumping around just doesn't work, so you get insanely frustrated
b) the whole thing seems like a big WoW fetch-quest with no xp reward... you're finding these 7 cloth banners in every area and I don't feel like playing where's waldo the video game.
c) the game is pretty much a walking simulator: it doesn't feel urgent in any way and while the visuals are interesting even by today's standards, it often seems like there's no purpose in anything your doing
d) related to the last point, the story in myst and riven really created a sense of urgency without overly stressing you out... you wanted to discover more about the mystery. Well, the writing I saw was mysterious enough all right, but more on the insanity level... there weren't many understandable characters or w/e, tho I did like yeesha the one time I met her.
e) environments seem incredibly empty, and arguably quite boring... few things are actually interactive and this seems quite odd coming from Cyan.
f) I went to an age that listed "visitors" and the last person to visit that age apparently was in 2004, unless I'm misunderstanding things...

So, despite some interesting ideas and visuals that looked like they might be interesting, I largely judge this title irrelevant by today's standards, since I'm incredibly bored after 4 hours of not knowing what the ♥♥♥♥ I'm doing or why I should care about it. Very dissapointing since, as I said, I rather love Myst and Riven... don't buy unless you like dissapointment or have some godly level of patience and a masochistic streak to your gaming life... ugh :(

The game still looks ok, but it always had a clunky, awkward, badly designed interface. when you first start, there is no way to quit untill you progress to a certain point. Need to alt-tab to quit game untill you solve enough puzzles to get you into Dunny to get the item you need for the main interface. Camera is jerky to point of annoyance. The main point of the game was the original online experience. Without it, it feels like playing a MMORG solo on an empty server.
Lastly, this game is free from mystonline.com I wish I'd known that before I paid for this.

Awesome game. I played this back in its release year. I'm not sure if that was a good choice though, because of my age at the time, I looked at a bunch of walkthroughs, and therefore spoiled a bunch. :P
Regardless, even after being 10 (11 for non-expansion) years old. This is still by far one of my top 5 favourite games of all time!
The reason I don't have many play hours is because... well, I've played it a hundred times over before it even came to Steam. :P

This game has many many abstract worlds, mind boggling puzzles, a very unique style of gameplay, and so much more!

Despite Cyan still updating the Uru: Live (free online!) version of it, I'd really like to see a new game similar to this with improved physics, graphics and such. They did attempt to change physics before with the current game, but well... to many things broke for them to keep it, and despite being so old, the grahpics are still very good for its time, and it is almost gaureteed to not even lag on newer systems that are crap!

Anyhow, that's besides the point. If you love adventure-puzzle games, you should really check this game out!

Pros:
Seeing the cleft where Atrus grew up was awesome. I nearly cried for joy.

Cons:
Controls were awful. I finally gave up trying to do anything.
They are the WORST controls I've seen on a game. EVER.

You're better off playing "Uru Live" online. It's FREE. It was what was originally intended for the Uru single-player version. It goes more in depth and has added features.

I loved and played the original MYST and Riven, and I had lukewarm feelings about the 'outsourced' Myst III:Exile and Myst IV:Revelation, though they improved a lot on the audio and music (Sorry Robyn Miller, you are a great guy but no professional composer).
URU takes place approx 200 years after, and you immediately see nostalgia with smashed pieces from the ending of Riven lying around. Nice :D

URU: Complete Chronicles, how to begin?

Well:

Did you play/like Myst or any of its sequels?

Did you feel like a genius when you finally solved a puzzle?

Did you beat it without using a guide?

Don't worry if you didn't play all or even most of them, as URU only has small shout outs to these games. However, you should be at least familiar with how these games work.

To answer the questions:

No, you don't need to have played or liked the other games but if you haven't at least played them, or remotely liked them, then this game is not for you.

If you felt like a genius when you finally solved a puzzle by yourself then you will feel like the most intelligent person ever when, or more likely if, you solve even ONE of the puzzles contained in this game without a guide, especially if you can solve the final ones without any hints what-so-ever.

The puzzles in this game range from mind-screws and mind numbingly difficult to fourth dimensional radical geometry, in that some of the answers seem to come from nowhere. Each book (Books represent different levels) is a self contained world with its own puzzles and is not connected to other books (at least the base game), so there is no jumping from book to book, but you may have to jump out and back in to advance to different areas within the book. Some of the puzzles are quite interesting once you realize what they are actually about. The expansion levels and their puzzles become almost impossible, as if it were designed for multiple people to play at once to solve them (which it was but doesn't have, at least on Steam) but it can still be solved by one person.

Solving the final puzzle will feel like a test of endurance and strength more than intelligence.

So, would I recommend this game?

Yes.

As much as I disliked figuring some of the puzzles out without any assistance, I can say that I did not dislike the game. I even sort of liked the original levels, once I understood them that is. There were times I was amazed at the level design or when a puzzle was solved and its solution displayed.

The levels were beautifully designed. Once the story behind a level became known, the design of the level became more interesting.

The game URU is about discovering the history of the lost civilization of the D'ni. (The past)

The expansion To D'ni is about the remains of the civilization. (The present)

The final expansion, Path of the Shell, is about a future that will never be.

tl;dr head bashing puzzles, interesting levels, missing multiplayer portion, decent game.

URU. You are you.

This should have been given a proper chance as an online game. No violence, just puzzles and community.

Alas, it wasn't to be, and we were given this instead. Beautifully made and wonderfully told, it's a worthy addition to the Myst series.

But it could've been so much more if Cyan Worlds had been given the chance.

For a myst game I was expecting a lot better. I'm not going to say much in this review, but; you can play the game for free on its site. Its visuals still have that amazing myst charm but it's clear from the start that this was designed to be a multiplayer game. You'll find yourself walking through large open spaces that don't contain puzzles which can be a bore even though they are quite a pleasure to look at. I don't think I mentioned that this game isn't the standard "on-rail point & click" adventure that myst was. URU isn't pronounced as a word. It is pronounced "You are you" in the sense that you don't control the standard myst protaganist who has been given the alias, "the stranger" on his voyage across the uncharted D'ni landscape. Instead you are given an avatar that you design with standard and "Cyan worlds themed" clothing. You play in third person with first as an option. I won't give you much to the story if you actually plan to play this, as it is in itself a "Myst game" but the premise is; you go to New Mexico because Obama told you to or something and you find this guy in an rv who tells you to find the clues. Thats it. You are then sent out finding linking books solving some-what clever puzzles; finding more clothing crap for your avatar. I did find the game quite entertaining however as a third person adventure game. Imagine Zelda without enemies, items, or dungeons. This game makes a nice extension of the D'ni's world and a nice item for myst fans to have in their collection but otherwise, play Myst or Riven instead.

P.s. The game takes place hundreds of years after the strangers adventures in Myst and Riven. SPOILERS: There is a D'ni renovation project going on in the game where the npcs (which you never see) are rebuilding gateways and fixing books. By this I mean; the D'ni perished a long time ago; you won't be finding any new or familiar friends on your lonely trek around pre-discovered locations in the Myst universe. The only signs of life are holograms and cave paintings. Once again; clearly a multiplayer project.

P.p.s. There are no multiplayer features in the game.

What this game lacks in death and action, it more than makes up for in story and endlessly beautiful and original worlds.
This game is mostly seperate from the Myst storyline allowing anyone to play. It's the first game that really uses Linking as a puzzle mechanic and it opens up a world of lore on the D'ni.
